If the reports are right, Pinto will sign at 800K for the rest of the year.
He doesn't have much leverage anymore.

So no need for them to create cap space unfortunately.

Even at $800K, they don't have room for him. According to CapFriendly, Sens only have a little under $13K in cap space with no LTIR cushion.

The only quick option they'll have is to send Ridly Greig to Belleville. He is the only forward who is waiver-exempt. And he makes $834K, which would make enough room for Pinto if he does indeed sign for $800K.

Only other waiver-exempt player they have in the NHL is Sanderson, and he will never see the AHL.

Anyone else they have will have to go through waivers, which they can do 24 hours before they activate Pinto.

But as things stand now, they don't have any room for him even at the minimum salary.

Seriously though. It would be pretty cool to sign him to a reasonnable contract for him to finish his career in Mtl. And he would still be able to help us alot, maybe even be our best player.

I agree, it would be awesome, I wonder if it will work.

I'm talking a 1st and potentially more.
Might be. If Senators management has given up on the year then there is no rush for them to find a goaltender and defensemen who can defend. In that case they may be looking for futures and the price will be too high. If they want to make it look like they are trying to make the playoffs players like Kovacevic, Harris, Savard, Allen may be of interest.

I posted this a few days ago. He turns 38 in the summer he becomes a UFA.

I'd sign him to a 3 x 8.7 contract and have him for his year 38, 39 and 40. I think he would still be an 80, 70 and 60 point player in those years. Great leadership and huge marketing.

Greig Ridly is currently their 3rd line center, Pinto will take his spot in the line-up anyhow.

Who in their right mind would touch Dubois on an 8 year $68 million dollar contract?he has 16 points in 37 games and making that kind of cash. The kings retaining would be and understatement. They would have to eat at least half of that contract for 8 years and throw in prospect and/or 1st rounds picks

unless he falls off a cliff he would absolutely be our best player when he’s a UFA, he’s still a top tier player in the league. If he’s even remotely open to the idea we have to do it

Montreal, Canada

Dreger on Trade deadline.

Summary:

Montreal in a good spot because they have valuable pieces available. Even somebody like Armia is a good piece for a contending team in a depth perspective.

Monahan - Habs feeling pretty good about it. A lot of expected interest from many teams. He is a very valuable commodity. Hesitates to say what he could fetch. Habs will get a very good return.

Zegras - Anaheim have perused the market to find out the level of interest in Zegras. He believes its an offseason trade. He is sure Montreal will be involved in it once Anaheim gets to it.

Despite what the fans think of Zegras, I'm convince as well 110% that KH will be all over Zegras come the summer if available

FWIW any time you can add pure skill to your forward group, you kinda have to strongly consider it. Zegras comes with a lot of red flags attached to him, but he's still a very young player on a pretty cheap, manageable deal term wise. If MSL and Co. can set him straight, you've got another Dach situation on your hands. That's a very tempting proposition.

I genuinely hope not. Zegras is probably my least favourite player in the league. Not a fan of his game

Every team needs some pure offensive talent. D can come in time and with experience. Habs best forward prospect is Joshua Roy. Let that sink in.

But does Greig really deserve to be sent down? Maybe they will because it's the quickest option. Or maybe they'll waive Kastelic to send him to Belleville and place Greig as their 4C. Kastelic would make the move if Pinto does indeed sign for $800K.

I'd rather pay more and go after Kyrou over Zegras. I don't like his defensive game (worst +/- for forwards in the league last year), but his goalscoring/offensive creativity/speed combo is so much better than Zegras that I think he would look fantastic next to Dach.

Where would Zegras fit on the Habs?
I don’t think he does. So far under HuGo there has been on constant: the players they bring in in trades or drafts have all been team first players. The rumours are that Zegras is the opposite of that. Moreover, there’s the lack of willingness to play a 200ft game that they won’t like. Skill level is undeniable but how does he fit with the culture and team first mentality? He doesn’t
