If Habs are confident that Zegras can work on his flaws like a Nylander, then yeah they will probably trade for him. That being said soft, perimeter, and weak players rarely turn it around completely.

zegras just makes perfect sense..
age range, offensive talent, coached by St Louis and best friends with cole..he will be a hab by game 1 next year
I still would rather target a guy like Holtz. He has a blistering shot and we have guys that deliver slick passes. Oates meet Hull, Hull... Oates. And no, I'm saying we have an Oates or that Holtz is a Brett Hull.

The first line stays as is, Dach gets Holtz and Newhook or Roy for next year. (Probably Newhook as Roy and Holtz are both RW)

Can;t wait for Gallagher's return tomorrow. It will be something to behold.

It's ridiculous that you can't give him even even for free. What about other leagues? Can he be traded to other leagues?
He should be nailed to the fourth line and left there to rot until he gets so pissed off with with five minutes of ice time per game that he rage quits, demands a trade, or tries to fight somebody that knocks him on to Robidas Island.

Hence why I said rarely. Kucherov is a beast. He's probably the most talented guy in the league, Zegras isn't close to that.
One is 31 the other is 22…. Zegras’ ELC stats are similar to Kucherov’s without the luxury of having anywhere near the same supporting cast, let alone prime Stamkos

Not insinuating Zegras will end up having the same level of impact, just that MSL / Hughes are well positioned to know if such COULD potentially be the case

Some players do mature over time & grow ..

Kucherov was never any of these things. He's a fierce competitor,
Kucherov dropped to 2nd round because of Russian factor + doubt about his ability to adjust to NHL physicality

Even after establishing himself in NHL there were lots of questions if he could adjust to playoff intensity hockey - recall headhunting stick swinging match penalty vs Josh Anderson in playoffs vs CBJ when Torts had Anderson double shifting to physically abuse Kucherov because they felt Kucherov would be thrown off his game if physically targeted… Torts was right & Kucherov cost TBay the series

Kucherov of TBay Cup winners in 20 & 21 & today is not the same player of 2013-2019 (ages 21-27) … which is the point of this debate, personal growth happens

I recall him being an absolute beast in his first full ever playoffs. And his second. And his third. He was younger than Zegras is now in his first playoffs btw, unless you want to count those two games the year before. Hes always been a big game player. He was drafted in the second round at a time when top 5 Russian picks were falling in the teens and twenties. He was in the MHL and listed at 5'10". All of this doesn't change the fact he was outscoring Stamkov in his first full year during a cup run. Had the lightning won, he would have been a Conn Smythe candidate, at 21-22. You don't perform like that before you're 25, multiple times, without being a hell of a competitor.

That’s interesting since his first playoff was being swept 4-0 vs Habs in 2014 and he was quite the giveaway machine playing on the 3rd line

With Hutson, Reinbacher and Mailloux close to being ready.

We gonna have a decision to take and its gonna be obviously between Struble and Xhekaj. (Matheson, Guhle, Hutson and Mailloux, Reinbacher as RD i think are the obvious keeper.) Its a tough call honestly.

I would do everything possible with our 1st RD pick this year, WPG pick, Struble (or Xhekaj), could also add Beck/Mesar to secure Cayden Lindstrom or acquire Quinton Byfield in LA since they are going in the gutter.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Roy - Dach - Lindstrom/Byfield

Thats a massive, massive top 6.

8OV + Struble + WPG picks is a steep price but it might be the king of overpayment for us to take the next step.
The only player I am super high on in this draft is demidov. If we land #7-8 I'd be willing to trade up to make sure we get him.

If that's not an option I'd still trade the pick for firepower upfront (no idea who tho)

Everybody has their own definition for full in this context I suppose, odd that yours is 2 games when even a single playoff series is at minimum 4...

Regardless, Kucherov might never have been out there throwing hits or working super hard in the corners, but he's always been a competitor. I'll reserve judgement if Hughes trades for him, but I highly doubt he becomes a legitimate competitor, which is likely Verbeek's assessment as well.

Trading for Zegras is going to cost us our first this year as a start. I am preparing myself for this. Most expect us to trade the Winnipeg first, but we may keep it to draft third line support talent instead.
