Oilers need G desperately... Habs have 3 on NHL roster... Deal feels inevitable.

Option 1 (Allen)
To Edm
Allen, Kovacevic

To Mtl
Holloway, Skinner
-------------------------------

Option 2 (Monty)
To Edm
Monty, Kovacevic

To Mtl
Holloway, Skinner, Edm 2nd
-------------------------------
I think that it's Campbell that has to go, probably to the minors because he's basically untradable.
They need 2 decent goalies.

To EDM:
Jake Allen (50% retained)
Justin Barron
Michael Pezzetta

To MTL:
Cody Ceci
Dylan Holloway
Olivier Rodrigue
2024 1st (top 10 protected)

It's basically Allen for Holloway, who lost a lot of value since being drafted. He's a nice reclamation project for MSL.
The Habs have to take a cap dump in Ceci to make it work.
Barron replaces Ceci in their line-up.
Their 2024 1st has a good probability of being in the 17-20 range now. I think Barron + taking on Ceci is fair value for it.
EDM clear about 1.5M in the process. That cap space will become very valuable come deadline time.

I think trading Monty makes more sense. He is a pending UFA and we will need someone to mentor Primeau and the other young G's next year. I'm not sold on giving Monty a long or expensive contract.

Jake Allen is not the solution for EDM. They need a #1 not an other #2 that is not really better than what they have. Look at the numbers, Allen is not better then those guys in the past seasons
Look at the numbers this year.
Skinner is 71st in the league for Goals Saved Above Expected. Campbell is 63rd.
Allen is 12th.

EDM need help NOW to save their season.
They can't just wait and hope their goalies turn it around.
They can't waste another of their top player's prime years.
McDavid is losing patience and looks exasperated by their goalies' performances.

Where will they find a top #1 at this time?

like your idea, but don't see EDM giving to get a Allen. they need solid defense I think

The real problem with Edmonton is that they will want to dump Campbell back without paying for it. His contract is worth 1st++ to absorb without sending equal money back.

Habs can absorb Campbell, but that's another $5m+ deadweight contract on the roster, so meh.

No way I would even consider taking Campbell. That's 3-4 more years of dead dead weight. I wouldn't even want him in Laval. It would literally have to be a really big +++++

Think they’d like to keep Monty but I think I’d be down for a Monty for Halloway swap.

Just not worth it. Ceci is a 3rd pairing player. Holloway and Rodrique aren't high enough of prospects to make up for taking on big money and bad players. The 1st is nice but not enough to close this deal. Throw in the fact we're giving up JB and Kovacop, it just can't be done. Just my opinion of course.

Only way they can dump Campbell without paying for it is to take an equal atrocious contract back.

Ceci is a cap dump. We don't really want him but MTL has to take salary back to make it work. Foegele could work too.
I'm not the biggest Barron fan, so that's why i want him traded before he loses all value. I don't see him fitting long term. But maybe that's just me.

There's no Kovacop in my proposal, whatever that is...lol

Rodrigue is a throw in, to make space for Campbell in the AHL. And we could use a goalie in Laval.

Apologies, I thought I saw Kova in the trade, maybe it was somebody else's proposal.

Even so, we can't eat 50% of Allen and add Barron to get a cap dump, a throw in, a B prospect and a 1st. Just not enough coming our way to help Edmonton out. They are the ones needing to bend over a little, we need to take advantage of that situation. Nothing crazy, but is should definitely favour us.

Price and Montembeault for Campbell and a 1st?
The only way i see Campbell traded to MTL is if Gallagher is going the other way.
EDM could actually use Gally's leadership and character.

I'm not sure the Habs are willing to do that though.
And Campbell has a NTC.

I'm not sure EDM's fans would agree with that. Or Vachon...lol

It all depends how much you value Holloway and Barron, i guess.

Keep talking about Allen going to Edmonton, but the guy has a 7 team NTC. That means there’s a 99% chance they are the Canadian teams + Arizona.

Montembeault makes more sense to me. He has some upside, he only makes $1 million, so his cap hit is manageable, and he needs a new contract this summer which would not be smart to do from a Habs perspective.

If it was a 7 Canadian teams + Arizona NTC then he wouldn't have signed two contracts with a mediocre/bad Canadian team.

Like a lot of players, once he was here, he liked it. A lot of these guys just want to settle and stay somewhere for longer than one year. He got to play with Carey Price and he gets to be a mentor.

Sorry but when your NTC is specifically 7 teams, there’s a very obvious reason.

We are not getting Jack Campbell. Come on guys.
Amusingly, I think there is way more chance that the Habs get paid to take Campbell's awful contract, than Habs trade any none-UFA this season. Kent Hughes has no issue trading the Habs cap space.

That premise makes no sense. He liked it in Montreal, but wouldn't like it any other Canadian market + Arizona? Because he gets to be a "mentor"?

Inferring that because a lot of players will put Canadian teams and Arizona on NTC lists means that a 7 team NTC on a Canadian team means its 6 Canadian teams + Arizona is one hell of a leap.
