There's always Dubois as a possibility but that's not the only thing out there also and far from the only thing the Habs need, especially if an offensive defenseman is out there......and that 1st round pick should be a very good shopping asset at the draft.
careful there is ones here that will go crazy of no PLD to habland

You're right. Dubois is not the only possibility slitty out there for the FLA 1st rounder as trade fodder. I think that a big-bodied, minute-munching, shutdown RHD with a good stride and puck-moving abilities should be the target with that pick, perhaps, an eventual pairing partner for Hutson or Matheson, at first, at least.

Matheson - XXX
Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson/Xhekaj - Xhekaj/Barron
Barron

when Hutson first comes up.

Name the player? Nice to fantasize, but these guys don't spring forth from the ether and are very rarely available for trade.

More so than that true #1 offensive RHD. That's my wish list, more so than a true #1 offensive RHD.

I honestly think that Montreal would get enough offense and puck-moving ability from Matheson, Hutson, Guhle and Mailloux. Xhekaj is better than most give him credit for in terms of skating and shooting.

The point is that we wouldn't be able to keep a D-Corps of Hutson, Guhle, Mailloux and a true #1 offensive RHD.

Hell, although we can probably sign a D or two long term, projecting their ceiling, at a lower cost than they might cost down the line, I think it will vibe hard to keep Guhle, Mailloux, Hutson and Xhekaj as it is, down the line.

I don't mention Matheson because he can always be traded in a couple of years, or into his next contract, if and when need be. Three more seasons for Matheson, which will take him his 32nd birthday. A three-year extension probably wouldn't be out of the question.

I wonder what a guy like Lafrenière is worth on the market, he would be an interesting piece to add for sure... He probably signs with New York anyway.

I don't really see any RD that are better than what we have, under 26, and possibly available.

Maybe Durzi? I'm not a huge fan, but he can play 20mins a night.
Maybe Addison? Itty bitty and struggling to break out.
Maybe one of Gustavsson/Wallstedt are available? Big gamble moving that pick for a goalie.
Maybe Lafreniere? Seems closest to the Dach comparable.
Wild aren't moving Gus or wallstedt

You don't need two 1A goalies. If they're confident in Gustavsson, moving Wallstedt for a piece on defence is an option. Alternatively, if they like Wallstedt and think Gustavsson is a flash in the pan, capitalizing on his good season is an option. Either way, I don't think I'd bite if I'm MTL.

Pionk's value when traded is not that much different than Harris today.

Pionk vs Harris
Beck vs 20th pick

You're underselling the 2nd which is 37-40 range. That's basically a fringe 1st rounder bud. Contending teams at the 24 TDL can't offer that. Their 2nd is 50-62 range.

Early 2nd rounders have lots of value. They should not be just labeled as just a 2nd rounder.
Pionk real comparable is Barron being a RHD with some kind of breakout season. Winnipeg have no interest in Harris and i'm inclined to give Barron especially if it means we keep florida's first.

Logic says Win will compete next year so Dvorak fits the profile while being flippable if they blow the team up.

Barron+Dvorak is good value on both sides imho

IMO, that's not enough, overall, even if that were to be borderline acceptable concerning ready now NHL assets.

Montreal would at least need to add their 2nd round pick ( borderline late first round pick), or a valuable early second round pick -- call it what you want.

But, more likely, they'd have to add Beck instead. A 3rd line C, short term, and a potential shutdown C with 2nd line upside for the near future, plus a sophomore RHD with 40-point+ scoring potential, even if he comes with some defensive issues (can more easily work on those).

Dvorak + Beck + Barron

-OR-

Dvorak + Barron + Montreal 2023 2nd round pick (I don't think that is enough, personally, because Dvorak is too weak a replacement for Dubois).

I don't think we can trade for Dubois with out one of Beck, Panthers 1st, or one of our RD's (Barron, Mailloux). I would dangle Beck and retain the Panthers 1st and both our RD's.

Jets would be looking for both centers and RD and they are not getting both from us in a Dubois trade. Beck, Harris, Habs 2nd, and maybe a prospect like Tuch is what I would offer. Lets not nit pick the difference between Harris and Pionk and overlook that we are adding a valuable early 2nd rounder on top.

* Would I trade Barron? Maybe.
* Would we trade both Barron and Beck? Not sure. I think I swap out Barron and Harris and let them kick and scream like a baby
* What would be your + on top of Barron and Dvorak?

Minnesota doesn't need D. They are the last team needing D or F after having spend 1st round picks and 2nd round picks on multiple F and top d prospects. So you are wrong. Dumba is being let go because Faber is coming in. Calen addison is being traded because Minnesota is stacked

You don't know what WPG are interested in.

Who's the #1D and is he RD? What age is he? Are you going to pass on Dubois because you can get a 29+ guy on D?

Dach trade? How often is a talent like this available for a 13th pick? Lets not think that the Hawks going scorched earth is typical.

Dubois available at age 24 (25 next season) is a rare situation bud. Especially if he has the Habs on the top of his list and gives many other teams a no in the sign/trade ask.

This is correct but if they are forced to take back futures, they will target C's and D's. That's what teams look for.

What about Beck & Barron? and a small add (Tuch maybe). Not sure I like this but it does make me think. How good will Barron be? We have had a decent chance to see his game. 2nd pairing D quality in his prime?

Habs aren't trading Barron for PLD.

Jets fans need to get real with what a player forcing his way out onto a particular franchise (or two) gets in a trade.

Be thankful the Florida pick is going to be in the teens vs. late 20s, because you are getting that either way.

Does he need to be a RD? Cause Dubois is a center and I'm not sure that getting him for more than twice the amount that Dach cost is the best idea in the world considering we have 2 good center in Suzuki and Dach.

Let's say Byram is out there and we don't know it, you say no?.......he's a prime target for an offer sheet as Colorado will have 13M to sign 10 players. Who knows!

You knew Dach was available by the way? And Romanov was also apparently available and no one ever talked about it, not even a whisper or a thought.

Who tells you Winnipeg are looking for a pick for Dubois? They are not rebuilding so that might not be a given that they are looking for that kind of return you assume it will cost.

What positions do you think teams usually spend 1st and 2nd round picks on? Minnesota took part in the draft like every other team and now they don't need any more players? What a bad take.

Dumba is being let go because of contract issues and a steep decline in his play. I think Addison is unlikely to be traded and if he is it's because he's small and poor defensively. Minnesota's d-corps is aging, they still haven't figured it out up the middle, and they've got huge cap issues with buyouts. If they want to stay competitive, they're going to need as many players on ELCs as possible and be absolutely as efficient with the roster as they can. I'm not saying they have to trade either goalie, I'm saying that they might be better off if they do.

I guess my point is you bet on probability vs hope. Dubois being available and interested in the Habs is a rare circumstance. Dach for the 13th pick is not a typical circumstance.

I hope a Byram becomes available but not banking on it. I know what you mean

The Jets are crazy if they take Barron for PLD one vs one.

Barron is so bad defensively.....he is so soft.

I still think that he will never be a top 4 d in this league.
