Anyone think the lack of a Montembault contract announcement is connected to a potential trade? Friedman had thought it was imminent two weeks ago.
I don't remember hearing that. I read in the french media they were discussing his contract and they were all surprised by it.

How much will Sam cost? 4 mil is my guess.
That's probably what he is asking with too many years, and he's not worth that nor the Habs plans for the future (that's one of the Gs drafted last year). He could turn into another Campbell right after signing that contract too.

We should cash out on him if possible. The Oilers are ridiculously desperate so they should be the target.

I don't know why people are all caught up on Monty Allen and Primeau , flip all 3 for all I care , the guy in net for us when the team will be good hasn't played a single NHL game for us or will come from another organisation
I said the same thing a few days ago. Don't care about any of these 3. When team is good we hopefully have a good goalie. All these 3 are way to inconsistent to carry the team when needed.

Edmonton could acquire the 2nd coming of a Patrick Roy/Dominic Hasek hybrid in his prime and still be a mediocre goalie with that shit show going on there.

Team defense sucks in general not just tne defense core per se.
I disagree. The goaltending really has been that bad for Edmonton. The amount of crippling goals they give up is on another level right now. It also cost them a series in last years playoffs.

I like monty , id even go as far as to say he's pretty good. Its irrelevant to us though the team is rebuilding and he's not gonna be a 50 game surefire starter in the league

Do you think Monty or Allen would look good there? I know we suck at defence but the oilers might be worst

I don't know if it's a good idea to try to develop the youth with goaltending worse than Allen and Montembault backstopping them. And I don't think anyone knows if Primeau is better, the same, or much worse than them.

And, I just don't know if Monty or Jake can get us any asset that will help in the future. So it may be worth hanging on to them as a stop gap until the goalie of the future is ready.

I wouldn’t touch Allen with a ten foot pole if I’m Edmonton. He’s not what they need. He’s way too inconsistent and the chance of him becoming another expensive problem is high. Montembault is an interesting option. He’s done well with not to much help here and if they’re looking to get out of a hole this year, he would help at a low cap hit.

Not sure we lost it. We gave the most mid picks there is for probably the most mid player there is.

I won't cry over 31 and 37 overall pick. These are the most commonly traded assets.

I won't certainly get excited over Newhook either.

A grey trade that is.
Except we couldve drafted Cristall, Rehkopf, Hameenaho, Heidt, Hrabal, UngerSorum, Sawchyn, Brzustewicz, Barkey, and a bunch of others who all look incredible.

And Im a fan of Newhook.

Indeed.

The picks tho have ended in Gulyayev and Gauthier.

A couple of guys you named are looking great (Rehkopf). There will statiscally speaking be some big hit after 31-37 but realistically we gave meh assets for a meh player.

Oilers need to move out sone bug contracts and use assets to get cheap contracts like Tampa did.

Campbell, Nurse, Cesi, and Kulak need to be moved out.

They need a goalie, the right dcore and one more top 6 forward.
huge ask on EDM part to get done. See if Holland is up to this

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Oilers have demonstrated their interest in Primeau and Montembeault and have requested clarity on Montembeault's contract extension negotiations. Should the Canadiens keep Monty and if not, what would you want in return

They're worse defensively than the Habs especially off the rush. Skinner has been bad and Campbell worse but some nights the don't even have a chance

Monahan for Kakko...

Wonder if that could have legs in January assuming Monahan stays healthy & Kakko continues to struggle?

Would you add, if so how much? Depending on what the actual offers are on the table for Monahan, a 1:1 might well be enough... But I'd add Minny's 3rd or perhaps even Avs 2nd to get it done.

With Chytil out, possibly very long term (& even if not, 1 hit away from another IR stretch), I would expect the Rangers to be aggressive in adding a C to bolster their depth for a cup run. Monahan checks the box almost perfectly for them (impact, versatility, cap hit).

Kakko is still struggling to establish himself, but the tools & ceiling remains... Worth taking a gamble on & fits our core age group perfectly (give us ALL the '19s lol)
Then Monahan sign 4X5 this summer.
