Couldn't they just send Roy down when they see that Ruzicka is available for them since he's waiver-exempt?
I doubt it, Roy being sent down was announced a few minutes before the day waivers list was released. Habs couldn't have known, unless someone from Calgary tipped them that they were doing it. Also, they could have waited to see if they got the guy tomorrow before sending Roy down.
Looks more like a coincidence.
And I'm not sure Habs will claim Ruzicka, reading a bit more about him. Well, he would fit right in with his inconstant efforts...and that's the problem.

Habs are short a center and clearly don't think of Ylonen/Pezz as regulars so I'd be shocked if they didn't claim him. Ideally, he's a winger but I sense that we will play Newhook as a center too when he's ideally a winger. Can't really afford to be picky when we got Dach/Dvorak out for the season and Monahan getting traded unless we want to use assets to acquire a center in a lost season which isn't ideal.

Hughes ain't worried about C he already has a deal in place to bring Dubois home for Gallagher, just so he can watch this place implode.

Jeez, how cheap are the Hawks!But Chicago has already claimed two players in January and that actually cost money (waivers pick-up aren't actually free).
They might not want to claim a 3rd player off waivers in a month just to send Guttman/Reichel down to the AHL.
Also, he would be their 15th RFA...

Mrazek has good stats this year considering he's behind an AHL line-up with all the injuries on the Hawks, better than the last two seasons even.
Also, Chicago has nobody else to put in net...
I wonder why Calgary put Ruzicka on waivers. Dube has taken a personal leave and they only have 13 forwards on the roster right now including Ruzicka and recent call ups Schwindt and Klapka. Pospisil is the only injured forward. Seems odd. Regardless, he would be a nice pickup for the Habs.
They also waived a D with Ruzicka. They will be down to 20 players tomorrow. Either they want to save some money, look at some prospects or have a trade pending and they need to free some roster slots.
