I don't get the rush. Value will increase from here. Just gotta hope there's no injuries lol
I think it's about shaking things up a bit. Show that they cannot be complacent. There's got to be another team looking to send a similar message using a player with very low or next to nothing value. Like we would.

Not sure if this has been posted, but tvasports reporting dreger and paniotta reporting that Monahan will be traded and that there was an agreement in place when he re-signed that he'd be traded to a contender, and that he would have some say in where he goes.

I hope this doesn't affect the return in a trade. I leaned toward wanting to re-sign Monahan. But if he wants to move on, it's understable. Just hope he's traded for at least a late 1st, hopefully better.

Insider Trading.

Canucks want to add a top 6 forward. Monahan a good option for many teams. Dreger says the Habs have an agreement with Monahan that he would be dealt to a contending team. Dreger expects Monahan to be the first player traded.
How about:

Monahan to Vancouver
vs
2024 1st

Savard and Allen to Colorado, no retention plus Harris or Kovacevic
vs.
2025 1st, Lehkonen (we need PK expertise)

A, Xhekaj to NJ
vs
2024 1st, conditional 2025 2nd (removed if NJ misses playoffs 2024)

Gallagher to EDM no retention
vs
Campbell no retention, plus 2024 2nd, plus 2024 cap dump

Why would the Avs trade Lehkonen?

Gallagher's contract is worse than Campbell's because it's 1.5M more AAV. if the plan is to use Gallagher, and not bury him in the minors like they should with Campbell, then it's 2.5M in capspace. Oilers don't need to spend 2.5M more in deadweight lcap space to add Brendan Gallagher.

Monahan could happen depending on supply demand.
The other three are way lopsided in favor of the Habs . Allen has negative value, Lehkonen is worth a 1st+ if we believe what he was traded for. Kovacevic Harris are not worth more than a 2nd.

It's only 1.5M because they no longer need to cover the player Gallagher replaces on the roster.

Edmonton needs a home town boy like Gallagher to bring grit to their overly finesse game.

I think he's currently worth a 2nd but like you said depending on supply and demand/desperate GMs, we should be able to get a late 1st hopefully. Not sure if he'd fetch any more than that though I think that's peak return for him.

Maybe the Colorado one.

Gallagher contributes to an NHL team.
Campbell does not.

Xhekaj should fetch at least as much as Romanov.

romanov was a highly regarded prospect who had been playing 140 games for the Habs over two seasons. Xhekaj is a feel good story of an undrafted player making it to the NHL and right now sent back to the AHL.

Maybe Xhekaj will be better than Romanov but right now, I don t think any team would give up 13 OA for him.

Campbell is paid 1.5 less than Gallagher per year. Gallagher would be a 4th liner on a contending team, nobody touches that contract.

Gallagher should be 4th liner in Habs team :(
Yeah I have no problem keeping Gallagher on the 3rd or 4th line. Hes overpaid thats for sure but right now in a rebuild we dont have capsoace issue. As long as he remains a good leader, crash the net and show the kids to give it all on the ice im alright with him

so Monahan is for sure gone but im curious about Savard i do believe that if we retain we can get something good for him but idk if management wants to trade him since we have so many young/rookie def

Not expecting a busy trade deadline, this offseason should be more interesting for our team

I think Monahan, Allen and Kovacevic get traded at TDL.

Monahan for a 2nd round pick
Allen for a 4th no retention + expiring salary
Kovacevic for a 3rd

We need Savard next year and he will probably net a 1st at 2025 TDL. Too much years left on Matheson and Anderson deals to be traded now.

“We have to go back to the off-season when the Canadian signed Sean Monahan . They had an agreement at that time that said he would be traded when the time was right to a competitive team or a team of his choice, nothing has changed on that. » -Darren Dreger

I am torn in trading him, like him as a player. But I sure hope Kent gets a good prospect for him. or a #1

A telling sign of ongoing discussions between the two teams emerged when Pagnotta revealed the Jets sent two scouts to yesterday's game at the Bell Centre. Although teams frequently send scouts across the league, the presence of more than one scout generally indicates serious interest in evaluating a player. Winnipeg has several promising young talents that could attract the interest of Kent Hughes. Additionally, they hold the Canadiens' second-round pick for the 2024 draft, a pick expected to be a top-40 selection based on the team's current ranking.

I could see Kovacevic being a sweetener in any deal with Winnipeg just due to familiarity, salary and adding some depth, don't know about the rest of the package. Winnipeg are pretty stingy and that's the only reason I am not interested in them and the Habs dealing with each other.

Savard is not getting traded this season. The RDs are not developed to the point they don't need his babysitting anymore and the Habs have zero NHL depth at the position.

Matheson is the one who is expendable and LD is where the team needs to open spots for the young players. But that's probably an off-season trade with his term.
