That three goalies' carousel is the worst thing that HuGo could go with. Primeau should had been put on waivers right after the Camp. 75% chances he would not had been taken, and he would have started in Laval.

Hughes took an intelligent risk.

It turned out that several GMs are cheap, and would rather go into the playoffs with bad goaltending than give up a 2nd for Allen.

Lol. Tampa hasn't got much to give up. Lightning have heavily mortgaged their future. Their farm system is one of worst in league and no top pick until 2026.
With their declining trajectory, 2026 sounds like very interesting option :) It might turn out as lottery pick.

Yep. Another good reason to aim at that pick to be honest. We already have extra one in 2024 and most probably in 2025 (Calgary's).

Would Zegras score more goals with him? that is the bottom line

Yet, everyone says Zegras is not a complete player, but is CC a 2 way forward?
need goals
I mean, if they have chemistry and produce 3 goals, but give up 4, or 5 that's not good.

Habs would need a Marian Hossa type winger for them.

Can someone explain to me how retention works?

Does it apply to future seasons as well?

For example, if we retain 50% on Allen, does that mean the acquiring team’s cap hit is only 50% for the remaining salary this year and 50% of next year’s full salary ?

The Zegras hate is just crazy if you ask me personally. KH should be all over him if he was made available

Much like with Dubois, not everybody is against it because of "hate", but because of cost. And Zegras will likely cost more than Dubois did.

I'm actually not against it depending on who Montreal takes/who is available at the draft, but lets not pretend that there isn't a significant amount of risk in pursuing Zegras.

There has been no material downside to going with 3 goalies and Primeau definitely would have been claimed right after camp.

in my home
what goal scoring? He’s got 4 this year. His career high is 23. Caufield had 26 last year in 46 games. Zegras had 23 in 81. You guys make Zegras sound like he’s Mats Naslund or something.
and ones want Kakko?
its how much the ducks want or they may not even want to trade him

to get a 30-40 goal man will cost way more that a guy like Zegras. my thoughts

It does, a buyout counts too see OEL. You can't retain for only 1 season. It's for duration of contract.

Montreal needs size and goal scoring so there might be better options out there this summer someone like Timo Meier having a bad season put a proven scorer.

Not sure the Devils move him after just 1 full season. Personally Zegras is younger and will be cheaper, knows a couple of the players and I think it makes more sense to go after him

Thanks so what iexactly is the issue to trade Allen and retain 50%?

The acquiring team will have a very good backup for next year as well at 2 million.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me
