HuGo really have to do something unless they want to throw the season. Whether it's Joseph, Pinto. Mantha, Mon Oncle Antoine, Bonhome Septheure, the members of the 1975 Denver Broncos. Fat Steven Seagle or the former President of the Banana Republic.

I would give another crack at O'Reilly if the Ducks are interested.
O'Reilly is a Predator.

I’d be shocked if Anthony Mantha isn’t acquired at some point. Washington has tried to find a fit for him before with little interest league wide, but with Dach done for the year, this is the kind of move Hughes likes to make.

I’d propose -

To Montreal: Anthony Mantha, Ryan Leonard

OR

To Montreal: Anthony Mantha, Ivan Miroshnichenko

To Washington: Montreal Canadiens 3rd round pick 2024 (acquired from the Minnesota Wild)

Squeeze them hard if they’re looking to go on a cup run. I’d prefer Leonard personally as he’s a Center and looks to be an elite one potentially.
Yeah right, no way they move Leonard that cheap.

It’s not necessarily about players being unsigned. Could be someone like Monahan who was signed but his team weighed the opportunity cost of moving him.
That's an interesting thought. We should scan to see the most Cost Per Point and find cost-ineffective players.

The issue is not him not being his "client" but trading within the division with the senators.
Ottawa had no issue trading DeBrindcat to Detroit, Zibanejad to the Rangers, etc. This in-division/in-conference thing is only used as an excuse to protect the Habs GM for not doing good things. I don't believe it is a reasonable excuse to have trotted out every single time the Habs GM fails to deliver.

Now -- is Hughes failing to deliver when it comes to Shane Pinto? Of course not.

Pinto, like Lafreniere, will leave me disappointed in Hughes if he's traded for cheap.

I'm reminded of when Bergevin failed to acquire Teuvo Terevainen.

Pinto wouldn't really be cheap. If he's dealt, the team is taking the contracts the sens want to move on from with them.

Laf might be a deadline deal.

Bergevin failed to do a lot of things.

Sens aren't trading Pinto, they are still trying to sign him to a 1 year contract they can fit on the roster by sending down someone else.

So Ylonen or RHP
Dvorak at 50% retention
Barron
2nd round draft pick
2nd round draft pick

For

Pinto and Joseph
Barron, 2nd, Ylonen for Pinto feels like enough imo

Dvo retained, 2nd for Joseph is added value for the sens that feels like overkill, not sure anyone beats the offer without these added pieces

To further talk about Joseph.

I think be would be interesting on a line with CC and Suzuki. His speed would allow him to forecheck for them. He's not big, but he's not small. He's got the skill to finish and to do basic plays to help out the other two. He's also very reliable defensively, so he could take that pressure off of CC and he's better defensively than Anderson.

Every time I think of it, doing a deal like this is a no-brainer.

OTT isn’t moving Pinto futur and they don’t have any space for any salary…

Joseph+Kubalik+2024 1st for 4th round pick.

Ottawa clear 5.5M$ Joseph can be a bottom 6, Kubalik can help PP2 and could be flip at the TDL we had a 1st, there might be a better use on 5.5M$…

Caps must be seeing the writing on the wall, they're trending down, they won't trade Mantha and add anything, I think they'll eat the hit and keep the picks.

Such trades don't happen because most GMs aren't Dumb AF

You ain't getting Pinto for scraps and 2nds, assuming they had no choice but to trade him they'd probably ask for Beck and a 1st or maybe a Mailloux/Trudeau type of prospect

Ok, Beck and Trudeau.

There's so many interesting pieces that are seemingly available for cheap or outright given away right now:

- Garland
- Kubalik/Joseph/Brannstrom and maybe even Pinto
- Girard/Manson (at the end of the season most likely)
- Mantha
- Pesce

I would hope HuGo is actively involved in any trade going on, if anything just by being the third team that takes a contract dump for picks. If we're tanking again this season, might as well stock up on picks.

I’m sure Hughes is plugged in to any and every possible deal out there. Just a matter of which makes the most sense and when it will happen.

We're well positioned to facilitate a cap stretched team trying to create cap space, so it's certainly in our favour to move sooner than later if cap room is what we will leverage to boost the return...

But I wonder if Hughes is focused on/holding out to get a 1st out of it, or if he's more interested in getting a D+1-3 prospect back instead :dunno:

From a cap and value perspective it makes more sense to wait as more teams get desperate and need to make moves. So unless there’s a team desperate to move sooner than later, I image it’ll be a while before they make a deal.

As for what they want, Hughes has said he prefers prospects to picks but in image he’ll do what he’s done in the past and take the best deal available. He’s shown he’s willing to take both but it’s harder for teams to deal more developed prospects they like than a draft pick they haven’t made yet. Just my 2 cents.
