They didn't trade him for money reasons, they traded him because they're tanking, don't expect to be good within the next 5 years and got a top 10 pick + back.
And he’s sue a new contract next year that they wanted no part of so they dealt him now. That’s what was reported at the time of the trade.

Too many fowards and we need room to get some ice time to play youngster like Ylonen-RHP-Slaf-Hein
Let's buyout Armia
Put Byron on LTR list all year
Trade Hoffman + Prospect for future.
Trade Drouin at the trade line for a late pick
Anderson for a late first pick (calgary)
Break Dadanov leg in practice.

Then we're good

Holy f*** this is a train wreck of not thought out thoughts.

Ylonen, RHP and Heineman should be top 6 forwards in the A and get a few games in the NHL. Let them hopefully win down there while we suck, so when some of them are ready next year, and they don't make the playoffs the mindset of losing doesn't start to creep in.

Slafkovsky, Wright, whomever should, at most get their 9 games and go to the A, or somewhere else as they're unlikely to really make an impact..

Armia buyout will be around for a while, so just ride with him for now.

You can't just put someone LTIR.

I'm guessing the pick(s) and prospect(s) you're offering are low end. You'd have to offer a 1st, given the Monahan trade and the Habs aren't doing that.

Trade Drouin at the deadline, your best thought here.

Calgary has 2 mill in cap space and Anderson isn't a cap dump at this point, so that idea is terrible.

I get it's a joke, but you can trade Dadonov at the deadline, too.

Come trade deadline, you can trade Drouin Dadonov, Monahan, Byron and Allen and then get the youngsters some ice time.

I’ve read somewhere that the Kings are just loaded with RHDs. Sounds like an plausible trading partner.

What do they need?
What's the injury status on Doughty and Walker? Both are currently listed on IR according to capfriendly.com. If neither is ready to go shortly after the start of the season, I don't think the Kings are going to trade a RD right now. Maybe when one of the two returns to the lineup. Their roster looks pretty solid. Maybe an upgrade on their left wing?

Maybe we could poach one from waivers?
Admittedly, I know very little about their RD depth or team situation, but like you I have read they are loaded at that particular position.
Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Hughes is pretty savvy!

I really don’t see a timeline for when Hughes may or may not pull moves. Some people claimed he was on vacation just before he traded for Monahan.

Hughes is on all the time. No one knows when or who he’ll be after. If something in his wheelhouse lands on his lap, he’ll go for the kill. Insiders can’t figure him out.

He’s efficiently unpredictable. He’s not looking for the spotlight or to make a splash. He’s a lounge lizard operating with the efficacy of a surgeon. Keeping all of us guessing is all part of the process.
Bergevin was also unpredictable ( maybe just not efficiently so ;) )

Depends how much depth the Kings really have. If it’s the equivalent of what the Habs have on the left side, they may be able to afford trading a RHD without it having an impact on their roster.

I dont know why the panic about a dman to help out for a while. There will be tons on waivers this year. No need to waste assets in trading for one.

The overload of wingers is a more pressing concern imo.
