Which is why it makes no sense to acquire a first. Get the prospect right away. He decided to spend assets to prime from 2024, he has to keep going.

Id look hard at Lekkerimaki, Nikishin, Morrow, Lambert, Lucius and of course Ritchie, who would be the crown jewel. à
I wonder if Nashville would want to add too, L'heureux, Tomasino, Kemmel could all be insane gets.
Always depends which teams are trying to get Monahan and what they are offering. If no teams offers more than a (late) 1st round pick, it's not like Hughes can force them to hand over a prospect.

Colorado would be nuts to trade Ritchie. They have zero center depth behind MacKinnon. Johansen isn't it. Avs fans hate him & don't think he's an NHL player anymore. Colton is a 3rd liner.

The only way they trade him is if they know they're getting all of their injured players back by playoffs: Landeskog, Nikushkin & Lehkonen. Then, they could offer him to Calgary for a *signed* Lindholm.

I don't see Monahan getting a high end prospect, but it's possible we could get one of Lambert or Lucius out of Winnipeg.

Winter-peg will surrender a late 20s / early 30s 1s rounder before a prospect of any value

Yes, that's why I said crown jewel. There is something to be said about a contender like the avs and their missing links. It is really the only thing between being the best team in the league and middle pack. Well, that and injuries.

What do you do? Do you waste maybe one of the last year of Rant Ma kAr because you want to wait for Ritchie? What if someone outbids them on Lindholm? Its a pretty big conundrum.

Ritchie is not that special. You easily move him+ for Lindholm. For Monahan maybe straight up if they don't know if Landeskog is coming back.
And even then they aren't winning anything unless they get a goaltender.

Is Alex Turcotte worth taking a chance on? He's had a ton of injuries which have hampered his development and the Kings are loaded up front so who knows if he'll get a chance there.

I wouldn't give up much, but our shitty centre depth is about to get even worse when Monahan goes, so he'd get a solid opportunity to end the year here.

I'm only basing this off of what it cost for Dach/Newhook and the answer is no.

If it's going to cost a 1st, I'd rather the team pass on Turcotte.

He's below average NHL size. He's doing well in the AHL while the others were at least in the NHL.

Turcotte for the avs 2nd ? Sure. That's about it. LA likely holds onto him as they did that with Kempe, who was good, but became even better. Vilardi figured it out and was used to get PLD. Byfield seems to have figured/figuring it out.

There is much better fishes than Turcotte to go after.

And the Habs center line is only shitty because they have 3 of them injured in the NHL, had multiple injuries to their C at the AHL level and their prospect centers either just started their pro career or haven't yet.

Let's keep our assets than taking a flyer on Turcotte. In any event, I think Beck presents as having a higher ceiling than Turcotte at this stage.

What do you of Gabe Perrault instead? He was good in WJC. Worth Monahan to Rangers?

You take that and run.

If Monahan was 24.

I'm very skeptical the Habs will get a 1st for him let alone a good prospect
Yeah especially not a guy just drafted IMO , maybe a guy 2-3 years out in need of a change of scenery or underperforming/not developing well

Why not - Habs could then have notoriety for father & son 1st round bust combo
