If you rebuild, they will come.

I don't get the whole ''Flyers did well 'cause they were not in a positioin of strength''. Sure, I like Drysdale too. But not wanting to play for the Flyers is not Gauthier telling them that he'd only be traded to 3 other teams. They had 31 other teams to choose from. You have to hope that Drysdale is really the best they could have had.

Rebuilds take actual time. By the end of this draft, the talent they'll have stocked up will be rather impressive. Meanwhile, our talent pool will be the ? in the underpants gnomes equation.

Anaheim could end up in Sabres territory.

Montreal is doing better than Anaheim and I'd rather be the Habs than the Ducks. Even if Habs miss the playoffs, they are showing progress.

Imagine the Canadiens draft Top-10 for 5 consecutive drafts (two of them being Top-3) and in their 6th year, they're still Bottom-3 in the standings. That wouldn't fly around here.

Damnit - that is exactly the kind of trade we needed to make.

Why were we not in on this?

FFS ... it was the absolute perfect opportunity to get that elusive centerman we’ve been trying forever to find.

Really disappointed.

Unless of course he did not want to play here as well.

Who says we weren’t? They negotiated with 18-20 teams.

He isn't a centre.

Tanking pays if done to the limit properly and a little luck helps on choosing at the right draft year unlike us

Doesn't matter how much talent Gauthier has ,Start whining about where you want to play when he hasn't played a single game in the NHL is a huge strike right from the get go.
PLD did the same thing because of Tortorella.

So hopefully this is a repeat of the Adam Fox trades.

Fox: Flames drafted him.
Gauthier: Philly drafted him.

Fox: Flames make a blockbuster trade to send Fox and Hamilton to Hurricanes for Lindholm and Hanifin.
Gauthier: Philly makes a blockbuster trade to send Gauthier and a 2nd to Anaheim for Drysdale.

Fox: Canes trade Fox to Rangers for 2 x 2nd round picks.
Gauthier: Ducks trade Gauthier to Montreal for 2 x 2nd round picks. ;)

Calisse...Anaheim has Carlsson, McTavish and Gauthier????

Anaheim, that's what we call a rebuild with quality.

Ducks have been sucking even if they have Top-10 picks in 5 consecutive drafts and on their way to pick high again in a 6th year. That's not a rebuild I'm interested in living through.

At some point, your rebuild needs to show progress. Ducks seem to be getting into Sabres territory. Their top picks do great, but the team still sucks.

what are you talking about? Ducks prospects are no better than the Habs.

Habs have been showing progress during their rebuild. I'm much more interested in that than the cycle Ducks find themselves in.

And I think Ducks came away with the better player. However, Flyers are doing great this year and just added a Top-4 young D.

A comparable Montreal trade might be something like this

to Washington - ghule

to Montreal - Ryan Leonard and Washington’s 2025 first round pick lottery protected through pick 10

The Habs couldn’t have beat that package? They have defensemen up the wazoo.
Maybe he chose were he wanted to go. Most Americans don’t want to come up North for whatever reason.

Besides, wouldn’t you want to play in Anaheim with their weather and stacked prospect pool? I would.

i doubt they are giving up any d prospects until they are pretty sure what their ceiling is. Far easier to get forwards than defensemen
Any more than the Flyers knew for certain what Gauthier’s ceiling is. Key thing is that the Habs would have been dealing from a position of strength. They should have beat that offer — even if Gauthier is not a center.
