If Zegras is such a garbage player and highly paid to boot why would he cost Mailloux+1st?

What are the chances of prying Isaac Howard from Tampa for a defenseman + with Sergachev out?
I think Bolts know they won't go far anyways if they make the playoffs so why bother wasting assets. They got one of the worst prospect pools in the league.

No because he's not the profile of any player they've targeted. It's pretty clear what they value if you look at their draft record, their trade history, and who they have been linked to.
Who have we been rumoured to be linked too?

Habs fans are apparently allergic to talented players until they see them play. Can’t blame them, last highly skilled forward we had was Kovalev, and we all know he was a defensive beast!
Nah, it's just exactly the same as the Dubois situation. Heavily flawed player that will likely be a net negative while on the ice, and off it too, that many of us do not want anywhere near the team. It's another 60 point soft player, although I'll grant that Zegras does have more untapped potential than Dubois did.

Would rather keep piling the assets for a bigger trade, whomever that target might be. A target that has a good chance of being a better player than Suzuki, not one that'll just be a talented winger for him.

Probably slim to none. They might be losing Stamkos next summer so trading a soon to be 20 years old good prospect would be counter productive. With Sergachev likely out for the year they should just forget the cup and move on.

So far he was on the winning team at the WJC and crap teams on Anaheim. How do we know he isn't willing to put in the work to win?

They were in on PLD. They drafted Slafkovsky. They targeted Dach. Newhook isn't big but he plays an inside game. They were completely off on Michkov. They passed on guys like Tolvanen on waivers.

Because he hasn't and Anaheim has been wanting to get rid of him since they brought Verbeek on board. He was terrible this year and the question among every front office is whether he's a guy you can win with and the Ducks didn;t do a whole lot of winning with him in premium positions on the team.

I think we have the same idea about what KH is doing/building.
But there's also that mathematical side of it where asset management is also part of KH decision making.

Doubt the asking price would make sense but if it does, we never know.
But like you, I don't think he fits in what KH is building so far.

All off-season Verbeek was nickel and diming Zegras which was evident they didn't think he's a long-term part of their plans and was likely available.

If Hughes had interest in Zegras, he likely doesn't make the Newhook trade and uses those assets as part of a package to get Zegras instead.

Wow, Mantha scoring at a 28 goals per 82 games this season.

Newhook has speed and character. But he plays small. So I interpreted the Newhook acquisition as a sign that they'll bring in a variety of players if they think they're good and available, not just big ones.

He's a UFA at year-end so he's making sure to try now so he can get paid this off-season.

Such a waste of talent given he has all the tools and size to be a star.

LeBrun being interviewed on BPM right now.

Saying that Habs are not calling teams about Matheson and Savard. However, doesn’t mean they won’t be traded.

He used the example of Lehkonen who also wasn’t on the market. But then, Sakic called Hughes for 17 consecutive days and his early “nos” turned into a yes.

Savard at 3.5M, with playoff experience and an extra contract year is in a different place than Tanev as he’s not merely a rental player. One thing is certain, based on all the contacts LeBrun has made with other GMs, Savard’s name has never been pitched by the Habs.

This is nothing more than another instance where WTK posts like he has HuGo on speed dial.

Why is it so obvious? Because he's not here yet? These type of trades take a while.

I have no idea if they go for him but I have no idea how anyone can be so sure that they don't like him at all.

Haven't heard anything about Verbeek wanting to get rid of him until recently.

But were the other GM's asking about him?
