Well there's three options.

1. He's not charged with anything and he'll be back soon.
2. He's charged but found not guilty in which case he'll not be back soon and i'm not sure about his contract status.
3. He's charged and found guilty in which case the Flyers will surely be able to void his contract but it wont happen another year or two.

I'm not sure what happens with his contract between an eventual time where he would be charged and the time of his verdict. Innocent until proven otherwise so not sure Flyers can end the contract i guess they can put him on some sort of LTIR?
If the NHL does right and bans these players, then I could see them being interested as a mentor for Errson if they don't just go with Petersen since he's there.

Dellandrea & Turcotte both have/can play at C.
both young, skilled, good skaters, yet to establish themselves as regular/everyday NHLers.

either, or both (with Monahan gone) could be good low cost stop-gap/evaluation options.

Monahan for Dellandrea + 1st
Allen @2M for Turcotte + 3rd

CC Suzuki Slaf
Anderson Turcotte Gallagher
Armia Evans Roy
RHP Dellandrea Ylonen

Tank worthy & roll the dice on 2 young players with untapped upside.

With Dach, Newhook back next year, 2 of RHP/Ylonen/Turcotte/Dellandrea get waived or traded before next season starts.

Trade Dvo + Cgy 1st for Zegras (or sign Stamkos :naughty:

CC - Suzuki - Zegras/Stamkos
Slaf - Dach - Newhook
Anderson - Turcotte - Dellandrea/Roy
Armia Evans Gally
Pez/Beck

You guys thinking anything happening soon?

Or will HuGo use some time and injuries to leverage something bigger?
Isn’t next week bye week for Habs…if anything happens early could be next week at earliest IMO

There’s also strategy at play, teams that act early to upgrade for playoffs set market pricing..

Also, what do NYI need? Uncle Lou made his coaching move, no playoffs this year and he could be gonzo @ 82…

Why? A late 1st round pick has a low probability of ever becoming an NHLer

People overvalue late first round picks, especially now that there are 32 teams in the league. Given how wide open the Cup race is this year, giving up a pick in the late 20s or early 30s for a better chance at winning the cup isn't a huge price to pay.

Hum, it's a 1st, a nobody and a LD? I say pass... We have enough experiments with Barron, I bet we could just swap Jones for him.

Edit: Oh and Jones is UFA, now that's a serious pass. We can get better.

...I know there are some bad trade takes on the main boards, but why do you think Montreal could do better than a 1st? Jones and even Kovalenko don't really matter.

For Moneyhands, hopefully soon, for reasons we’ve recycled to death.

However, we’ll be down 2 centre spots after he’s gone so have to believe a journeyman C will be incoming whether in the Monahan deal or some other.

Turcotte is too injury prone and doesn’t have top-6 upside. He’s not struggling to succeed in the NHL, he’s struggling to even crack the league as a 4th liner. From what I’ve seen in the AHL, there’s not a single definable trait that makes me think he’s got more upside than what he’s shown to this point. Maybe he becomes similar to Jake Evans, but we have guys in-house on similar pathways.

Dellandrea has shown he can stick in the league - he’s a bit more interesting and has some jam to his game. That’s quite a bit of value back for Monahan.

Holloway is another one I’d look at. I think he can become a legitimate middle-6 player if he escapes Edmonton.

Supply and demand. It all depends how many centres are made available. And factor in that Monahan takes up very little cap space compared to any other centre available.

Its hard to see the market breaking in such a way that a 1st for no retention isn't a deal worth accepting.

Turcotte certainly has had his career derailed by injuries, though he's been relatively healthy this year and is having a strong year in the AHL.

Not sure that his top-6 potential is fully closed, he's an incredibly smart player with skills that could translate to quality top-6 NHL & from all indications has the attitude/work ethic to keep improving... but either way, neither he nor Dellandrea would be additions to slot into top-6 role, moreso dice rolls for upgrading and/or better cap value middle-6 roles the next 2-3 years (replacing/improving on Dvo, RHP, Ylonen, Gally et.).

the Dallas trade could include a small + (4th? depth prospect?) to get the Stars to say yes while still being worthwhile.

Holloway, and to a lesser extent, Bourgault, are certainly other potential targets in the same mould.

Holloway and Dellandrea are interesting because they can finish the year with us at C, but slot in nicely as wingers heading into next season if we can identify a better 3C option or if Dvo is still in town.

Need scoring bad... that is a must. 3rd and 4th line guys no thanks

do you really think the deadline move(s) Hughes is going to make are of the "buying" variety?

I would be shocked if the player returned in moving Monahan is an immediate upgrade on him.

I suppose an opportunity could present itself for Hughes to move futures for a top-6 upgrade with term/RFA rights from another non-playoff team, but I would imagine the odds of that to be quite low.

unproven/upside players or dept veterans/cap dumps... that seems like the most likely roster player additions we'll see before the deadline imo

Because Jones and Kovalenko aren't worth a 2nd imho. So a 1st & 2nd is a better offer. Even 1st & 3rd, I'd take before the dead wood.
So, I guess the habs/Laval can sign Comtois now...
Have the 5 players been named?
