The issue is that all our asset are older (Monahan, Savard, Pearson) that might fit on contenders or player that we should build around (Guhle, Slaf) player that have bad contract ( Gallagher, Anderson) or player that have uncertain future/value (Allen, Kovacevic, Harris, Farrell, Mailloux, Barron) we don’t have what team looking or hoping to get of moving the prime player Laine…

It depends to what extent Laine would be relied on and the price to acquire him.

Kessel was quite the acquisition for PIT and he had a reputation too

Friedman says Edmonton watched all 3 goalies in Montreal.

- it isn't close at this point, if there is a deal to be had

- Says it isn't just Montreal
- says Allen isn't likely.
- Contract talks haven't gone as smoothly with Monty.
- he personally thinks Montreal will want to make a deal sooner rather than later.

Laine could be a decent buy low project at this point, his reputation is about as low as it can get right now. The flip side is you have a headcase on your hands after that, though. The all former player coaching staff might actually do him some good.

This

He's the antithesis of what we should be looking for in a player. Talented but has too much baggage to consider imho
After all these years of not having skill or talent you think we need to continue to not have skill or talent

Amazing

Pearson should be our top trade bait.

I'd trade Monahan but only for a severe overpay, and only if we have a little side bar to gauge his interest next year. If he is walking, then trade away.

One of our goalies, preferably Jacque Allain for the best possible return. I have been thinking of a way to get him to Edmonton and somehow make it work, but I just can't see it. Not a lot of salary they can ship back to us. Maybe Foegele? I want the highest possible pick for Allen.

Looking ahead to the next two drafts. We once again have draft capital. I would package picks to acquire projects for teams who can't afford rfa's due to other bad contracts. Young futures, with some proven ability. More Dach's and Newhooks.

While Laine is a skilled sniper, I wouldn't trade Hutson for him.

I would only want him if our price was reasonable and including some of our own draft capital.

Why would Edmonton want Allen?
They need a goalie. Friedge had mentioned that they were looking at one of our three. Sure, I'd offer Primeau. But, we could get more return for Allen.

Why? I have no clue. Just asking based on Friedman's mention of it.

Monahan (healthy), Savard and Pearson are all players teams would be interested in at the deadline. Only Monahan would return top assets though.

Primeau should be worth more than Allen. Allen folds under the pressure of being a #1 like Campbell. Montembault and then Primeau should be their choices.

I’m not sure of anything when it comes to the Oilers. How far are they willing to go to get a deal done?
It doesn’t seem like they have any need for a terrible goaltender (Allen) imo

They’d buy-low on Montembault and that’s it I figure. Or swap Allen for Campbell but that’s a huge benefit to their cap situation and nothing relevant to their competitive ambitions directly.

I feel like the goalie market is such that we're better off keeping all our goalies than what we'll get offer

If someone sees Primeau as a good prospect and wants to give us a good d prospect or forward prospect in return, that would work. If it's a pick it has to he a 2nd or a 1st. Or else I'd just rather see if he can turn the corner here.

A first for Primeau? Has got to be a typo. 24 games, 4 wins, .874.

More tidbits from Friedman:

Edmonton is not an attractive destination and a lot of players have them in their NTC so that is hurting the oilers.

Lekhonen's injury is very significant and team is looking for scoring help.
