Petterson will F?%$ up our cap space, no thx.
Rather draft a top 5 in 2024

Like Gordon said you have to draft these guys,
If we are lucky we might put our hands on Catton or Demidov or Helenius

Keep the paste !!
Gorton wouldn't know anything about drafting a player like Petterson. You get a chance to acquire a talent like EP, you don't worry about F?$%$ cap space, this isn't a Tavares situation. This is a 24/25 BEAST were talking about here.
I know we won't get him. but let's not act like it's because were worried about cap space lol

would you guys like having Seth Jones ?

I mean pretty good RHD

CHI : Jones at 8mil (1.5mil retained)
for
MTL : Dvorak + Barron + 2nd pick 2025
I have serious trouble following your logic buddy.

So Pettersson at 10-12M range will screw up our cap space, despite lacking elite talent at forward, but comitting 8M on a pretty good RHD is A-OK despite having a plethora of D in the pipeline.

...OK:huh:

if im EP signing a 8 year deal and looking at contending and winning cups im looking at teams like Anaheim,Columbus,Buffalo and Montreal who will have a solid roster for most of my new contract

Habs have a solid future on def and some nice pieces on offense but need that #1 center elite talent EP would make us a very solid team in 2/3 years
Yeah….no. If he’s going to pick a destination, it’ll be NYC, Miami, LA or Ana.

Swedes have had an affinity for Van going back a long time, I doubt EP leaves Nucks, they’ll throw a boatload of $$ his way

Hell no! Another D is the last thing to burn cap and assets on. Take the 8M and trade for a forward or sign one as a UFA when the timing is right. Chicago would love to unload that contract as they won't be competing any time during his peak years.

my comments are in response to the notion that the Habs will be Cup Contenders for five years. I don’t think that’s something I agree with, not at this time anyway.

We have to acquire Petterssons and such when they’re available in order to push our team to that level. Bergevin never did. Hughes seems to be into it, let’s see.
Sure, that is how it was meant. With Pettersson on the team, we could be contending for 5 years. Not without elite 1C.

Without that contract they don't even make the cap floor.

We could switch Price the other way :sarcasm:

For the record, I don't want Jones. I just found it funny that Chicago went full Scorched Earth, so they overpaid some vets on UFA last July just to make the cap floor but Jones's contract is the only thing keeping them above the floor in reality.

Not difficult to make the cap floor. Sign a few veterans to flip at the deadline and you are there. Too bad Hughes was saddled with so many contracts nobody wanted, or Montreal could of been doing the same, during a rebuild when you are trying not to compete and bank assets.

A few vets don't make 60 millions.

they have more than 50 millions next season why move him if they don't need the space.

You are 25 and signing a big 8 year contract. Would you pick Boston when you know they can compete next couple seasons or would you pick Habs when you wait one more year and you will get 5 years of being a true contender_
Not sure Boston will compete for anything this year, other than a playoff spot.............bubble team for me.......just my 2 cents.
Thinking they are going to come back to the pack big time...................their first round loss was epic and it is the end for them......

I mean Dvo would certainly help them get back to being contenders. Bergeron light. :sarcasm:

Posted less than an hour apart.
Spectacular.

It would be very interesting if Boston picks up Pettersson and continues on, going from strength to strength.

Or maybe the Rangers. They don’t shy away from doing what it takes to improve the team.
This and maybe on the side of Pattersson Boston and NR are more interresting, he might beleive more in those teams than the Habs.

If we’re getting Joseph, I hope we’re able to pick up Jesus and Mary as well, because we will need them for any chance to get Pettersson.

I’d seriously look at getting Pinto from the Sens though (if he’s indeed available). There’s a kid that has all the tools to be a terrific Center - size, speed, scoring.

No reason for Sens to trade Pinto. They wil do all they can to free up some $$$ under te cap to keep him.

Guhle+Newhook+pick is a great starting package for EP if Vancouver fancys those players. I's be willing to add another D prospect in the process to get a center line of:

EP
Suzy
Dach

I mean wow right?

As much as I like him we gotta factor in Guhle next contract which could look like Sanderson... With our LD depth, it would be the logical one to move ala Romanov.

journalist Stu Cowan noted a rather interesting clue during the match between the Canadian and the Devils on Monday evening. Surprisingly, Pat Verbeek would have sent his right-hand man, Rob DiMaio, who serves as assistant general manager, to attend the CH meeting.

If scouts regularly attend different games to evaluate players, it is quite curious to see that the assistant general manager traveled in person for this game.

Still, Rob DiMaio's presence can be seen as a strange coincidence, especially given recent speculation linking Trevor Zegras ' name to the Canadiens.
