He's good on faceoffs and is a big guy. If we can retain half his salary we'll find a taker at the deadline 2025. Return wont be great though.
Yeah it looks like we have to keep him for another season, there is no way to get out of his contract now without paying for it, so best to just keep him for another season

The words “ playing well” and “healthy” can never be used in the same sentence with Dvorak

I would expect a buyout - absolutely no team will want him even if he makes it to the TDL.

What a horrible trade that was
Regardless how horrible that trade was, that doesn't change anything to is value... He never took the step to be a #2C and is value is down but he is still great on faceoff and at least avg. when looking at bottom 6 C around the league. Even if you can't get anything a buy out would be even worst we don't even know who will be our 4 C next year and we won't need any cap space with only Xhekaj up for a raise + no notable UFA. He as 1 year remainning just ride it out. There no reason to lose 2M$ of cap space when you need to resign or find replacement for Guhle, Strubble, Harris, Savard Kovacevic, Primeau, Evans and Armia +3 more spot and there will be some very notetable player under 30yo that might hit UFA (Marner, Rantanen Draisaitl Buchnevich Sherterkin, Theodore Chychrun) with a few other notable guy over 30, We might need every cent of cap space.

Interestingly, Turcotte recalled by the Kings...if there is anyone that could use a change of scenery it's this guy. A once highly touted young center that played with Caufield.
Perhaps he was who was offered for Xhekaj.

Looking at young forwards that are either stuck behind other talent or could use a change:
Turcotte
Hayton
Kakko
Kaliyev
Holtz

Krebs
Drury
Veleno
Wahlstrom
Rasmussen
Berggren
R Suzuki
Frost
Lundestrom
Dellandrea
Glass
Olivier-Groulx

There is also Kotkaniemi which would be hilarious
Only those 3 are interesting, provided the price is low enough. I'd target Johnson in CLB.

Even at 50% retained not one team would be stupid enough to trade for his contract just he because he is good at face offs. Add in the fact that he gets constantly injured ( even from his Arizona days) and the reality is we are stuck with him.

The question becomes which poison do you want to swallow - a full one year cap hit of over 4 million or a lesser hit spread out over an extra year.

“Teams have not only called the Montreal Canadiens about tough defenseman Arber Xhekaj , but some have also presented concrete offers.

In fact, we learn that the Habs have received an offer for a young NHL forward, a former first round pick, with second line potential. Montreal refused. » - David Pagnotta

no way this is true

Is is a really good list! I’d love to take a look at Frost as I feel like he has enough skill to make it and is right in the age range of being nhl ready but not playing consistently, maybe look at sending a pick and a struggling contract back

We have zero need for cap space next season we will need lot of cap space the following season so it seem like a easy choice… also at 4.xM$ 50% retain at the TDL he will be probably under 900K there has to be a team that willing to give a 3rd or a 4th for a depth C and even if there is no team, he will be off the books. There is also the fact that he seem to be very close to Dach so why rock the boat when you don’t need too…

This could be Frost, Turcotte, or anyone who really hasn’t had an NHL impact at all, the first round pick can be misleading especially if it was a late first. Consider all of our mis to late firsts that just didn’t pan out (let alone our early ones). While Arber may have an increased value for what he brings vs his performance and skill he just possesses something that when drafting is difficult to find. I’m sure Ottawa would trade a former “top prospect” for him but it would be Boucher. Wording can be a funny thing.

Nobody is talking about trading Anderson. Now I like what he can bring and he has played hard and had bad luck this year. No rush to trade him. Imagine though him and Monahan in a package ? That would bring back a top asset, as in an A prospect or very good high ceiling young player who isn't contributing just yet.
Anderson rugged 15-20 goal scorer on small team up front. Doubt Hughes moves him.

It's going to be deadline week. Hughes won't budge on his asking price and there isn't a team who would be desperate this early on.
Probably. They should be but their GM's are too damn stupid to pull the trigger and get him (or any other player) for an extra month. Any GM that does nothing and misses the playoffs by less than 5 points should be run out of town.
