This is flat out wrong. Looking at centers only off the top of my head. Stamkos 10th season JT Miller 10th season Elias Lindholm 8th season Connor McDavid 8th season all say HELLO.
You’re citing specific cases. We know based on statistics where players peak. There is nothing to suggest that he is an exception, hence why I say ‘very likely’.

The reasons have been stated. The major one is that he has played for a crap team so far. He should easily be capable of 15-20 more points.

The trend the last five years is for the majority of better players to keep improving in yrears 5 and 6 in the league.
Can you source stats on that? Genuinely curious if new data has come out.
Players aren’t even physically mature until 24-25. 24-28 are generally their peak years. Starts trailing off by then. Add in quality of linemates which also makes a material difference.
Cite me one study that shows 28 is still a peak offensive year for a player and I’ll eat my shoe.

I hope it’s a soft leather shoe. :sarcasm:

Our best estimate of the scoring peak age is between 27 and 28 for forwards and between 28 and 29 for defencemen. Both forwards and defencemen exhibit near-peak performance over a wide range, going from about 24 to 32 and 24 to 34, respectively.

Can you show these alleged stats? I bet there's a sample bias.

And we know they're not universal.

The ignorance of statistics from people who spout hockey stats like they're a law is astounding.

FYI just the Poisson noise on 64 points is ... 8 points.

I didn't even research this. I already knew about some of these guys because they were being compared to Suzuki who is still progressing. I looked up the following prolific scorers Yzerman Sakic Kane Thornton Gretzky. They all had their best production at 25 or older. Did you base your statement on Crosby Malkin and Ovechkin? I have to assume if you base your findings on the top 30% of the league the average age would be 26. I haven't even looked at defensemen who will rarely have their most productive season at 23. I really don't care about bottom 6 players they are irrelevant when talking production.

Last, best evidence that I encountered is that players reach their prime, on average, at around 24 and stay there for three years, as conventional wisdom has held for decades.

Most of the people who discuss "advanced" stats in hockey are inept at stats, they may not have used stats in any real world setting or even taken the second undergraduate course in stats, but they think they know everything.

I'm going to take a guess about this claim that players peak at 21 or whatever. It's a biased results that includes a lot of the busts, flameouts, and injured players such as Galchenyuk and Patrick O'Donnell and Marc Savard.

Obviously that could happen for Suzuki but it's not what we're hoping for.

Gallagher to SJ pls
