This is an idea that hopefully HuGo is making some phone calls about. Allen is a cheap and decent answer for the Knights, certainly not worth a 1st on his own but hopefully they can get creative cause Vegas' 1st would be unreal in this draft.

Especially if we have their first and Jake Allen is their starter lol.

Habs have so many players to shed from their roster. The NHL is in trouble with to many team at the top of the cap. Players value are all over the place. Going to be interesting to see what lineup Montreal put together.

Trading Allen would signal to the Habs roster that the tank is on from day one. I don't see Hughes doing it.

I think that everybody with a brain knows that this team isn't going far, but they still need to try.

Habs brass are still in the first year of their rebuild. 2023 draft is one of the best in decades.....any chance to add picks, especially 1st’s, no brainer.
Pretty easy to see for us & players......it’s why Petry requested out.

Allen is a fringe starter. He's better than he gets credit for from Fans. One of the best value goalie contracts in the NHL today. He's just as good as Campbell and the Oilers just signed him with term and a much higher contract than Allen.

If the Knights call, the price is two 1st or equivalent. Doubt they do it but that's our price. Don't like it? Call someone else.
Allen isnt even worth one first round pick and Vegas have Thompson who was better then Lehner last season and is better then Allen

Then they may prefer a solid backup who can fill in as a starter if Thompson falters. Take a 2nd for Allen and try to use it at the trade deadline. A 2nd and an expiring contract (Dadonov) for a contenders 1st.
agree i would also put a vet behind Thompson but idk if HuGo deals Allen we also need a goalie Price is done imo he might play 10/15 games but i dont think he lasts the whole season

Really? Based on what? 20 career starts? Undrafted? Never seen a playoff game?

Allen is no Price but he’s got a decent cv with a ring & veterans experience.
Just say’n.
did you watch him play or just googled hes name to look at hes stats? yes hes better then Allen,Jake is nothing special neither and is very well known for not being able to be the #1 goalie and what ring he was on the bench and who cares that he was undrafted so was our coach and hes an HOF

Pietro has lost a huge step and if Eichel goes down (not a crazy scenario considering his history) their forwards look pretty weak. Then on top of that moving out Patches for nothing, Lehner out and team morale with all the buzz of the city being cutthroat.

It's definitely not a sure thing but I'd put them bottom 10 next year and maybe even bottom 5 if they sell at the deadline and embrace a down year.
If you’re logic for them finishing bottom 5 depends on 5 “ifs” and some bad luck, then it’s probably bad logic…

Habs management has not once mentioned the word "rebuild". It seems to me that this is more of a "retool". Where the team is moving out players who they don't see as a long term fit. While looking to add players who they feel would be. Also it's been noted several times that Petry requested a trade due to family issues involving Covid. It had nothing to do with the direction of the team.

I’ll admit I haven’t seen a lot of Thompson, but who he has played 20 career games at 25???

He is one of Vegas’s depth goalies who’d probably be in the minors if they didn’t have Lehner or Brossoit on the injured reserve. I don’t like to bash players...... maybe he’s their messiah I don’t know, good luck to him.

Keep in mind Vegas is not looking to flounder they are playoffs or bust.

Man... Jake Allen is the Rodney Dangerfield of our team. I understand why he's tossed into trade proposals. He's a spare part. But we devalue how important that specific spare part is on a good team.

Sure, he isn't our future. But he's a very good backup/1B who could be there when the rebuild is over. Even if we're lucky and Primeau or Dobes becomes a legit NHL starter, we can't expect them to handle 60+ games a year. We need someone like Allen who can keep the team in playoff contention and allow the starter to be 100% for the playoffs. If Allen's healthy and on a good contract, why not just keep the guy?

What he's worth means less than what you should ask for in the supply/demand area. Allen is a good goalie and likely better than what you give him credit for... based on what you just said.

Will they pay it? Probably not but we should start there. Flat cap and Allen at $2.8M is very good value

Unless we get a first rounder for Allen, I don't think we should be in a rush to trade him. Odds are at best we are looking at a later 2nd round pick in a trade for him.

We will have some younger D in our lineup, having a quality goalie like Allen will help cover some of their mistakes/turnovers. Last thing we want is for almost every mistake our younger D make, the pucks in the back of our net.

Teammates speak highly about how respected Allen is in the dressing room and Allen has mentioned he would want to stick around in a rebuild. Given we have lost a lot of good locker room guys in the last few months I think it would be good to keep a guy like Allen around.

Thompson is better then Allen

You talking about Logan Thompson? He's played 20 NHL games so that's a premature statement.

The better statement is do the Knights feel comfortable with Brossoit and Thompson and will stay put? Rather not trade futures for a one year fix in Allen.

Looks like Brossoit is on IR along with Lehner... what is his injury and is it major or minor?

Yup, not worth trading Allen for a 2nd rounder just cause teams call wanting him and his value cap hit for one year. They can complain about our high price all they want but it's a supply/demand price and we value Allen. So offer something we will consider or don't call.

100% agree. Allen doesn't get the value credit he deserves from our fan herd. Then add that there is a cap issue for many teams and a shortage of good goalies. Allen at $2.8M in a flat cap has lots of value. And his stats on our disaster team don't reveal how good he is.

Allen is just as good or close to Campbell IMO. Fans can laugh at that all they want. Allen is a good goalie people. And I have no doubt teams are calling about him but the problem is they think they can acquire for cheap.

Allen is nothing more then a backup why give assets for that when they have Thompson who was actually good for them or if they want a starter they can call the isles for Varlamov

your offer of asking for 2 1st round picks for Jake freaking Allen is insane please keep that far away from the general forums

Allen is more than just some backup and your premature on Thompson who has played 20 NHL games. You're underselling Allen and overselling Thompson.

The two 1st was a bit sarcastic bud. You missed that. Obviously you start high and starting high is not just a 1st rounder. Allen at $2.8M in a flat cap where there is a shortage of good goalies has more value than you are clueing into. This is not some typically off season from before Covid.

I love Jake Allen, he was a very important part of that COVID run we had. Nothing but respect for the lad , I know alot of habs fans realise this but I still like to repeat it

Well said. Some Habs fans need to keep hearing it! Fans stat watching and thinking Allen is just some average back-up. That's not accurate. He's a fringe starter and just as good as Campbell.
