At this point, wouldn’t it just make more sense for the Oilers to trade away non Mcdavid or Draisaitl offensive pieces to fill out other holes?

I mean Hyman has been great, but I’m sure they could get some good young goalie or dman for him if he was made available.

Same for RNH or Kane.

In other words, lose some offense but get back multiple assets to fill other areas of need

This in a nutshell is why the Oilers have been garbage for the past 15 years.

Their drafting has been worse than ours, which is saying a lot.

Every one of their picks outside of their 1-1 has amounted to nothing
They can't move RNH because he's the only other center they can use if one of the two goes down. I guess moving out either of the winger could be a possibility but they can't be worth all that much with the term they have. Who even needs wingers like that ? Who has 5 millions of free space to take them on ? The only team I can think of that could use either of those is Pittsburgh, and I don't see how they can spare any defensive player, theyre already very thin.

I guess a three way deal could work.

Pittsburgh:
Hyman

Edmonton:
Andersson/Hanifin

Calgary:
Edmontons 1st
Pittsburghs 2nd
Pittsburgh 3rd in 2025
Broz
Xavier Bourgeault
Jeff Carter

A smaller deal could probbaly be made for Tanev instead too, but then the balance doesn't work because I think Hyman is worth more.

This sounds good in theory but they have zero depth scoring. Zero. Here are the goals scored by forwards:

Hyman - 10
Kane - 8
Mcdavid - 6
Draisaitl - 6
RNH - 3
Derek Ryan - 3
Sam Gagner - 2

You take out Hyman or Kane and wow that's a team with zero scoring depth, basically one line.

They can't afford to lose anybody. Best decision they could do is trade Draisaitl for a huge package of pieces. But that would take balls.
Even that is only 8 millions and they would need pretty immediate help, no next year player, this means youre either picking from a contender, or you're picking from a team that's not competing, which makes no sense for the team or Drai.

I can see MTL helping broker a deal for EDM, but just not sold one of the 3 goalies from the habs is the final outcome for edm

To not be sold, one would have to know who else is available, what the asking might be and how advanced talks may have been, if any.

I see Holland as a tepid dealer who either does not want to overspend and/or who is handcuffed on account of being a sitting duck GM. Everyone is out to bleed EDM but the Habs may be able to get a deal done if their asking is not as exaggerated as others.

Hughes has prevailed in these kinds of multiple suitor contexts before and he happens to own easily disposable assets. He usually has a good read of the market so he’s not out of the game just yet.

Maybe someone here can shed some light:

Since the cap was introduced how many trades of any significance ever happen outside 4-6 week trade deadline window? “Early deadline deals” usually kick off in mid-late Jan…

I’m sure there’s been 1 or 2 but can’t think of any in Nov / Dec to be honest.

They are rare. Looking at the November/december time frame

Nov 2021 _ Eichel trade to Vegas happened in November but more a offseason move- just no urgency to do it in offseason as Eichel was on IR

Jan 23 2021 PLD for Patrick laine. but that season only started in january so again almost an offseason move

Dec 2019 NJD trade Taylor hall to arizona for picks and prospects

Nov 2018 oilers trade Ryan strome for Ryan spooner, Kings trade Person for Haglin

Nov 2017. The Duchene to Ottawa trade

Jan 6th 2016 the Seth jones for Ryan Johanson deal

There seems to be one big name a year moved in November

So whats Edmonton waiting for to get a goalie? If i was an oiler fan id be losing my :bruins!

There's no poop emoji so i had to use the next best thing
No one will line up to help them, I bet there are several GMs lined up to take advantage of them so its a hard choice to make for them right now

Maybe substitute Evan Bouchard for Hyman.

Holland has to do something soon or he will be fired next .He doesn't have a choice. The longer he waits the worse things get.Soon they will have no chance of even making the playoffs let alone contend.

Holland no longer runs anything. McDavid has his people all over this management team.

Oilers are looking at internal options at the goalie position including bringing Campbell back up.

What a shit show that is. If I owned this team I would fire Holland on the spot.
Friggin’ cheap ass clowns.

Meantime, Dreger was dreaming up a blockbuster trade the other day that may have been discussed with the Habs (or not, cause it’s Dreger).

Wouldn’t be surprised if this were a directive from ownership who is just as clueless.

Just his theory but.......
Dreger revealed that the two general managers are in frequent communication at the moment.

He added that regarding a trade involving goaltender Jack Campbell 's big contract , Dreger stressed that he would be surprised if discussions had not taken place between the two teams.

He also clarified that the Oilers had considered offloading Campbell's contract, but that doing so required at least a first-round pick.

The question then arises: if Kent Hughes received an offer similar to the one discussed below, would you be in favor of this trade?

In Montreal: 1st round 2024 + Xavier Bourgault + Jack Campbell

In Edmonton: Samuel Montembeault

No way.
Campbell is a 5 M x 4 years cap dump. It would require the Oilers to give up more for a team to take on that cap dump.

Occasionally, you can tell when a team is feeding an insider PR. Rarely, but sometimes.

I refuse to believe that anyone, including Johnston, really believes that the Oilers are seriously considering that a potential fix is calling up the guy they just sent to the AHL and who has a 0.873 save percentage in both the NHL and AHL this season, just because he had one shutout. That's the quality of goaltending Laval is getting from Dobes and Mann.

What other options could he possibly find?
There are always options out there. Price may be exorbitant but there’s always options. Look at bottom 10 teams and who are out of the playoffs and may need to reboot. Good opportunity to gather assets from a desperate club.
If they continue losing for the next 10 games they are toast. They don't have 10 games.
That’s why they’re so important. They need to win 6 or 7 of them just to keep pace and move up a little.

Oops, misread your post — you meant what other suitors are available to dispatch a goalie. If Holland is willing to put a 1st rounder on the table and its protection is not too stringent, several are sure to come forward.
