Indeed.

The picks tho have ended in Gulyayev and Gauthier.

A couple of guys you named are looking great (Rehkopf). There will statiscally speaking be some big hit after 31-37 but realistically we gave meh assets for a meh player.
Who other teams chose with those picks have absolutely zero relevance in who we would’ve taken.

Because the person i was debating with named a plethora of "hit" prospects picked after 37?
You were trying to downplay the importance of those picks which is why I brought it up. Ultimately I don’t care that much giving up 30-40 picks for a young NHL talent, but don’t try and create a scapegoat for management if there was a player was available in those spots available by bringing up poor scouting from other teams.

45 point pace with a lot of developmental runway left to go.. chances of either of those picks doing that even at the peaks of their career are low.

I guess the Newhook trade should be evaluated in terms of the draft picks having a skew distribution. Approximately:

70% chance of returning nothing with those draft picks.

25% chance of returning a Newhook-level player with those draft picks.

5% chance of returning a Aho-level player with those draft picks.

So whether or not it's a good trade is very debatable. You might say it's a good trade for Colorado either way, if they don't need a Newhook-level player at this time.

Those picks are meh asset and we had a meh player for them.

I did not create a scapegoat i even stated this trade might be a failure if Newhook dont have another gear, which is likely.

Man these rumors about the Oilers wanting one of our goalies are getting annoying.
Why? The teams needs to get ride of one, they can't ride 3 goalies all season long, and they lose anyone they waive for nothing.

Well it's the Oilers that are in need.We aren't doing anything but going for another top 10 pick.Doesn't really matter if we keep 3 goalies all year long .It's a game of chicken and Hughes will win eventually.

Primeau needs to see pucks to develop, not sit on a bench and gets top 14 games this season. That's a total waste of his development and time and the Habs should just waive him if that is the plan.

My problem with the G is that I don't want to pay Monty 4M+ per for multiple yrs. While he's ok, he's not worth it and it may have cap implication down the road.

At this point, it is clear that this roster cant compete for a playoff spot, so focus should be on assets maximisation and player development. With that in mind, Monty's value may never be as good as now: low cap hit and proven to be a NHL guy. Keep Allen and Primeau and hope that Primeau can develop to what Monty his now, but at a lower cap hit.

Zero interest in paying 4m a year for Montembeault. I'd trade him in a heart beat as I don't think he's anything particularly special.
He probably get traded in January or by the end of November. We rarely see any trade in December.

You bolded the wrong portion, your trade proposal said Kakko would continue to struggle, yet in defending Kakko's trade value you say he has only struggled for 15 games.
Try rereading the first post you replied to, and follow from there.

Why waive Primeau as some suggest? He will certainly be claimed. If the decision is to move on from Primeau, then trade him. Undoubtedly, there will be no shortage of teams who would pay at least a 4th or 3rd for him. Who knows, we may pick another FX.
At some point you have to also do right by the player. He needs to play to develop. If no one is offering any asset of interest, you have to take into account that for the sake of his career - and NHL careers are very short by nature - he needs to play.

If we did what was in our own short term interest (excluding reputation effects) we shouldn't have traded Petry for a 4th and had to retain on his contract next year. We'll need all the retention slots we can get next year.

Surely the Oilers would have done that by now if that was the asking price right? Even if he's just an okay backup, at 1 million dollars it's very worth it for them considering there season is practically done if they don't start piling up the wins right now.
Yes but I imagine Hughes is doing the ol' " we want to extend him, he's been a nice find, a 2nd and something might change our mind"

And the Oilers are probably looking at that move and realizing it's not a panic move, it's a half-ass move.

He's going from the Habs to a similar, possibly worse defensive structure and he hasn't been bad for the Habs, but he isn't steal games and keep you in it consistently type of goalie.

I know draft picks are good.
But I would like another Dach deal
I think we were spoiled by that one in Hughes's first offseason. Those kind of deals only come around once in a while.

We definitely need another good forward somehow.

"Primeau needs to see pucks to develop..."

Are you suggesting he see a new ophthalmologist?

Even if Habs would trade Montembeault for a 2nd? He been in Edmonton two weeks. Clearly Habs are holding Oilers over a barrel

He's staying in Toronto. Don't worry.
I think so too. Tavares should be odd man out. His contract is up next year so if they can convince him to waive his NMC and eat some salary, he’s who I think they’ll move in the offseason.

I think so too. But even if they can't move Tavares (he has a no-trade clause), they may just elect to go with a really cheap supporting cast for the 2024-2025 season, and then re-sign Tavares when his deal is up for something like 5M AAV.

Players like Domi, Bertuzzi, Klingberg are all UFA's after this year and can be replaced with cheap players for one year.
