They have to retain on 1 of Armia/Allen/Gally and move them, just gotta figure out which 1.. if they can retain 2M on Gally and move him it would be worth it.

I think they can swap contracts for Armia and Allen because they only have 1+ season left (after this 1). Could just waive whoever they get afterwards.

Even with the Habs retaining $2 million on Gallagher’s contract (which would give him a 4 year $4.5 million contract) they would most likely have to give up a 1st and maybe more to trade him.

obv i wouldn't move a 1st, it could end up being a high pick but we have enough prospects/young players to make it enticing for someone (Kidney/Farrell/Barron etc)

Gally still has good analytics so who knows, worse players/contracts were moved

It would have to be a better prospect than that I suspect. It took a 2nd to trade Bailey and Petry this off-season and Gallagher’s contract situation is worse. I can’t see Gallagher being traded, the Habs may elect to buy his contract out in future off-seasons.

well we can nitpick on stuff like this endlessly, Matt Murray was pretty terrible/had a really bad contract/played in the AHL and Ottawa managed to dump him just for a 3rd without taking anything back

I fully understand people's concerns about Zegras. He might be one of those all flash no substance guys, and looks like he might be more interested in being a celebrity than a Stanley Cup winner. I also have concerns about how an attitude like that can spread in a locker room.

However, I would still try to trade for him:
1) The Habs appear to have a strong enough team culture to mitigate his attitude (notably MSL, Suzuki, and Zegras' friend Caufield)
2) Habs should be trying to compete next season, which might change his focus
3) Habs are in a position that almost any 'quantity for quality' trade is worth it, they have too much depth and not enough high end talent
4) Even if he's not the perfect player to add to the mix, it puts the Habs in a position to be able to pay a more premium price if the perfect asset does ever become available

Trade Allen to TB
For?
Try coming up with a trade that keeps them cap compliant, where we do not use our last valuable retention spot and do not end up with 3 contracts more to make it happen.

Tampa will likely go after a lower cap hit option. A Martin Jones on waiver or a Halak at league minimum.

Assuming they all hit their potential. Bolded are core guys that I would not trade:

Caufield - Suzuki - Roy
Newhook - Dach - Slaf

That's a pretty good top 6. Not the best but pretty good.

Bottom 6 I got:
Heineman - Beck - RHP
Mysak - Davidson - Xhekaj (Florian)

I think that's good.

And then on D:

Guhle - Reinbacher
Hutson - Mailloux
Trudeau - Engstrom
Xhekaj

This is pretty stacked and could easily be top 5 when they all mature.

These guys that have value I would for sure trade at some point:
- Monahan
- Savard
- Matheson
- Anderson
- mesar
- Barron
- Kovacevic
- Harris
- Farrell

We'd also have to trade at least one of our D. Anyone between:
- Hutson
- Mailloux
- Engstrom
- Xhekaj
- Trudeau

Then you have all the rest of em that aren't worth as much but good for add ons. As well as all our draft picks including 1sts. And the current roster players that aren't bolded

With ALL this on the table, I'd be rely curious to see what trades we could swing and what kind of players Hugo would be targeting. The assets are most definitely there to make a big trade or two.

I'd give away some picks and someone like Ylonen to take Jeannot off their hands and swap Allen. He's exactly what we need to help Arber in the truculence department.

Well Rangers have pretty much given up on Laf. Of course, he's largely to blame, but I never saw how he could overtake Kreider and Panarin as the LW when he's on the 3rd line. I would be interested to see how he'd do with Suzuki and CC assuming he's cheap.

Laf-Suzuki-CC
Newhook-Dach-Anderson
Slaf-Dvorak-Monahan
RHP-Evans-Pearson/Gallagher

So Habs should pull a Laf on Slaf?

Too bad we have too many forwards. Samuel Fagemo has been put on waivers by LAK. He's scored a combined 50 goals last 2 years in AHL.

Really good shooter, although another righty.
Trade for him if he clears?

If he's that good, he's probably going to be taken by one of the teams in front of the Habs in the waiver claim order.

Just like Lassi Thompson that had a few people saying the Habs should claim him. He was taken by Anaheim who have first claim rights on waivers until November (It think it's November where it start using the current season rankings).
