Ouch ! You mean three more full seasons ? And he is indeed a problem. Other younger players deserve his job.
Nah, he will play next year, team will still suck. It won’t impact their cap situation at all. By the end of his contract, I’d bet he will be on LTIR.

Oh my, I don't even know how to respond to that. Is that what you understood I was alluding to? I said nothing of the sort. I'll thank you now for not involving me in your fabricated fairy-tales in the future.
Given that you're trying hard to write elegantly, please do yourself a favour and look up the meaning of "hyperbole".

The more I think about it and look around the league of what the needs are and who is available, the more I think Monahan's return will be bigger than a lot of people think assuming he stays healthy and producing at this clip.

So many teams are in the mix and many of them need depth, not just at center but overall. There are few centers of Mony's calibre available and none for anywhere close to his cap. He's a big body, vet and putting up great numbers on a terrible team. He's exactly the type of player teams load up on for a playoff run and there is no shortage of teams who could use him.

Gallagher isn’t a problem. With the cap going up, contracts falling off (Armia, Price, Allen and Savard), they will have plenty of cap space. Gallagher will be gone by the time this team is ready to seriously compete for the playoffs.
They'll want to make the playoffs way before Gallagher's contract end.
If not next season, definitely the one after that.

It would be a real shitty move by Montreal to trade Monahan to an even worse team instead of a team aspiring to make a deep playoff run and potentially win it.
who cares, if a shitty team offers a better package you take it..this loyalty BS hasn't gotten us anywhere lol

That's pretty much what Lebrun wrote in his article today.
More buyers than good centers available.

Said that the Habs are ok with waiting until the deadline on Monahan.
He thinks they could get more than a 1st if they wait for a bidding war.
But also said that the Habs would probably just take a 1st if a team wants to avoid the bidding war and offer one now.

I think they might want to get the ball rolling sooner by leaking this info.

When selling, Hughes' MO has generally been that he sets a price and if its met, he'll make the trade. I don't think he cares about a bidding war, but wants his price met.

They aren’t making the playoffs next year, too many holes and the year after that is no guarantee.

Gally’s contract isn’t hindering the development/retool of this team one bit. He will be gone before this team is any good. They are 2 or 3 seasons from being a realistic playoff team.

Do you guys think Pittsburgh will go full scorched earth firesale if they dont make the playoffs or are they gonna give it another shot next year ?

Crosby will be 37 , Malkin 38 , Letang 37 , Karlsson 34

I'm honestly shocked people still want PLD after everything that happened, and how bad he's been in LA. His contract will end up being worse than Gallagher's. Avoid PLD!
Ya but he is the great Quebecois that is going to save us.He's the local hero. If his name was Joe Brown from Regina most on here wouldn't even consider acquiring this lazy disgruntled way overpaid bum.

Yes, there are no guarantees.
No guarantees that they won't make it either.
It's a bit early to tell.

Only if Crosby asks for a trade, which won't happen unless Hell freezes over.

That's not my concern at all. He is just taking the place of a player who could be more valuable for the team. They won't put Gally in the stands.

They probably will have to give it another shot, because with those deals I don’t think anyone but Crosby having significant. value… probably all in Dubas plan to tank 2025/2026 and land a franchise players.

Totally agree. Just pray none of the trade chips get hurt. That would be our luck though.

He’s not going to sit when he makes that much money. Plus he does put in the effort, such as it is. LTIR is really the only relief they’ll get from that contract. Not that I wish it on him.

Weren’t the Habs planning to trade Monahan last year? How did that work out?

And now they’re apparently OK waiting until the deadline to move him? That just sounds like posturing drivel to me.

I remember reading not too long ago that Habs wanted to move Mony early. Not sure if it was conjecture or if it was something Hughes had said, but I imagine it was for this reason. Now if clubs aren't ponying up yet, they may be forced to hold on to him until they get what they think is value for him whatever that is.

It’s nice to be positive but I prefer to be cautiously optimistic. In the event that a higher than anticipated return happens, then all the more fun.

Get while the getting is good but if he hasn't received an offer or just a stink bid, what choice does he have but to wait.
