Begs the question about how Hughes will deal with the extra cap room from placing Dach on LTIR.

Another Monahan type trade for a first rounder?
I’d be shocked if Anthony Mantha isn’t acquired at some point. Washington has tried to find a fit for him before with little interest league wide, but with Dach done for the year, this is the kind of move Hughes likes to make.

I’d propose -

To Montreal: Anthony Mantha, Ryan Leonard

OR

To Montreal: Anthony Mantha, Ivan Miroshnichenko

To Washington: Montreal Canadiens 3rd round pick 2024 (acquired from the Minnesota Wild)

Squeeze them hard if they’re looking to go on a cup run. I’d prefer Leonard personally as he’s a Center and looks to be an elite one potentially.

Kane won't sign with Crapitals, he wants to win not win the lottery.
Mantha sucks - they better attach a 1st if they want to move him.
I expect Buf to throw a ridiculous offer his way but suspect he’s going to Avs or heading back to NYR

Washington will never trade Leonard or any other prime prospect to move Mantha with less than 1 year left on his deal.

HuGo really have to do something unless they want to throw the season. Whether it's Joseph, Pinto. Mantha, Mon Oncle Antoine, Bonhome Septheure, the members of the 1975 Denver Broncos. Fat Steven Seagle or the former President of the Banana Republic.

I would give another crack at O'Reilly if the Ducks are interested.

What would it cost to get Pinto from the sens.. Beck ++, it would be a nice move to replace Dach this year and add a new guy from that draft.

Why?
They aren't dying to make the playoffs or contend.
This season was gonna be thrown one way or another already.

Having said that, wouldn’t it be something if Habs were to sign Kane w promise he’d be traded to contender at deadline?

How does that trade help Sens make noise in playoffs THIS YEAR?

Obviously something needs to give before end Nov / early Dec (?) or Pinto can’t play for this season is not mistaken.

With strong start Sens have all leverage and can sit back, unless Pinto’s willing to sit it out. I still can’t see Sens dealing him, but let’s assume they would be willing…. what do the Habs have the Sens covet other than Caufield?

Dorion needs to make the playoffs, Dvorak & Savard aren’t the answers I don’t think
If I was Dorion I would be wortied abot trading either Kubalik or Joseph and they have no room for Pinto. Beck would give them a nice 3rd center next year and a pick could be added. While they could benefit a guy like Savard they do not have the cap space for him.

I do not think they will need help to make the playoff this year and think they would have a hard time fitting Pinto next year under the cap. This gives them a bit a flexibility without destroying the core of this team.

It is tough to admit, but trading for PLD instead of Dach at the draft, or trading Dach + for PLD this summer was a no brainer move

I believe there is too much downside to trading for a high profile French player that Hughes and Gorton avoided it. If PLD failed in Montreal it would have been worse optics than if Dach fails, because the fans would say they overpaid for a French guy and what not. That's why I don't really expect a Laf trade unless it is for dirt cheap, like Harris + a 3rd or something.

There was a time last summer when Chantal said that she advised Hughes against being a 3rd party team in a deal for a high profile French player, because the fans would be upset that we were involved in the deal but he wasn't traded to Montreal. I'm sure it wasn't PLD, but most the likely Huberdeau deal, and the Habs would have retained salary on his contract in the transaction.

Pinto would be good, but I don’t see it happening…..I would be fine giving Monahan the ice time there and trying to boost his value.

Dach is turning out to be a blunder. The curse of the Habs GM continues. Whatever they do, it goes straight to the gutter.

Just throw the season away, continue drafting.

I am not sure why some think that this is a playoff team. For that 1% chance we had went out the window when Dach is gone for the year.Hugo has to just keep doing what they are doing .The rebuild continues.Let the kid's play and pick up more draft capital and or prospects if possible.

They may not, but if they’re wanting to contend this year - or want to load up to get Ovechkin the record? Mantha has already been a healthy scratch this year, and his salary going out would allow their GM to make some moves.

I just don't want them to take on bad habits like it happened with the young Oilers where they became too used to losing.

No way do I move engstrom for a bust like turcotte
Not so sure that Turcotte won't bounce back and become a solid NHLer... If he can ever stay healthy.

But certainly agree that I wouldn't move Engstrom for him, let alone add :m-shocked:

I think their 1st is much more likely to be dangled than Leanord. Point of moving him would be that they feel they can add some immediate help to get into the playoffs... Would seem pointless if they weren't confident they won't end up with a high lottery pick again

Let's get a other project.
Caufield's buddy.

LA: Turcotte
for
MTL : Engstrom + Farrell + 3rd 2024 (Wild)
Bro Farrell is better… And then you add Engstrom lmao. Proof that for some individuals, grass always seems greener elsewhere

Another ridiculous proposal. Turcotte is crap. And Turcotte will never stay healthy. See Dach, Guhle, Glass (perfect name), Vilardi etc.
