Would you trade Slafkovski for Zegras?
Al l things being equal, I think Zegras is the more talented player with elite level skill. Slaf may develop into a higher level player but I think Zegras has the higher ceiling.

Personality wise, I think Slaf comes in with a much better attitude and fits what the Habs are trying to create.

So the answer is no.

Yeah, it seems that Hugues and Price already discussed the possibility of trading his contract.

Hugues planted the seed in the media via Lebrun at the GM's meeting.
I don't know if it was to mentally prepare the fans that it could happen or to broadcast to the league that he's open for business on Price. Or both.

But there's some smoke here.
that is why Price said "even if" he was traded he is still a hab

I would not trade Slafkovsky for Zegras. There is no point in that. I guess the value is there tho.

I would totally be ecstatic if we acquired Zegras tho. I'd totally offer our 24 1st RD for him and prospects not named Reinbacher or Hutson.

higher ceiling, i don’t think so.

Zegras is all flash. Not that much substance.

It’s fun and all but in the near future Slaf could show flash AND a much complete and physical game.

Considering big Slafkovsky supporters claim they’d be happy if Slaf ever becomes a 60-70pt player, refusing to trade him 1 for 1 for the immensely talented Zegras is plain hilarious

I encourage you to tell the general NHL commentariat that you wouldn’t trade Slafkovsky for Zegras, let’s see the response

I think it's the difference between creating points and leeching points. For example, Desharnais had a couple of 50-point seasons, but many players would have produced even more in the same minutes. Admittedly, I don't have a clear idea of how good Zegras is, but I hope that Slafkovsky becomes a meaningful 65+ point forward, and not a leecher.

However, if Zegras is so immensely talented, why didn't he play in the NHL at age 18?

;-)

Would be great if we could trade from depth and move a D in a Zegras package.

Ultimately Zegras would fit much better in a system favouring offence like the one MSL is implementing.

I'm not sure Zegras' offensive output will ever match his stickhandling/skating ability. Much like Kovy, a tremendously spectacular player that will leave you wanting more.

I take him on my team because he'd bring many things we are missing, but people are expecting Hughes to acquire THE guy and he's not THE guy.

But unless you draft THE guy or get very lucky off a trade (MSL), you simply can’t get THE guy… so you get “sometimes THE guy”

FWIW, Zegras also knows MSL and Hughes from a very young age

I agree, but I know this fan base well enough to know that Zegras wont be looked as the complimentary player that he is, but the guy who's supposed to carry the load.

That said, it's not like he'd come to play with Plekanec and Gionta. We have much better offensive talent to surround him with than those days.

Would you do Hutson +
I think I would. Zegras is a lot like Hutson, only up front at C. Zegras still has alot to do improving his game without the puck and defensively, overall, but his offensive creativity is off the charts, much like Hutson.

At C, Zegras is 6'0", 186 lbs.

Zegras would allows to potentially ice a lineup of:

Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
Slafkovsky - Zegras - Roy
Newhook - Beck - Anderson
RHP - Dvorak/Someone else - Heineman

Of course, it's all predicated on Slafkovsky and Roy panning out, but on paper, at least, this looks pretty darned good.

Zegras is the kind of player who sells ticket, which MTL does not need but not really sure he is the one winning games for you, which MTL needs.

IF Habs were to acquire Zegras, he plays with Caufield, they have a history playing together.

If the Habs are trading pieces like Hutson, Barron, 2024 unprotected 1st, etc, it needs to be for a gold plated forward as they can only go that once.

Think Elias Peterson, Clayton Keller, Kyle Connor, that sort of player. Great Western Conference forwards that might be available. Not sure if Zegras is at that level. Is he?

No, he's a level below.

Zegras is a fun player to watch but he's not really a top end player.
