They gave for charriot . So please don’t say never when it involves nhl gm’s …. Some of the very talented ones might make you look very bad lol
I don't understand how people don't learn lol.

Chiarot was never worth a first. But GMs are dumb so value goes out the window.

Especially big heavy D with playoff experience. Those will make most GMs salivate lol

i wasn't serious about next season. That said i am one of the few that would keep and re-sign him for 3 seasons. The guy is a positive addition to this young roster, he plays well, wins face offs....I don't care he was injured a lot in the past, past is nothing else then past
Injuries and father time definitely care about past!

I love Monahan too but 3 years is too much for me. Especially with his injury history. Also depends on what he could fetch at TDL. If he can net us a decent 1st I'd trade him in a heartbeat without looking back.

But no doubt has he been amazing for us. We saw how bad we were when he got injured last year. Guy is a beast and really stabilizes the whole lineup. Great for the kids....and of course the vets too!!!

GMs are also “workers” who have to execute a mandate or risk losing their jobs. Many times those trades are done because their boss’s (owner) mandate is playoff revenue is a must

GMs are not some independent republic that can do what they want, take as much time as they want while only looking through a hockey ops prism

The team has over 8,7 millions of capspace right now with Price on the in season LTIR.

Unlike "normal" free cap space, the amount of space won't increase going into the trade deadline since it is related to LTIR, so it makes no sense not using it early/right now to take bad 1 year contracts from other teams.

Mantha + 2nd + 3rd for future considerations? More?

Not all of them but I get your point.

For some teams sure like CGY and WPG. Not all owners are like that though. For example I don't think Zito was being pressured by ownership to trade a 1st+ for Ben chiarot.

Thats most recent trade I can think of but it happens every year. GMs get confident and overpay.

Dawson Mercer for Guhle or Xhekaj would be painful but probably worth it
I like Xhekaj but it may make sense to trade from positional strength, a D for C. Mercer is barely 22 and averages over 20 goals per season already? If he is available due to a 6 game scoring slump, jump on it.

If you recall Panthers owner (Vinny Viola) was making public comments about the importance of Fla that season to make “noise in the playoffs” - if an owner is saying that publicly, it’s clear messaging to their hockey ops.

I agree, he didn’t tell his GM to go get Chiarot but once a GM has a gun to his head all bets are off w survival mode kicking in

Go after Batherson and Mercer who are being screwed over by their coaches.

He is playing with garbage.

Kent wont move for a deal that would involve a Mercer this year.

he is building space for next years UFA season
my guess

Get Morgan Frost.

Don't see Frost as having more potential than Roy or Heineman, who are on ELCs, not at $2.1M. Pass.

Batherson is signed for 4 years at almost $5M - that's a serious commitment. What will he cost in trade assets? Does Hughes feel Batherson will be a top 6 player?

Mercer is a guy who it might make sense to after if his next contract can be in the Dach range.

So who are all these Russian players lining up dying to play in Mtl? Yes, Markov & Kovalev - former was comfortable here but he was an anomaly, latter bolted once another team offered more $ (Sens).

Radulov only signed because no one else would guarantee him a contract (Wings were the only other team to explore a contract), and once he got the chance at UFA he took Stars identical offer (higher take home $)

If McGuire & Gord Miller are to be believed, Panarin was given a larger offer than NYR but would even meet w Habs.

The part in parentheses is urban legend.

Duvernay-Tardif's agent, on a radio talk show addresing that question, already showed that Montreal could have structured the contract where Radulov would have had a higher take home with Montreal.

Radulov might have liked the warm weather better...

...and the better odds of winning a Cup in Dallas.

Kent Hughes just loves facilitating trades to improve other Eastern Conference teams. It's like he's into GMing on Hard Mode when he hasn't finished the tutorial levels yet.
WTF are you babbling about?

Question of trying to go with homeruns without having to empty a position to try to fill another one. Mostly why the Habs have been average all these years....when they acquired somebody, they emptied one place to fill another one. Frost is also a centerman.

he’s a beast and stabilize the whole lineup, as you said. that’s why i would re-sign him for a 3 seasons deal. He will sign for less if it’s a 3 years deal and slowly, you give more responsibilities to our young guns.
At that point, he will be a role player and a mentor for the kids

We are contender with him right now… You trade him to a contender and try to sign him as a UFA.

I’m not sore about the UFA market. Hughes and Gorton have been pretty clear thatbUFA signings are expensive and for players on the back half of their careers.

It seems as though they’ve been stock piling picks and prospects for large trade(s) next offseason. That’s more inline with comments they’ve made and strategy they’ve been using.

I play NHL 23 and one thing I always do is acquire Colton Dach and Ryan Suzuki.
So much fun having multiple brother lines.
Makes me wonder if we could ever pry Ryan Suzuki away from Carolina. Carolina GM didn't like Bergevin maybe Hughes can make it work? Norlinder and a 2nd for Suzuki? (One can dream)

Ryan is always injured. Nick must be using some Voodoo there.
