Wait a sec, the fact there's a PR to consider when trading a Franco player doesn't concern you? She admits it in the supposed "tamed" version. She briefs them on the PR if asked. That for me says a lot. Hugo shouldn't be briefed on any PR. The fact that she thinks there's a possible PR aspect is very telling.

Not at all. I already imagined this happened.

If you don't think a billion dollar corporation operating in a market where they hold immense cultural value don't consider PR in terms of their most public assets, you're out to lunch.

Note that there is a gulf between the above and refusing to improve the team in the name of PR (and we already have evidence of the opposite, considering they drafted Mailloux). Do you realize how tame the sentence 'briefs them on PR if asked' is?

I can guarantee you that PR considerations are held when they think about trading Subban, not-resigning Kovalev/Koivu, etc.

It is pretty simple.

We get a good quebec player and he does not get the icetime to value himself.

Put’s unnecessary pressure on the player himself and on the habs.

It creates a toxic environment for other players to play in. It goes against the development of everyone.

It’s bot about the pressure on the Habs, bit about the pressure on everyone. Chantal’s advice was good.
That won't happen. Any good young player the Habs acquire will get a chance to prove himself while they are in a rebuild. If he doesn't it is because it is obvious he will never be good enough to make the team.

This is funny. The Habs need her to tell them this? Really? If there's a sliver of truth in what you just said then the coach along with Hugo should be fired if they need her to inform them of this.

Edmundson at deadline 50% retention would have alot of teams calling the ask would certainly be 2023 1st round pick +

Hes signed for another year and hes a big stay at home veteran def with a ring,he’s definitely better then Chiarot too
Probably get over value for Eddy. Similar as Chiarot. After Bergs rode those big 4 to Cup Finals. Many teams are catching on. Skill wise Habs had no business being there. But Montreal was one tough out in playoffs.

I dont get i why everyone keeps saying the Montreal Canadiens is a bottom team i actually think they have a deep and good mix of skill players and toughness and for me they could very well be a top 15-20 team in the league i mean this lineup cant be that bad?i mean if we had 1 really good righthanded defenceman and Allen plays like a top 10 goalie this could be a playoff team so i think this team could be very underrated.

Slavkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
Drouin-Dvorak-Anderson
Dadonov-Dach-Gallagher
Hoffman-Evans-Armia

Matheson-Savard
Edmundson-Barron
Harris-Wideman

Allen
Montembeault
That line up is total garbage. When you have a rookie that was just drafted on the top line you know something is wrong. Also our defence and goalie tandem absolutely blows. Montembeault couldn't stop a beach ball for christ sake lol.

I think Provorov has proven that he is talented enough to be a top pairing dman. Maybe not that stud #1, but definitely someone that can be a #2. I don't think the Flyers did a good job of developing him and I find his tools to be extremely intriguing.

He would be a good solution if we were closer to contention IMO. 3 years then UFA. I pass. Rather focus on drafting D.

If the plan is that Suz, CC, and Slaf are going to be the up-and-coming core of the future Habs then drafting D will be out of sync with that plan. They can't draft the D. They will have to trade for young Ds that are 2, 3, or 4 years removed from their draft selection.

Why? Well, I'm glad you asked.

We know it takes 3, or 4 years for D to make it to the big show. Add another 2, or 3 years to reach their peak. So if they draft great D prospects as early as 2023 it'll only be in 2029, or 2030 before they see those D prospects bloom into bonafide studs. Guess what age Suz and CC will be in 2030?

So Hugo will have to trade for those stud Ds to keep in sync with his forward group.

And we'll make no mention of the goaltending situation if Primeau doesn't develop into a stud starter.

If Hugo doesn't plan this properly they'll end up doing the same thing to Suz and CC that Bergevin did to Price.

Excellent points, also teams trying to fleece us knowing we are targeting a francophone feels like a punch below the belt furthering "complicating' our efforts to make strides forward...

Her judgement is wrong and she is wrong. Her advice is bad. She is bad at her job.

A small insignificant irrelevant subsection of non-fans should have zero influence on any affair.

Bergevin traded away beloved homegrown superstar PK Subban. Get out of my face with this crap, you know perfectly well what horrible precedent this sets.
I can't stand her ever since she roasted Mailloux on rds.

Yes so play Montembeault as much as possible then you are in the Bedard sweepstakes.

MO Beaudoin suggesting he'd sign Anton Stralman to a PTO or for 1 year @ $800K. He can be an RD that can be on the 3rd pair and help with the young D this year.

If Stralman is interested, I would do it.

He would help the 3rd pair for sure with a young guy like Guhle/Harris.

I'm surprise he's not already sign elsewhere

The RD would then be Savard, Wideman & Stralman.

Then the LD would be Matheson, Edmundson & one prospect. I also expect Schueneman to be a 7D and rotate in and out of the line-up with someone like Stralman).

He is, but I'd wait for the waiver wire. We're 1st and there's always a couple of very surprising names that come up that shock the hockey world.

I'd keep that spot open longer to wait and see. Depth D are a dime a dozen and even if he accepts a PTO, it doesn't stop HuGo from making him an offer and signing him.

...sure but do we want a Noah Juulsen-type??...cuz I can't see any team cutting bait on an even half-decent RD; they're like the One Ring in the NHL right now, every Smeagol GM wants it...needs it...the precious...

I don't think Juulsen being on waivers "shocked" the hockey world.

I'm talking about player who wasn't expected to be on waivers but the team had to put them on for salary restraints, open a spot for a youngster etc. You see it nearly every year.

Liam Foudy is a name that could be really interesting for the Habs. Big body, very fast and a RHD who hits hard and is still developing. Sure there are many others, but that's the point. You don't know who else can be made available so wait and see would be my position unless there's someone they trade for or sign to a PTO in the interim to hedge their bet.

...what I meant was that waiting on a RD to become available might take awhile and I can't personally see too many "quality" RD available unless we make a move for one...

Good thing Habs are in no hurry to get a RHD. It also doesn't prevent them from signing players to a PTO, signing players who are on PTO's with another team to an NHL contract or signing a player for under $1M and assigning them to Laval to clear cap if need be.

Plenty of options and taking advantage of having the top spot for waiver pickups is a big advantage I don't see HuGo passing on.

...still believe Barron will surprise us (and the rest of the League) and become that quality Top 4 RD we want him to become...kid's got loads of talent...

I agree. Love the player and think he'll be a stalwart top 4. Doesn't change the fact their looking for a RHD now though.
