Meh the 2nd was overkill but a late 1st is about standard for a 3rd line center and he’s got a solid contract. Still zero vision from that bozo though.

...either of the late 1st or the 2nd, which will be a high one barring some sort of minor miracle, was what Dvorak is worth...Bargain Bin got taken to the woodshed in a ridiculous attempt to save face after the Kotkaniemi Offer Sheet fiasco...

Players of Dvorak's caliber, or worse, have been traded for 1st picks consistently. Late 1st rounder are really overrated on here. A late first rounder that turn into Dvorak is a steal, that's not even mentionning the years of cost control attached to him.

...and again, that's fine...a late 1st and a high 2nd is not, which is what Bargain Bin paid for him...hence crapping on him for overpaying...

Wouldn’t be surprised if eventually we got more than a 1st and a 2nd. It wasn’t a ridiculous overpayment.

Severson is going to be a Guaranteed late 1st rounder atleast at the deadline so if the Habs want him its going to need to be in that ball range.

Severson

for

Owen Beck and a late round pick?

Devils get basically a 1st rounder and Shore up there depth weakness at Center, Beck would be a perfect long term fit at 3C eventually.

Habs get a 2nd pairing RD who would take petry's spot on the powerplay. Resign him or trade him at the deadline for a 1st.

How many games did he even play with St Louis? Like 20?

It's encouraging sure but not exactly a large sample size
Coincidentally, “not exactly a large sample size” is also how Dumont perceives his time as a Habs employee.

They were acquiring Dvorak with or without the offer sheet to KK, there was rumours of Dvorak in MTL during the playoffs. He knew he was losing Danault.

Center line could’ve been something like

Suzuki
Dvorak
KK
Evans

I appreciate Marco’s articles on MHN but Murphy always seems “off”.

Half of Dvorak’s value is related to his contract, not just his production. Sadly we’re probably not getting back a 1st for him but around TDL a contender will want a reliable 2/3C at a reasonable cap hit (for more then a 3rd).

...agree to disagree...vehemently...
Will you admit you are dead wrong when he returns similar value? Middle 6 centers on good contracts will get a 1st+. Again the 2nd was overkill, but to me a ridiculous overpayment is a 1st for UFA Nick Foligno. Guess we have different definitions of the word “ridiculous”…

...first, you said more than a 1st & a 2nd...secondly, since I doubt you'll admit that was ridiculously off base when he doesn't get anywhere near that back, sure I have no problem admitting it when it doesn't happen...

Yes a 1st+2nd and like a late pick. Not a 1st+2nd+ top prospect… I said I wouldn’t be surprised (i.e we play our cards right and not rush a trade) if we get more, not that it’s the return I’m expecting. That’s two very different things, only thing ridiculously off base was your reading comprehension

Dvorak has been way overrated on this board. Just because a guy gets a 20 game hot streak doesn’t make him super valuable.

I’ve been saying he needs to be traded asap because he will lose the value he has. I can see these people aren’t fooled.

A guy that has near 400 games that will turn 27 and that has never produced 40 pts won’t suddenly become a 55 pts guy.

That is a major problem. MB paid because he was stuck with his pants down and his thumbs up. He taught there was still a chance with a new team, new coach, etc. That Dvorak could grow.

On top of that, Dvorak can’t face opposition that is too good. He can’t drive possession. He doesn’t hit. He gives away the puck way more the he takes it. Although I don’t think he has a bad attitude and I don’t think he brings a negative feel in the room, I still don’t see him as an interesting guy to have around kids. His offensive skills have never translated to the NHL ( except a few hit streaks here and there) in a meaningful way.

Take the 2nd or 3rd rounder and move on.

But hey, MB paid a 1st + and he is good at faceoffs... Who cares really.
Monahan, Dach and Evans are all more interesting players. Let the interesting players play.

...nope...it's all in this page, you don't even have to scroll much...my comprehension is fine, it's your posts right here on this page that jumped the shark before you scampered backwards...and if you are correct in your assessment (somehow), I'll have no issue bowing to your unquestionable knowledge...and if you're not, will you be as forthright??...:dunno:

Hold on to Dvorak. No point trading him now. Let him play well this year and then he will only have 2 years left at 4.5M…

That’s an attractive player/contract if he can bounce up to a 50 -55 point player

Habs have an entire D core of second pair defencemen in both vets and prospects right now. Why are they trading for another? They need a top 2 desperately, not another second pair.
