So a 2nd round pick for Monahan.

I have no idea why the Habs would be trying to get Vesalainen's rights.

Don’t know who Bill Scott is but that blurb comes from what looks like a clickbait site: Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets Trade Rumor

Another red flag is how the site claims that they were able to get confirmation from “sources close to both organizations” when we know from Hughes’ past dealings that he runs a tight ship and keeps his plans close to the vest and how the vast majority of his moves have not been predictable.

We’ll see, I suppose.

Cause not every faux rumor mongerer is known by an “insiderrrr” tagline. :sarcasm:
Yeah, the rumor looks very dodgy. I guess someone just looked for "prospect 1st rounder" on the Jets and didn't realize the guy was 24 and playing in Liiga...

How can we make this Vesalainen + Jets' 1st round pick, either in 2024 or 2025?

Monahan + Barron + Habs' 2025 2nd round pick?

Vesalainen - Dach - Slafkovsky could be an interesting line, with Caufield - Suzuki and one of Lindstrom or ...-Nygard as the RW from this year's draft?

MOAR size with skill on both counts?

16 goals, 21 assists in Liga play ought to translate well for Vesalainen at the NHL level. At 24, 6'3" and 207lbs, I'd consider that return for Monahan, along with a 2nd round pick in 2024, but I'd put Nicolas on improving the kid's skating as a priority to make him even more dangerous as a power forward.

If we could package to add the WIN 1st rounder in the return,I'd also target Iginla at this year's draft.

Caufield - Suzuki - ...-Nygard/Lindstrom
Vesalainen - Dach - Slafkovskly
Iginla - Beck - Roy
Newhook - F.Xhekaj - Heineman
Tough to really put a finger on the value of these young D. And they might have different value to different teams. Someone might like Xhekaj's size and toughness more vs Struble's mobility and steady play.

I'm just spit balling but Bourque fits exactly the profile of player Hughes has been bringing in.
Better candidates out there, IMO, because Bourque is another smaller C at 5'10" and a C-line of Suzuki-Bourque-Beck is too small,IMO. I'm assuming you are targeting Bourque as insurance against an often injured Dach not panning out at C?

With Siegenthaler injured, Devils might use some LD. Also, experienced goalie like Jake Allen might be good for them. They might be good trading partner for us, nowadays.
Matheson at 50% + Allen for Holtz + 2024 1st round pick?

That would make my day/month/year!

Trade Savard as a rental at 50% at next year's trade deadline when we get back an extra Cap retention spot.

With one retention spot only, it will be hard to chose who to use it on between Dvorak, Armia and Savard.

Eclown trying to plant seeds for his buzz cult? Bunch of accounts around here have been attempting the same maneuver. Seeding stupidity to increase traffic isn't new sadly.

We're not getting any other teams' top prospects, unless we are trading a Pacioretty level player. That's how we got Suzuki.
Suzuki was not still in the AHL in his D+4. Bourque has promise but is two notches below Suzuki.

Even on draft day, Suzuki went 13th in 2017, whereas Bourque went 30th in 2020.

So overall, I think Struble and Xhekaj should each have at least as much value as Mavrik Bourque, due to getting to the NHL faster, and their physicality as well as mobility. Both should be as good as Romanov at least. Romanov got us a 13th OA, I don't see why a Struble or Xhekaj can't get a similar value - Harris a bit less.

A lot of those accounts are just natural dummies.

Jets have the Habs 2nd

Completely forgot about him? Because he's not a NHLer or even an AHLer? The amount of silly in this fake rumor is just obvious. I'd rather get a 2nd period with no one else of this caliber. Less management on the amount of contracts we have to give.

Isn't the same site that came up with the silly Buchnevich-Anderson ''rumor''?

The Jets' 1st will be very late this year.
So you want to give a 2nd and Barron to go from 40ish to 25ish?
I'm not a fan of Barron but that seems like a lot.

I might be wrong but i don't think you have to add anything to get that late first for Monahan.

It seems like the Leafs are doubling down on Matthews, Marner and Nylander. There are no Tkachuk’s available. They’re essentially doing what we did during the Price era only with forwards. I don’t see it ending well for them. They have to many holes.

Tkachuk has available in July 2022. Pretty sure Calgary would have taken Marner wayyyy before Huberdeau.

Marner for Tkachuk could have been a win win for both teams.

They don't want to seem to give up quality forwards. More patch it up until injuries return.

Hmm. A 2nd round pick from the Jets is basically a late late 2nd. Not sure why we would insist in Vesalainen?
Maybe we get our 2nd back?
