Don’t know what to make of this whole Dubois thing. My gut tells me he’s just using the Habs angle to gain some kind of leverage in contract negotiations or something else. I have a hard time believing a high profile Quebec born player actually wants to come here in their prime. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Yes.

Well actually, it is all about supply and demand. PLD needs a contract now. He has quite a bit of power over the team since he can decline to sign with them thus forcing the team to trade him. Each week he remains unsigned, he's value diminish and he's a distraction to the rest of the team. So... trading him now is definitively in the Jets best interest.

Now as for value, if it is true that he only want to play in MTL, and his agent says as much to the other 31 teams... why would NYR or any other team pay through the nose to get him for only 2 yrs?? WIN should expect a return similar to a UFA rental, not a core piece to a young roster. The Jets are stuck... must trade him and nobody will see him as anything more then a UFA rental in terms of value. Win can mitigate the damage and try and play the pressure building around in MTL to get the deal done, but they wont get top tier return for him from anyone.
That's a fair assessment, but the Habs lack the cap space to sign him. Winnipeg isn't taking one of Montreal's garbage contracts back like Gallagher or Armia (who they dealt to Habs) or Byron or Drouin or Hoffman ect. The Habs will have to trade a roster player back to the Jets to make the necessary cap space to sign Dubois. To sign Dubois they're probably going to have to make $7M or so of cap space. They have just under $250K of space according to capfriendly.com. If Price goes on LTIR it will help, but that hasn't happened yet and they still need to sign Dach. I'm guessing someone like Anderson and/or Dvorak will have to go the other way.

You also metioned that Winnipeg should expect a rental type return, which for a guy like Dubois would be a 1st rounder, a good prospect, and possibly another pick/prospect/player. I'd be very surprised if a 1st, high end prospect, and good/solid roster player isn't included in a deal with Montreal. I also think that other teams would be willing to risk a rental return for him even if he only signs a two year deal with them. If the team that lands him offers a big money 8 year deal, I'd be surprised if he walked away to sign in Montreal. Especially if the Habs aren't in a position to match that hypothetical deal.

I'm not against acquiring Dubois. I just don't believe it's going to be a bargain like some are suggesting.

That's exactly what this was. A bullshit job by Brisson to get Winnipeg to cough up the money and term. It's sad the both English and French media are still talking about.

Arpon Basu was on Melnick yesterday and said he has never heard of an agent pull this kind of stunt.

Pretty sure I didn't say that I would want to trade it for Zach Whitecloud.....But I always said that despite not being protected, unless Barkov and Huberdeau and half of the team gets into a non-life threatening bus accident that ends their season, Florida is not going to finish bottom 10. It still gives us maybe a 20 to 30th pick, which is nice to have fo sure. But we have talking about a rugged 6'2'' 40-goal scorer....
You already know that it only takes a freak injury to one or two key players or a massive bad string of lost man-games and all of a sudden … I’d say, only offer the pick when we find out where it lands.

I’m starting to think the same thing

What do you mean when you say "It basu isn’t bull shitting by saying Dubois may never be a hab, What a hell Dubois and brisson are"?

Agents don’t because it’s going against “da code” - this was calculated to negate Chevaldayoff’s leverage.

Man, that FLA 1st pick is sure getting passed around via a whole lot of fake trading. First, people were clamouring for an extra first rounder and now that we have one, awaye par là!
All it needed is a 1st overall pick to have people think we can now go for the cup in the next couple of years. People forget that it took Colorado, to name only one team, 10 years to win the cup. Slavkofsky isn’t even Landeskog or McKinnon. Crazy stuff going around these days.

Maybe. If that was the case though, its pretty weird that Dubois showed up to the draft.

Doesn’t surprise me Brisson is behind this. He’s always been an absolute weasel.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
We all know young top 6 players never come to montreal.

