He's not that good, and he's slow. He adds a contract we don't need, and takes up a roster spot that we need for Newhook.

I'm good with not taking other team's garbage off waivers. We have enough of our own.
Don’t forget how Monty and Kovacevic came from waivers.

What’s the downside of claiming Ruzicka — you give him 30 days and if he doesn’t respond, put him back on waivers. :dunno:

We need centre help and size and his Forecaster profile appeared to show potential. Plus, he was mishandled by Calgary and they didn’t need him cause they have a lot of depth at centre.

I don’t get it.

Well I was dead wrong lol. We preferred hurting Laval and playing a guy with no NHL future instead.

I think it's part of the human element, rewarding the guys who are playing hard and doing things the right way on and off the ice.

If the organization shows that hard work is noticed and rewarded it's a net positive for both teams, even the ECHLers take note of these kinds of things. Creating a positive culture of hard work and effort should be the goal.

I'm sure we've all worked in organizations where you work your ass off and watch some non-performer get promoted ahead of you, those places sap you of your will to work hard. Hopefully this shows the opposite to every player in the organization that you can have a shot if you work hard and continually improve.

He doesn't have a future with us, like at all.

With Montembeault, he was claimed due to the Price situation at training camp, we only claimed him because we were desperate for a goalie.

With Kovacevic, we were pretty desperate for RD, and had a lot of injuries at D. Both Matheson & Edmundson were out. We had Savard, Wideman and a bunch of rookies.

We need to keep as much flexibility for trades as we can. We're at 22 of 23 contracts with Newhook still to come back. We need to stay at 22 in case we need to take on players/contracts for the moves we need to make.

I don't think we're desperate for waiver fodder right now. I expect them to pass on Bonino too.

We have 2 more games to play then the team is off for 9 days. There's no need to do anything immediately.

Are we not short of centres? If Ruzicka had zero upside, the Yotes would have passed too. I don’t see any downside risk of claiming him.

Not shocked, but rather dissapointed as he fits perfectly in the reclamation projects we love and adore without paying anything on top of it.

And Ruzicka is a friend of Slaf....I mean.....wasn't that a gimme?

No offense, but with the guys we are trotting out every night, I have no idea why we wouldn't have interest in Ruzicka. Had the same feeling after we passed on Tolvinen.
We apparently have too much depth at centre. Also, too much size. :sarcasm:

Well, Ruzicka would be just a new version of Denis Gurianov. You can clearly see the potential, but it is frustrating to watch his effort.

On the other hand, they brought in Filip Cederqvist for Laval instead of promoting an ECHL guy.
So there's that.

No, if anything it means Montreal wants to maintain roster flexibility in order to make trades. They'll want to keep the roster at 22 now through to the deadline when roster limits are no longer imposed.
I think they're already at 23 roster players.
And the contract limit is 50. They're at 46 right now.

And Calgary will need players if they are going to unload players at the deadline. If they are dumping a 6'4" centre the odds are he has little potential.

There was a spot recently vacated by the Lindholm claim, which brought us to 46.

Lagrange doesn’t see an issue with the current number of contracts doled out and his argument seems reasonable to me:

We played short a center one game. Condotta will play tonight and Saturday at 4th line center. I supported his recall. I'd rather give him an opportunity to earn NHL money & know the organization rewards hard working efforts. So, no, currently we are not short centers.

After Saturday, we're off for 9 days. Then have about 14 games until trade deadline. I imagine we'll continue to recall from Laval to fill out the bottom line.

As well more players will go on waivers as we get closer to the deadline, and keeping some roster flexibility is important as we head into the trade deadline run-up.

Florida dumped a 6’3 goalie and the Peg released a 6’5 D and both are still Habs and Monty in particular, can be the no. 1 goalie for the foreseeable future.

You just never know.

It's not just about contract spots. It's about roster spots. We're at 22 / 23 spots, with Newhook needing a spot. Once he comes back, someone will go down to keep us at 22 going into the trade deadline.

We need to keep roster flexibility in case we need to take contract dumps from other teams. I see no reason to add anyone at this time unless it's in a trade.

I completely disagree with his point.

It's a bizarre decision which I'm expecting to see with the team's on ice performance tonight. Either, the GM not giving a f***, is going to translate into the team not giving a f*** or they see it as some kind of family.... fox hole kinda thing and get the win somehow.

Condotta was so lacklustre at centre that Houle ended up moving him to the wing.

I agree about giving our AHLers a chance but Condotta’s strength is not at centre and we need a centre.

Also, there was a recently vacated contract spot when Lindstrom was claimed and we’re sellers at the deadline anyway, so new spots will be vacated.

I think it boils down to the internal evaluation of Ruzicka — had it been favourable, they would not have been concerned by technical arguments.
