Turcotte is resurrecting his career now.

He looked great during preseason and now looking great playing in AHL.

I believe he will get his chance to play for Kings this season.

If Montreal wants to trade for him, they need to propose something Kings really need.

LA do not need any forwards or defenders.

Their only need is really good young goalie.

I do not believe Montreal has this for trade.

LA and Montreal are not good trading partners at the moment…
I am not going to pretend that I know everything about LA (players, prospects) but they seem pretty good currently in the middle with Kopitar, Dubois and Danault. On the wing they are also good but a bit weaker in term of experienced players. I hope for Turcotte and his career that he can salvage his potential with your team but at the same time it seems like inevitable (at least in the near future) that he won't be able to play top 6. Now about trading partner, I kind of get your point but I believe your are forgetting one important aspect, your team could be challenging for the cup (even if sometime as fans we don't believe it) and every GM will do all in their power to have the most complete team comes playoff time. Like we did with Colorado when we traded Lehkonen to them for Barron+ picks, without that trade I don't think Colorado would have won the cup. There are still a lot of hockey to be played but if comes trade deadline the LA kings believe they can challenge for it, I highly doubt they would not be interested to bring in more depth from experienced players upfront and on defense.

I want them to send a message to the young guys by getting rid of Wideman as soon as possible, either send him to the AHL when healthy or trade him for future considerations to a team who will use him in the AHL, I want them to shake up the room.

Being a nice guy doesn't guarantee you a spot in the NHL. He is kept around just to party with the young guys.

I filtered for bad-value players with contracts expiring this summer, that we could take on during Dach's injury since we're tanking.
I excluded players from flat-out bad teams, and players on LTIR à la Bryan Little because their negative impact has already been mitigated.
I didn't bother checking below Kubalik (salary filter), a player from a team that needs urgent cap space and would still probably not spend an asset that we would consider valuable enough.

My conclusion is that I don't think we can get much by renting our cap space for 2023-2024 only.
Mayyyybe for Mantha and/or Roslovic if their team is desperate to target the wildcard spot in Jan.
Marchessault would at least make the team interesting again if the price is low, and assuming Vegas continues with their habit of shunning their MVPs.

I concur with your assessment; besides the UFAs-to-be you list as potential cap dump/casualties, the only other meaningful (>2M AAV) candidates I could identify were Brodie and, even less likely, Barrie.

In any event, unfortunately no Monahan+1st redux on the horizon for the Habs.

And with only one salary retention remaining - most likely required to extract value from Pearson or a 3-way deal at TDL - ironically not much room for the Habs to flex their cap muscle despite a frozen cap season in which quite a few teams don’t even have the flexibility to call up a player.

Edit: Looking at 2025 UFAs who fit the same criteria as a suboptimal potential 2-year cap casualty, there’s not much there either… Faksa (3.25M) maybe?

For me, the obvious name on that list is Mantha.

There's rumors that Washington is one of the teams interested in trading for Garland.
It will difficult for them to add him unless they get rid of Mantha.
Vancouver wants to clear some cap space so they won't take Mantha in return.
There's also rumors that a third team is involved, and it makes sense.

There's not many teams able to take on Mantha's contract.
I wouldn't be surprised if Montreal is involved.
I think the price for getting rid of Mantha is high at the moment. Probably a 1st. Not sure the Caps are willing to do that though..
They might be willing to take back a guy like Armia in return instead of giving back important assets. Enough cap space would be cleared for them this year to add Garland (retained at 30%, according to rumors).

Apparently Vancouver wants a D in return for Garland. Colombus might be a better fit since they have some available.
But if Washington are in talks, they must at least have a plan to get rid of Mantha.

I think TJ Brodie is another candidate.
If the Leafs want to sign Patrick Kane, like rumored, or want to upgrade their D, there are not many candidates other than him.

Kubalik is the other obvious one.
Joseph too, but the way he's playing right now, i think he will be difficult to trade optics wise.

I wouldn't worry about this too much. Wideman was going to the AHL if not for the injury.

why would they send him to the AHL? Laval has already too many D on the team and they have to rotate them out. Add him to the mix means less ice time for the young D to develop. Keep him with the team... 8th D, press box, and who cares if he's not playing??

Roster spot. When he is active from IR, we got to make moves in the 23 man roster limit. If you are not sending Wideman to the AHL when he is off of IR, who are you sending instead?

I guess Dach is moved to LTIR so that frees up a spot. You're going to carry 8 D, 12F, and 3G?

I believe the extra spot is saved for Dvorak and not sure how long we are going to carry 3G. Our roster maneuvering is not done yet.

It was interesting to see him in management's box last game instead of with the other injured/scratched players...

He might stay as a 7th D, if he ever recovers. I don't think they'll keep Barron out of the line up for too long if there's no other injuries (when Guhle returns).

Chris Wideman: "My wife gets comments on her Instagram posts like "your husband f***ing sucks"... I've been getting league minimum for like 10 seasons, you think we don't know that I f***ing suck"

A nice and funny guy but by his own account sucks at hockey.

He is kept around because he is great friends with Caufield and the other young guys, not because he brings anything to the table.

Habs players have also joked about him making deals with the other team so they don't hit him during games. It just isn't the kind of player I want on the team or even in the press box, I want warriors who care about team success, not just guys who are happy to be in the NHL and are willing to fake an injury to stay up with their friends.

If I’m HuGo, I’m completely focused on Buf - Sabres have reached the point of having to make the playoffs this year or at least do everything possible to qualify for post season.

Sabres have zero collective defensive awareness and need an experienced 3C & veteran D. That need may get to desperation if they’re still sucking wind in 4-weeks IMO.

Would anyone here take a flyer on Kessel for a year at league minimum? He still wants to play. Powerplay specialist. Good role model. Thoughts?
The only has been vet I'd consider taking is from another team who adds a 1st to the deal to take the contract. No additions otherwise unless it comes with a bonus. This team is not competing for anything other then a bottom 3 finish.

Been saying that for weeks, their D is pedestrian
Especially if Guhle is back soon-ish, we have to propose a D for fwd prospect swap

I could see knies going into the Dach / Newhook / Category eventually, which defence prospect would you guys trade for him if you had to choose

I really want Shane Pinto and would overpay. Fits the direction of the team well.

make it happen HuGo.
Obviously something needs to give before end Nov / early Dec (?) or Pinto can’t play for this season is not mistaken.

With strong start Sens have all leverage and can sit back, unless Pinto’s willing to sit it out. I still can’t see Sens dealing him, but let’s assume they would be willing…. what do the Habs have the Sens covet other than Caufield?

Dorion needs to make the playoffs, Dvorak & Savard aren’t the answers I don’t think

They need a leader.
A hero.
Someone to will them into the playoffs.
His name...

Is Gallagher.