Can't wait for this stupid saga of Dubois to be over.
When it Happened for Trouba , he literally said it he wanted NY.
There is no 100% confirmation that Dubois wants only MTL. Most likely he just wants to play in a good team and get overpaid and that's about it.
Also Brisson is a god damn rat as always

I understand that there's reasons to be skeptical of this whole story being true or not but this doesn't really make sense, Brisson would not need to go public and talk about his client wanting to play in Montreal just to drive a hard bargain against the Jets for more money, all he would have to do is say Dubois will test free agency unless the Jets make it worth his while to stay.

The reason agents normally don't talk about a specific team like this is because it doesn't give you any additional leverage in negotiations with the existing team beyond what you'd get by just saying "we will test free agency" and not rocking the boat too much, while it brings a lot of negative attention to the player and craters your leverage with the team you're leaking to the media since that GM feels way more comfortable to lowball you. It only really makes sense to do this if the player's priority is getting to a certain team ASAP even if it comes at a financial cost.

Yup - especially with one of, if not the most prominent agent doing the speaking publicly.

So, we already had too many wingers, and we just added Pitlick to the pile. Moves need to be made to clear up spots. From the available players, this would be my top 13 forwards:

Slaf-Suzy-Cole
Dad-Dach-Andy
RPit-Dvo-Gally
Pezz-Evans-Armia
Ylonen

Byron likely on LTIR. I put Armia in the lineup for is PK skills, and he isn’t out of place on a 4th line. Ylonen (and RHP) need to earn a spot in the top 12. I am not high on either guy, tbh.

If we could get a mid round pick for Drouin at 50% and a depth RD with term for Hoffman, I would be thrilled.
If Drouin can get 50 pts by trade deadline we could potentially get a 1st round pick for him. I think we should hold on and see what happens. It's his contract year so he s gonna play a little harder then usual. But we are definitely going to trade him . Not part of the future

That’s not the same thing at all. Why would you ever count rookie totals?

He has 4 seasons that were not rookie seasons. 3 of them were normal full seasons. He scored 60 points in two of them and was on pace for 57 in the other. To me that’s an obvious 60 point player.
OK, certain don't count........no worries! The math on his games played tell us he is a .66 ppg player. Again, this equates to 54 pts per season. True or not?
Let me guess, if he had gotten 80 pts in his rookie season, you would............want it counted. True, or not?
If I remember correctly what started all this was a poster, said he was a 65 pt player, and he has not been a 65pt player.....can he become one, of course, but just not yet.

I still can't believe rookie years don't count as real stats for players......gotta learn something new everyday eh....

I mean he was likely excited. It was away from Torts. Doesn't mean he wanted to spend the rest of his career there.
What was Dubois’ excuse for his Peg pledge of allegiance from April 29th this year?

Five years of Drouin and you’re still holding out hope?

To acquire Dubois and have the cap space to sign him, we would need to trade 2 of these players (to the jets or another team): Dadonov, Drouin, Hoffman, Anderson, Dvorak

Flames would probably want Slaf+Dach+1st for Tkachuk. Love the player but he’s gonna be way too expensive, doesn’t fill our biggest need, and probably doesn’t want to play here.

He's a UFA. He wouldn't be worth the 1st overall even under contract, much less under these circumstances. That's a package for a prime Draisaitl under contract.

Since becoming a hab, JD has averaged 50 pts for an 82 game pace.................you think he can get 50 pts in about 55-58 games this upcoming season?
I am thinking he plays 25 games, and shuts it down, again........look at the history, and this is where he is headed, realistically.
Would love to be wrong, and get a 1st for him, but....................highly unlikely.

I just want our picks back. Are any of those interested teams, willing to cough up?

From the above link:

“I can tell you that I know three teams that have talked to Kent [Hughes] more than once about him, and I’m sure there’s more,” the source said. “Look, do I think Kent wants to move him. …probably not, but he needs to free up cap space for other things he’s doing that he believes helps him now and in the future and obviously Dubois is one of those things.”

Dvorak would make sense, but no way the Jets take much else off the list................not that they have the leverage, HuGo does....
Would like to see Anderson stay, unless a massive overpayment, of youth, or picks.....in the perfect world if we get Dubois, he is on the wing with Dubois.
