An important tidbit for the people who treat hockey players as purely assets and have been on the 'just wait two years and get him for free train'. It's obviously not that simple:

Especially now, a long-term deal I could have a family, I could be in the last years of my career at that point. It’s not just what you want now, it’s what you want six years from now, five years from now, eight years from now. It’s not an easy decision to make,” Dubois said. “Everybody’s different, everybody has different motivations, everyone has different opinions of everything. It’s easy to judge people but, at the end of the day, we all have different mindsets in what is important to us and what is not.”

People have plans. What holds true now may not hold true in two years. Dubois can't necessarily put his life on hold for two years because you don't want the Canadiens to give up a couple of prospects or a couple of picks.

He was at the draft so I'm thinking he thought an agreement was reached and maybe WPG balked and got them angry. Can't really see anything else.

PLD does this and he's labelled a whiner and quitter...

So this kid is all good to do this but PLD isn’t.

Anyone can so choose to play where the f*** they want when they acquire the power to do so. In Calgary and Winnipeg’s case, they have employees who are indicating that they won’t resign. Power to them. No billionnaire owner will make me cry. And no millionnaire player either for that matter.

PLE wants to come to Mtl and HuGo see the fit? Bring him in, ostie! Une fois pour toutes!

I dont think Dubois had anything to do with it. Brisson cooked this up all on his own and Dubois just followed his lead.

That’s cool. It’s just Dubois, not some franchise altering talent. If the timing is wrong we’ll find other 2nd liners in two years. It doesnt seem he needs even that much time before he’d rather move on from whatever team he’s playing for at the moment.

Please no PLD, he strikes me as more than a bit of a prima donna. Not happy here, not happy there, just play the damn game and earn your money. When you are a free agent you can go where your heart desires, until then shut up and play.

Canada has problems too.
Agreed but it seems obvious that European and Canadian have less issue playing in Canada than Americans. It's becoming clearly a factor to consider moving forward when drafting or trading for American players.

I personally won't debate politics but if a player (as fortunate as he is making millions in hockey) have to feel he has to leave the country solely based on political belief then good riddance. We are trying to build a contender not a political movement.

Calgary got shafted so hard by two American cry babies.

At this point Canadian teams should be relunctant to draft americans.

We had the same problem in Mtl recently, Petry and Pacioretty wanted out.

Calgary is actually a pretty nice city to live in plus let’s be honest players never stay more than 2-3 months per year so I don’t see how this is an issue.

Some say he breaks a lot of stuff, but even a broken clock is right twice a day…

I've been following him for years, he broke tons of story....MSL in MTL, that's him that broke the news.
But when that tweet came out, it was a comments on a retweet the Habs have not made any cap space....he didn't say something was coming or that any infos.....

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
If this thread gets twenty or thirty times longer the rumours may get as annoying as the 2007-era rumours for Lecavalier and Sundin.
This is literally Lecavalier all over. Media needed something for the summer. Dubois is perfect for that.

It's not happening and I bet Hugues is probably not even in discussion with Winnipeg. Just another reach because stun petit gars de chez nous.

Hugues focus is probably to shred salary.

So you haven't followed the story at all and decided to comment on it.

Why?

I’ll take Our Canadian problems every day of the week over what’s happening in the US
Especially the last 6 years

He doesn’t want to get his hopes high is my opinion

There's a difference between not getting your hopes up and flat out making like, three false statements in one two sentences.

Is Pat Brisson the media? Is Kent Hughes smiling and saying he doesn't want to get scolded for confirming his interest in a specific player the media?

I do think that chances are high that Dubois finds his way to the Habs in the near future either via trade but more likely via free agency. Where there is smoke there is fire and he'll be Drouin replacement as the next local guy figurehead.
