I think it is more likely than not that we trade the pick (assuming it's not top 10). I could see us trading away some prospects/young players on top of the pick, we are overcrowded.

Maybe to get rid of some bad contracts?
No chance they would trade a 1st round pick to get rid of contracts at this point and this draft. And I suspect if they are willing to move a pick it's the Calgary 1st.

I might be late with this, but I just saw online that Friedman said in either the 32 Thoughts podcast or on the Jeff Marek show that Jets and Habs already had discussions regarding PLD. And that he'd be surprised if PLD doesn't end up in Montreal.

LeBrun has also mentioned that he believes PLD will be traded this off-season.

It would have to be a lot more than that to get Dubois. A prospect and probably another draft pick to take a waste like Armia.
That's why I mentioned potentially trading more prospects. Of course all of this will depend on where we pick with our own first.

I mean if Hugo wants to make a splash. Let's say we finish 6-8th in the draft and we really like Reinbacher.

Florida finishes 14-16 and we probably are not getting a truly impactful forward.

Trade Florida pick + Dvorak + Struble for PLD

Sign PLD to 8.5x8
Sign Caufield to 7.875x8

Offersheet Laf at ~6.3 to keep it at the 1st and 3rd compensation

Somewhere in the future......

Dach - Suzuki - Caufield
Laf - PLD - Slaf
RHP - Beck - Mesar

That would give us 3 x top 6 centres that can be moved around the lineup. Tons of size. Speed.

Guhle
Reinbacher
Hutson
Barron
Mailloux
Xhekaj

If Reinbacher somehow ends up Seider good and Hutson reaches Quinn Hughes level (or higher) than this D is also extremely stacked
I wouldn't trade Florida pick for Dubois. Most I give them is Dvorak, Harris + Calgary pick in '25. I think it's fair offer

In case anyone is curious, it was the Jeff Marek show a week ago:

He got burned because his GM's assessment was completely wrong , the OS was laughable, and then Dundon wanted to send a message to not F with his team.
Any owner burned by an offer sheet will not take it lying down. It’s a flawed option with too heavy a fallout, so it’s not that great of an option at all.

They could get better than that at the deadline as a rental. If we acquired Dubois, I'm pretty sure a first or top prospect is going the other way.
That's not enough, just wasting your time with that offer. Jets get more for him as a rental at deadline. Like I posted before, Dvorak, Harris and Calgary's first in '25. Jets will move Dubois.

Habs still need help on right D. Sign Klingberg, trade Savard at trade deadline. Both him and Klingberg are interchangeable. Gain a free first round pick. Long term future on right D, be Mailloux, Barron, Klingberg, Reinbacher. That's solid enough with Guhle, Matheson, Xhekaj, the Swede on left D. F...k using one of our top picks on a goalie. Sign a Samasnov type as UFA instead. If you more veteran sign a Halak type Draft Dvorsky or Moore with Reinbacher with our first picks instead. We get a first for Savard at deadline and Edmunston. Have 3 first in '24.

This quote from KH in today's Sportsnet article makes me think we're trading the FLA pick.

"I do envision there’s a time coming soon where a pick that we’ve acquired becomes a trade asset instead of a future player."

Calgary pick

Could be but it's likely much harder to move a pick like that "soon" with still some unknowns/conditions.

Soon we will know where the FLA pick lands, and then it can get attached to prospects teams like in this draft.

There’s the issue of where Florida’s pick ends up and also, if there is a major faller at that spot in-draft.

This is why I would rather any trading of that pick happens at the draft table and not in advance.

Better still, try and swing for a 3rd first rounder and use that as part of a deal.

People stating PLD will sign for over 9m are in for a good surprise.... He already said money ain't his main desire in life and you can bet he will take a hometown discount for a more competitive team and fans unconditional love. My bet is on Suzuki's contract or less which will set the bar to get CC on board and would provide a family/team first mentality ala Tampa Bay.

I'm not doubting you, but I'm just wondering what comments you are referring to here.
Many believe he will get more than Suzy because of cap conditions but it ain't happening imo

Taking more would be a lack of respect to his captain and taint the fact he puts the team first. Also the pressure aint the same when you get the biggest paycheck on the team...

Not even close easy on whatever your on.

Again not even close.
Guys, learn the jargon of this place

/s = sarcasm, was trying to be silly and recreate the old halak, Ryder and a 2nd

I’ve already said numerous times my offer would be fla 1st , beck and a 2nd or equivalent which is essentially the Horvat offer

My bet is Suzuki's contract or less which will set the standard of excellence for years and should also get CC on board for 8 years.
I’m just happy that we have a young, high upside local player who wants to be here.

If he signs for less, so be it but Hughes has been clearing cap room so even if Dubois is paid a market rate, he can fit in easily.

The greatest unknown and the most consequential is obviously what the Habs would have to give up in a trade if they chose to pursue him this off season.

why give up on a draft first round selection that could ends up into a player as good as Dubois in the next 3-5 years , that if we are very lucky, for Pierre-Luc Dubois ?
