Not in this case IMO. With Hart we know what we are getting. Right age group and similar mechanics to a recent star here. Getting a decent contract extention done would be the kicker.

I wouldn't bet the farm on Hart any longer. He's been very up and down and it doesn't look like he's gonna be able to mitigate his size against NHLers.

Gallagher & Florida s pick
for
Karlsson
Gally is done and Karlsson could possibly have a good 4 years left plus he's a righty
Would cost thar 1st + just to dump Gallagher.

I'm still of the belief the Habs should look at Crouse.

On a different note, what a season Keller is having.

I will re-iterate what I’ve said before, we have the upper hand in any PLD trade because he’s made it public knowledge that this is where he wants to be. There’s too much smoke to deny the fire.

With that in mind, my offer for PLD would (still) be:

To Winnipeg: Christian Dvorak, Justin Barron, 2023 Florida 1st round pick.

To Montreal: Pierre-Luc Dubois signed to an 8 year, 8.5 million per year deal.

Jets get a replacement center to help fill the void created by PLD’s departure, a right hand defenseman prospect (who gets to play with his brother Morgan) and a mid first in a deep draft. Habs get the big number one physical Center they’ve needed forever, signed to a fair long term deal.

Essentially it’s a similar framework as the Bo Horvat deal, with PLD getting the same contract.

Hopefully draft Conor Bedard!!!

Re-sign Gurianov to an incentivized two year deal with a 2.5 million base.

Send Joel Armia to Arizona along with Calgary’s 5th round pick, for Jack McBain.

Joel Edmundson will have to be moved, but you likely get more for him at the deadline than you do at the draft.

Trade Mike Hoffman at the draft. Anywhere is fine.

2023 starting lineup:

Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
Slafkovsky - Dubois - Guruaniov
McBain - Bedard - Anderson
Harvey-Pinard - Evans - Gallagher
Pezzetta

Matheson - Guhle
Edmundson - Savard
Xhekaj - Kovacevic
Harris

Montembeault
Allen

I'd throw the dice on him at close to his current salary. Basically for what we pay Allen. Yes he's been up and down but his numbers aren't horrible given the team in front of him. We wouldn't be cooking our goose while waiting on a prospect. Unless you see a better option at the draft that can be ready in a couple of seasons.

To Winnipeg: Christian Dvorak, Justin Barron, 2023 Florida 1st round pick.

Edmundson is going to be traded this off-season.

The Rocket doesn't have enough dmen, they ran out the last two seasons and then had to use them at forwards after they ran out of those. Also, you are missing Fairbrother. A bunch of them will play RD again.

Hutson/Engstrom will spend another season in their current league.
I doubt Kostenko/Sobolev are signed.
Apparently, the Habs wanted to sent Nurmi to the AHL for next season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of Harris or Xhejak traded in the next calendar year.

Just out of curiosity, but what sort of package would the Habs be willing to give up for Rantanen?
Realistically I think there's just no fit between the two teams. Colorado's only present-day roster needs are a 2C and some extra depth wingers, and Colorado is definitely not trading Rantanen to accumulate depth wingers. Montreal doesn't have an expendable C that would move the needle for Colorado so it's difficult to really envision any kind of plausible fit. Nonetheless, to take a stab at creating a somewhat plausible offer, I think Montreal would be willing to move something like Dach and both the Habs & Florida 1st rounders this year (under the assumption that neither pick wins a lottery and the Habs pick stays in the 5-7 range) as the main pieces, and probably would include some other B prospects or another youngish roster player (maybe Harris?) to get a deal over the line.

On Colorado's end, it's a weird fit because they would be taking a big risk on Dach + those two picks developing quickly enough and producing good enough players to replace Rantanen during Makar & MacKinnon's primes. I don't think Montreal makes that move either even if I think Rantanen is absolutely worth that package. Rantanen is an amazing player, but he's not going to carry a team that would be built around Suzuki, Dvorak, and Evans up the middle.

The only semi-plausible scenario I can think of is if Montreal managed to land Dubois for something built around the 2023 Florida pick + one of Anderson or Dvorak, they could then maybe try to do Dach + Montreal 2023 1st + Calgary 2024/25 1st + additional pieces for Rantanen but at that point we're very far into video game trade scenarios.

Updated with the Fairbrother/Nurmi info. Thanks! That's going to be a young AHL d-corps. If Harris/Xhekaj show they can play RD adequately, do you still foresee a trade? Would be nice to be able to keep around two young guys developed by the organization.

I don’t think so. Even if Mailloux turns pro first, I think Hutson will be a regular NHLer first.
Hutson will play at least one more, if not two more seasosn at College level + some AHL seasonning. He will have to get physically more mature to endure the NHL game. Mailloux will start in Laval for sure, but he won't be thre for very long. One season at the most.

Yes, because they have more NHL trade value than the ones in the AHL/Junior level because of how many games they played in the NHL, but not enough experience/talent/production to be seen as irreplaceable vets. It's more cost effective to move Harris or Xhejak than move Struble or Norlinder.

If Buffalo don’t move Devon Levi, which they shouldn’t

How about Yaniv Perets? Free agent, 2 back to back great year in NCAA, local goaltender with the door wide open to continue is development at the next level

He's 100% worth more than PLD.
The Jets have their hands tied if the rumors are true that he doesn't want to extend with them.

That's why I think if Montreal's going to move any big pieces it'll be to land PLD at a discounted cost since the alternative would be for Winnipeg to either flip him at next trade deadline or lose him for nothing next summer.

It's not a rumour. At the press conference after he signed his qualifying offer last summer, PLD explicitly said he wants to go UFA. He gave the Jets 2 years to deal with that.

PLD can just sign his qualifying offer again this summer and walk himself to free agency in 2024. Jets have to give him his Q.O. If they don't, he becomes UFA immediately.

I imagine they move him at the draft.

Where in North America still has vax requirements?

The U.S.

You still need proof to enter. Bertuzzi has a work visa so he gets an exemption when he crosses the U.S. border from Canada when traveling with his team. If he signs with a Canadian team, he loses his Visa and his waiver. He'd need to provide proof of vaccination to travel to U.S.

This applies to non-U.S. citizens. Bertuzzi is Canadian.

Is this accurate? I’ve been to the US multiple times and no one has ever asked me for proof of vaccination.
