Not really, IMO.

I know Nylander is on pace for 100+points and 46 goals, but a season's long and he never had more than 87 points in his career year today last season.

He reached 40 goals the nose just once and that could be an outlier for goals scored, for all we know.

PROVEN is a strong word until it is truly proven. Sounds more like words spoken by a fan boy.

Just saying...

At 11.5M, Nylander needs to become a consistent 40-goal, 100+ point player to make the cost worthwhile.

Not sure Nylander puts up those totals on a team that doesn't have Matthews, Tavares and Nylander as team mates?

Nylander, in Montreal, might be more a PPG player, topping out in the low to mid-eighties in points.

I would never pay 11.5M to such a player.
yes, sure, like we don’t need 40 goal and 100 point players - when was the last time we’ve had one of those?

And no I’m not a fanboy.I’m a hockey fan who appreciates good players wherever they play.

For once I wish we had one of those.

If you want to see overpaid terrible contracts, look at most of the players on our team

Other question is how likely might management be able to acquire such a player without having to draft him?

If we could package to add the WIN 1st rounder in the return,I'd also target Iginla at this year's draft.

Caufield - Suzuki - ...-Nygard/Lindstrom
Vesalainen - Dach - Slafkovskly
Iginla - Beck - Roy
Newhook - F.Xhekaj - Heineman

Imagine a team rich enough in talent house newhookon it's fourth line!?
Imagine a coach putting Newhook on the 4th line while a player with 5 career points in 70 NHL games get put on the second.

The way Allen is playing this season + his big contract still good for another season = Hughes will have to accept way less.

It's still not as bad as you make it sound, especially I'm sure every GM, Scouts, Exec will take into account the quality of the team in front of those goalies.

Allen's numbers are a whole lot similar to older goalie earning similar money. Korpisalo, Husso, Mrazek, Peterson, Saros and others, Only the W-L-OTL differ but those are team stats too.

Allen is an anchor right now for this team. Monty and primeau can easily do the job and better than him. He is expensive end takes a precious roster spot.
They'll waive him when they are finally convinced the goalie market is and has always been crap.

“Sources close to both organizations suggest a major trade is brewing, which could see the Jets part ways with Kristian Vesalainen and a 2024 second-round pick, with Sean Monahan returning to Winnipeg. » -Bill Scott
if Newhook is worth two 2nds, early and later, Monny is worth a late 1st and 2nd to a team that thinks he’s a missing piece for them.

why would they want Vesalainen? He did nothing with Winnipeg and does he even want to return to the NHL?

We are keeping Allen in case Primeau falls apart completely which I get, but Monty should be getting a starter's amount of work anyways. With half a season left, signing a replacement in free agency won't be difficult.

I wouldn't be so sure, we're accustomed to stellar goaltending so of course Allen falls a little short, but as a backup heading into the playoffs you could do a lot worse.

Oettinger been injured for a while, if his status remains uncertain you don't go into the playoffs with just Wedgewood (as we saw recently).

Adin Hill has been out for a while, a 2nd is a small price to pay for Vegas to solidify the net and not just have Thomson.

Allen is better than what the Leafs got... Hell even Carolina's net is nothing to brag about, Avalanche might take a peek too, both their goalies are under .900, Edmonton doesn't want to pay but god knows they should.

We'll see but my money is Hughes will get a decent offer, the heat will turn up by the TDL

He will never be waived. They will keep him until his contract runs out if they don't get the asking price.
I expect a GM with very little experience to do this yes. Meanwhile, you'll get Primeau under-played and eventually joining the crap goalie market as well

I guess we don't really care ah.
