I know draft picks are good.
But I would like another Dach deal
The question is, who ?

I think Johnson and Laine, mal-aimé in Columbus, could be realistic target but i am not sure if we have the necessary pieces to make it work, unless we are ready to talk Guhle.

You don't acquire Dach for old over the hill vets though. You'll get this type of deals by trading either picks or young players you just drafted. We don't have a Joe Nieuwendyk to trade for a young player. Guys like Anderson or Matheson are not worth much.

Zero interest in paying 4m a year for Montembeault. I'd trade him in a heart beat as I don't think he's anything particularly special.
Agree. You just can’t give that kind of raise to a marginal player when the team is bottom 10. 2,750 000/ year. Something like that.

I'd trade the following to Edmonton:
Montembault
Kovacevic

for
1st round pick
top prospect
cap dump

Long-shot, but the habs don't have any incentive to bail out EDM unless for an overpayment

Monahan is worth a lot especially to a cash strapped contender.

Id be looking at Colorado, Florida, Washington and Winnipeg really hard. Maybe even Detroit.

Samoskevich is small but plays a pro game, I think hed fit in well in our top 6, but Im unsure thats who Id be shooting for, but thats the best asset the Panthers have for us. Id do that trade. Money vs Samo+ picks.

Can Monahan pry out Byram from Colorado? If they add a guy like Harris whos, Kovo or Struble if he continues on his warpath? That would be an insane trade that would set up the left side, actually the defense, for a decade.

Byram-Reinbacher
Guhle-Barron/Mailloux
Hutson-Xhekaj
That would be sublime. And it gives us a lot of ammo to trade surplus like Harris, Struble, Hutson, Mailloux/Barron, Kony, Engstrom.

Washington has the obvious Hendrix Lapierre, but also Miroshnichenko and Cristall.

Peg has a lot of players too, Lucius, Lambert etc.

Hughes NEEDS to get creative with this one.

If we get Byram for Monahan be unreal. Christal I was hoping for if we kept Florida pick last draft

The fact that their is so much noise about EDM and MTL lead me to believe nothing will happen… I rather take picks than middling prospect, I feel like pick will be hold it value better to flip for better pieces.

I think it may be a bit of a dream because hes currently their #2 D, but they do have the strength to move a guy so good. Especially if we can bolster their right side and C. Id be down to send them a pick too, if Im honest.

There is always a lots of noise trade-wise between Edmonton and Montréal, usually the most unusual thing happen. But the Habs need to deal with their 3 goalies and Edmonton is bottom of the league in goaltending so...

I really feel like Montreal COULD work with Campbell's contract, if we were to inherit his case and got paid handsomely for it. It's not something that should be dismissed because it’s visibly ugly. For the purpose of this post, I’m gonna disregard if the Oilers even have or are willing to pay up a valid compensation – I leave that to the geniuses on the main board ;)

I think we would ship him directly to Laval for the rest of the year, out of the spotlight so he can get his fresh start, re-focus and become at least mid-AHL level (a la Kevin Poulin). I don't think everything is lost with this guy, but there's no way he makes any type of comeback in the Edmonton system. Yes, he’s a choker, but he got picked high for a reason and had decent moments with the Leafs, plus we’re not going to expect him to carry us at any level. By no means is he expected to contribute in the NHL for the Habs, but it'd be hard to convince me there are currently 64 tendies in the NHL/AHL that have reached or will likely reach what his peak was. He wouldn’t be blocking any of the 73 goalies we just drafted either in the next 2 years.

We would give him 1.75 year in Laval with a few recalls to test his mettle, and pay the 3.85M$ bury penalty easily until June 2025. Then when we want to compete / have to re-sign the overachieving youth (only Guhle and Slaf to re-up), we can buy him out and he just disappears in the yearly cap increase, for four years (ew but not ewwwwww).

My assessment is that this scenario is a net positive in terms of hope for Campbell himself, and a manageable handicap for the Habs FO. Pay us, and pay us well, but it's not unmanageable.

I'm thinking if Struble has good showing maybe give them Wifi in Byram deal.

Yeah, I'm in favour of it. People get worked up mid-season and miss the forest for the trees, but the variance in performance by goaltenders varies wildly. Just looking at this season vs. last, we've seen wild positive swings from Quick, Demko, Binnington, Talbot, Mrazek, etc. and negative swings from Gustavsson, Saros, Skinner, Samsonov, Vejmelka, Kochetkov, etc.

Odds are you get a better return taking on a bad goalie contract than trading a goalie.
