Buy low opportunity??
Pretty sure Edmonton gets the list of new entrants to the players assistance before anyone else.

12 steps to AA (NHL addition)
1. Accept that your life has gotten out of control and that a trade to the Edmonton Oilers is the only road to recovery
steps 2-11
12. Playoffs!
13. Recovery (optional)

Last year was the worst deadline of all time...
even going back to pre-historic era where dinosaurs were traded for other dinosaurs...We couldn't even trade an Edmundsonsaurus for a bag of leaves.

I’ve had to resort to hallucinogenic substances myself, as I tried to figure out which dinosaur was traded for what other one in pre-historic times, based on your earlier post.

Did it work?

It did. I was able to trace a Trade that involved the dinosaur with the smallest brain (Stegosaurus Therrienus) for a Scratch-o-Saurus Rex.

While there was no trace of the Stegosaurus Therrienus after the trade (rumors are that he roasted his skin like a lobster), the Scratch-o-Saurus enjoyed a lucrative career as a circus act.

Instant classic right here! Hahah We need to double and triple down in this prehistoric dinosaur premise until Hutson grows tall enough to play hockey on the big boy rink

I suspect what’s holding a Monahan trade is that Hughes probably wants to make a second trade right after to bring in an nhl ready player.

The Habs don’t really need more picks. They need forward talent that is close to being/is nhl ready
I don't know about that. Why would a team be tripping over themselves and give up a 1st to get Monahan who will likely be a 3C for them this early on? Hughes has also refused to claim some waiver guys, it would be dumb to waste an asset when we have fewer games remaining.

I was thinking about something around Reinbacher for Laine(depending on the nature of his player's assistance leave), but I didn't see a fit with Columbus already having Jiricek. If it's true that things are souring between Jiri and the Blue Jackets and they move him(unlikely), then I'd be calling up Jarmo to see if there's any interest around a Reinbacher/Laine deal.

It's going to be deadline week. Hughes won't budge on his asking price and there isn't a team who would be desperate this early on.
I wouldn’t be surprise if it is done earlier Monahan even at KH asking will still be one of the cheapest available other GM will also have very high asking price. If your a GM of a contender setting the price high is very good since between the cap and high price less chance that other are making move to improve…
