The funniest part of hearing ANYone say
"Pfff habs ain't getting a 1st for Monahan"
Is knowing David Savard went for a 1st

And our own BEN CHIAROT went for a 1st , and the GM at the time was Kent Hughes

The question isn't will Monahan bring back a 1st
It's whether it's just a 1st or 1st + + basically

Don't listen to anyone else about this "will it be a 1st" nonsense

Truthfully, if I'm a playoff team I'd much rather give up a 1st for Chiarot or Savard than Monahan. I'm not sure if Monahan gets a 1st (although I wouldn't be surprised if he did), but some people on mainboard are saying a 3rd is overpayment should be banned from posting.

Get while the getting is good but if he hasn't received an offer or just a stink bid, what choice does he have but to wait.
We’re not privy to the offers obviously but sometimes a greed factor kicks in. Monahan is not a player you hold on to for too long as it could end up with two birds in the bush.

On the main board, there's always a good contigent of posters saying our prospects suck, our players aren't worth anything, any contract we sign is an overpayment and we got fleeced in every trade we do. That's been this way since the old days of hockey's future. The day we trade Monahan (if it comes), I wouldn't be surprised to see the very same posters saying Monahan isn't worth a 1st say we got fleeced if we get a 1st.

Who cares what they say?

Shall we prepare the bayonets for war sir?

I wouldn't necessarily go that far. Based on insiders comments, it sounds like his value (depending on how the market breaks and if there's retention) may range from 1st + something small to less than a 1st.

A lot of the comments on the main boards seem to ignore what's actually being said, but lets not pretend Monahan is a lock to return a first (if healthy).

Hughes is correct to set the ask for a first though based on deadline rental comparables.

Gaustad was traded for a 1st. I know big guy but still he had 17 points in 56 games that year and was a career 20 to 30 points guy who was 30.

Kyle Quincey was traded for a 1st. If you don't know who he was no worry nobody does. Ladislav Nagy was traded for a 1st. Many not so great players were traded for a 1st.

It's all about the market and intangibles.

Another Rangers bust hits the market. All these top picks and all they have to show is a 40pts wing ginger and K'Andre.

Hopefully Bobrov learned from his mistakes I'm kinda nervous ngl

Who would you have picked besides Laf or Kakko on draft day tho? This could also explain why they've put such a big emphasis on having a plan and having a development team in place here. Cause it doesn't look like NYR have one in place. Mind you I haven't been keeping tabs on them either.

I think a good blueprint for a Monahan trade is the Andrew Copp trade.
Both middle-6 center with an history of injuries, cap-friendly contract
Monahan has now 35pts in 49 games and Copp had 35pts in 56 games at the moment of the trade.

McGroarty is my target for Monahan
Wont be enough
They lost Dillon I would dangle Harris or Barron and grab a later pick. Our 2nd would be nice
Definetly we can add Barron. Winnipeg would love the brothers together. That may even be an overlay but I’d do it. Maybe also ask or our 2nd back

Gorton tried to get MSL to be the Ranger AHL affiliate team coach in 2017 (if I remember the year correctly), but MSL wasn't ready to leave his family back then. Rangers had Quinn as coach (he's with SJ now) until Gorton was flushed and Gallant was hired and now Laviolette, the last two are both win now coaches, not rebuild coaches.

I cannot wait to see what Money can fetch. He is literally the perfect player I would want in a cup run if I was any GM. It's crazy that we got him to take salary, he became valuable again and now we could see a huge return.

All these talking heads said the exact same or worse about Chiarot.
I'd swear it's their 1st year on the job.
He will get a 1st or prospect equivalent - 1000%

They just can't wrap their head around how BIG-BRAIN-HUGHES™ got a 1st for taking him and another for selling him.
