Anderson's name is out there but probably not for a 1st and/or prospect or whatever we would usually get. I think if they move him, he will be part of a bigger trade to get something we target.

Not while the cap is what it is.. when the cap goes up, he suddenly becomes a valuable commodity for a contender again without f***ing their cap structure.

In the 2025 offseason, Josh Anderson will be turning 32 and will have two more seasons left on his 5.5M contract. By then, the Cap should have gone up tangibly and be projected to go up even higher.

Montreal will have two 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks, two 3rd round picks and two 4th round picks at the 2025 draft. Matheson should have elevated his game more consistently by then, while younger talented chomp at the bit to leave their own mark at the NHL level.

All those assets should provide ammunition for Hughes to acquire young, but meaningful players to complete the roster that ought to be much more competitive come playoff time.

I agree with everything here. Expect Anderson's age. He'll be age 31 in the 2025 offseason. He's 32 in the last year of his deal. May birthdate.

If we trade him with two seasons left, it will be his age 31 and 32 seasons. I think he ages well in this age range. His age 33+ contract would be the scary part.

23/24: 29
24/25: 30
25/26: 31
26/27: 32

Easily.

Especially if it's Detroit's.

Furthermore, Joseph has wheels, hits, pker, defensively responsible, not small at 6'1 and he's from Quebec.

Seems like an absolute no brainer.

My beliefe/hope is once the Habs get Price on in season LTIR they pull the trigger for him.

However, dealing a 1st in division might be a non starter for the sens, but that's honestly just a GM being a bitch, unless the cost to the Habs is the same as another team and there's no one going lower.

If the Habs ask for a 1st and a team out west asks for a 1st and another pick, or prospect, you better take the cheaper option

Being in the same division probably hurts the chances of being a player in this situation.

Especially when their new owner used to be part owner of the Habs. I doubt he wants to start this chapter by trading a first to his old team.

We’re also pretty strapped cap wise, which would have made that transaction hard.

I guess he’ll go to Chicago, Anaheim or Arizona.

I think you misunderstood. The Sens want a 1st for him. They're not dealing one to get rid of him. At least that's how I'm reading it.

We're bound to see a few defensemen traded over the next 12 months I feel like.
As far as current NHLers go, we have:
  • Matheson
  • Savard
  • Harris
  • Lindstrom
  • Guhle
  • Barron
  • Xhekaj
  • Kovacevic
  • Wideman
Then when it comes to guys that are likely going to be ready to make the jump in the few years we have:
  • Reinbacher
  • Mailloux
  • Hutson
  • Engstrom
  • Struble
  • Trudeau
Assuming Reinbacher and Hutson pan out, then that pretty much means guys like Trudeau, Struble, Engstrom, etc... will have a hard time ever getting an extended look with the Habs.

Habs going to trade d-man for forward at some point. I would play Harris a lot of minutes because he is most likely to be traded. Give him good stats.

Doubt there is any interest for Lindström and Wideman.

Anderson's value will probably drop as he ages.

If Anderson can continue his good play from last year and this training camp so far, and have a good season, I could see TDL this year and/or Summer 2024 being his peak trade value.

Having said that, because he's such a good skater, he may not decline rapidly like other big players do when they lose a step. He may still be quite good until 34 and even beyond.

Likely Hughes is talking up his value in these years by saying offers were good but they like the player. I'd guess he'll be moved within the next year or he's staying the full contract. He's reportedly a great guy in the room and other teams' players have reportedly stated they hate playing against him. The fans are the only one's who don't see his value.

I think people get too focused on what he could be with higher hockey IQ and don't appreciate he's a free at least 20-goal guy who wreaks havoc physically and creates space for whatever line he's on. He'd be a lot more loved if we actually had that superstar high skill forward on the roster already. I always thought the OIlers should have paid up for him, not that they have ever had any tradeable assets; he's a big dude who can shoot and is one of the only players in the league who can skate almost as fast as McDavid in a straight line. He'd be a much better fit for them than Evander Kane for example.
