Can use the pick, or pick + to land a player that helps right now from elsewhere. a trade with Montreal would not be the end all to WIN's musings or situation.

Sure they can, but that still might not be what they are looking for in the end.
I mean, according to many, Anderson is worth a 1st +.....
According to many PLD would cost something along those lines.
That's an example.

Pacioretty was a 65-70 points guy that didn't get an actual 1st round pick in the return (Yes Suzuki was an ex-1st, but we do have some of that too). All I'm saying is that it's not a given that it would actually take that Florida pick to get him.

You said 'attempt', so, obviously, you knew it wouldn't work, right?

Agree. It might not.

Killorn be good UFA signing this summer. A left shot, 25 goal scorer with size and grit. Make a nice fit in Caufield line. At 34 he's not getting long term contract anywhere. Habs 2 years, 12 million be ideal.

He’s hitting his career high at age 33/34. Interesting but who knows how soon he will hit his decline.

If we sell Anderson I’d be all over hometown boy Alex Killorn on a front loaded deal that has him retire before it’s over. But so would many other teams.

After Hoffman, Armia, Dvorak, Gallagher, Anderson, Drouin,

Not only should we sign Killorn, but i think we should also be in Gustav Nyquist and Jason Zucker !

$6M for a 34-35 yo Killorn? No thank you.

Getting career highs playing for Tampa, does not equate to him getting anywhere close to that playing on this version of Canadiens.

Proposal:

Florida 1st plus Evans, Harris and Primeau for Swayman and 2023 2nd.

Boston is in a bit of a cap crunch and could use cost controlled players.

Habs giving up above-average depth players who nevertheless will not be part of a core-11.

Habs then trade Allen for a mid-round pick and sign Dichow and Vrbetic to get organizational depth and callup options.

A front-loaded deal would have to be overblown for him to retire before the end of the contract because the second year of a two-year contract can't be less than half of the first year.

So, a 12M total contract canMt be more than 8M in the first year and 4M in the 2nd year.

If he wanted to play one more year for 8M, fine...

Swayman isn't very good.. that's an extremely friendly goalie system in Boston.

That's too much to give up for Swayman.

Nobody would take Allen for free right now. And why are people so anxious to do something that involves getting rid of that Florida first round pick. We need prospects, not another backup goalie. We had basically nothing to sell this year so we need every prospect we can get.

Hughes has already said no UFA signings this summer, and hopefully he stays true to that. We need to move players as it is. Stay out of it.

Even if we do nothing but re-sign RFAs, and let UFAs walk (except Laval's captain), we still have too many signed players for next year.

Heineman - Suzuki - Caufield
Slafkovsky - Dach - Anderson
Hoffman - Dvorak - Gallagher
RHP - Evans - Armia
Ylonen, Pezzetta

Pitlick waived
Gurianov traded, or not qualified
Farrell AHL

Matheson - Xhekaj
Guhle - Savard
Harris - Kovacevic
Barron

Edmundson traded
Wideman waived

We're in transition between MB's shit team, and Hughes bringing in young players, and the older guys are taking up space still.

Getting a 24 year old NHL goalie with a career .920 SVP in 85 games is at least as good as a middle of the 1st round pick plus non-core NHL roster players.

Pass on Killorn, unless it is a cheap one year deal near end of camp, if we need him, and if no one signed him yet.

Horrific for MTL

OK, how about our second instead of
the first with a second coming back.

Swayman is not 25 yet and has good career numbers, even in college - .939 SVP his final year.
Boston isn't giving him up barring overpayment. Alot of teams for years are doing 1a, 1b situation. In what world do you think Boston will add anything?

If the Habs eventually opt for signing Killorn, it should be as a short-term middle-6 LW to help shelter the development of a young NHL center.

So unless the Habs draft a center that could reasonably play top-9 next season (Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson) - and both Hoffman and Dvorak are dealt this summer! - I don’t see a plausible reason to target Killorn, especially since Slafkovsky/RHP/Heineman/Farrell could in principle fill the bottom-9 LW spots behind Caufield next year.

Swayman is RFA and will command a big increase. Boston has cap issues and needs cheap cost controlled depth players.

Swayman can be the 1A for Montreal with Monty while Dobes and Dichow play AHL and Vrbetic ECHL.

Habs have more of a need for core players (they are not at 11 yet) than depth players, and we already have Monty, Dvorak, RHP, Ylonen, Gallagher, Armia, Xhekaj and Savard for eight of the nine depth slots, and Pezzetta and Kovacevic for two of the three spare spots.

For 2023-24 then our top 11 are:

7 forwards -
Suzuki
Caufield
Dach
Anderson
Unknown (2023 draft pick or Dubois?? or other trade target?)
Hoffman (one final year, then is replaced with better)
Heineman (on 3rd line)
3 defencemen -
Matheson
Guhle
Barron (that's a stretch, really need someone better)
Starting Goalie
Swayman

I'm thinking we can do much better than this. Killorn was pretty bad last year although he seems to have picked it up this season. I actually think he's the perfect age for the Pittsburgh Penguins.:sarcasm:
