HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #80

That trash contract won Habs biggest playoff series in 30 years. Subban by '21 was dog spew
Subban was much better for the Habs than Weber was. Subban is the best skater the Habs have had in decades.

He’s pretty much cooked now but Weber is retired.

I guess I'm one of the few who would love to trade away Anderson/Dvorak and try getting a middle 1st round pick from a middle of the pack team, and hope it ends up being higher and not going for a PLD right now. The goal this year should be 2 top 10 picks. If we are going to suck again this year, let's make it worthwhile with a big haul at the draft.

I don't think you're one of the few, its just that that is a pretty unrealistic hope.

This is how hockey teams stay bad. ^

I like Puljujarvi, a good Armia upgrade - but yes we need to move some wingers before doing this.

Subban never would’ve lasted the entirety of his contract here regardless. I imagine he would’ve been traded sometime between 2017-2019 if he wasn’t traded when he was. Especially with Bergevin here. The timing of the trade ended up being smart with hindsight. The problem is the fact he was traded for a win now player that set us back 5 years.

Subban had a NMC that would have kicked in in July when he was traded in late June but with the past CBA, the Preds had option to void the NMC part so Subban lost it. If Subban stayed, he wasn't going anywhere unless he wanted too.

Having said that, if Gallagher asks for a trade and he is serious, Hugo can negotiate to have him invalidate his NMC. :naughty:

Probably got to wait for a while before that might come into play and if it does, Gallagher can easily give a list of 5 or so teams he would waive too. I doubt he will agree to invalidate it entirely

We have a billion wingers already.

I don't see it.
But moving two for one could workj.

Hoffman and Armia and a 3rd round pick for Barrie and Puljujarvi.

Money balances short-term, and if Puljujarvi does not pan out, we can trade his RFA rights for something and gain $3M in space.

Sure but it is unlikely he will waive to go to a bottom feeder that has cap space like Arizona or even Winnipeg.

Agreed which makes it even more difficult to move. Lets just let Gallagher play hockey this season and go from there. He's not going to score 30+ anymore but he is not as bad as last season and this applies to so many of our players. If players can sustain career highs, why can't they rebound from career lows if the team has better confidence/momentum?

What's the point? I think the point of trading some of our wingers is to create cap flexilibty. So it's more probable to try 2 for 1 if the other team has the cap space to do add them while taking one out.

Gallagher would likely waive to be near his hometown. But, he’s just not marketable with that contract.

Agreed. And the timing of trying to trade him after year 1 didn't go well is bad timing. Wait for the cap to rise and until then, he's great to have around the kids. I expect some sort of rebound from Gallagher as well.

Best time to move him is probably after two more years when the NHLPA pays off the outstanding balance and the cap rises substantially. Less term left, higher cap, and 2 more seasons to see what he does at age 30 and 31.

theres no way Habs sign Subban with Gallagher still here
Only as a means of getting Gallagher to waive his NTC. :sarcasm:

Also, there’s a Triple Low Five quota that was never fulfilled.

If he doesn’t rebound in those first two seasons when he’s younger, he likely never will. The farther players like him are on the other side of 30, the lower our expectations.

I'm not sure it's a absolute "no way" narrative at this point in time. We owe nothing to Gallagher and we gave him the contract he wanted. He's not considered a core piece and I don't think Gallagher is the type to hold a grudge forever. Neither is Subban. I don't know them personally but I think they learn to get along.

Not worth it? Possible yes but If Subban wanted to come on a $1M deal or a tryout, it's not an automatic no with me.

Puljujarvi at age 24 with a one year deal and one more RFA year left is not a move I would make. Not when Caufield and possibly Dach's contract would also have to be signed.

I'd trade for Dubois but not Puljujarvi. Buyer beware on Puljujarvi with his production coming by playing with either of McDavid or Drai.
