Red Wings trade F Klim Kostin, Jonatan Berggren, and Wings 1st round pick.

Penguins trade F Jake Guentzel.

Jake Guentzel – (C) Dylan Larkin – Lucas Raymond
Alex DeBrincat – J.T. Compher – Patrick Kane
Robby Fabbri – Joe Veleno – David Perron
Michael Rasmussen – (A) Andrew Copp – Daniel Sprong

Christian Fischer

I don't think Yzerman will stay put if this team is sitting in a similar situation come TDL. I think he'll make a move to push them into the playoffs and hopefully a series even.

Rumors are... Guentzel turned down a 6 year 8.5 per deal worth something like 50 some million. Hard to believe but more and more it's looking like Dubas will dangle him for picks/prospects. Gritty scorer who fits a need on our top line like a glove almost.

I don’t understand the desire for Laughton at all. What am I missing? He’s a 0.5ppg two-way player. We have several of those. Capfriendly has him as a second liner but i do not see that anywhere in his stats. Plus, he is almost 30. We should be looking at players in their mid 20s with room to grow with our young core, who will be productive for at least half a dozen years.

I like Guentzel and Buchnevich as players. But Guentzel is 29 and a UFA no less. Buchnevich is a little different imo cuz he has term. Depends on the price of course, but I get tummy aches when I think about giving up premium assets as a still rebuilding team for a guy who is a UFA in 2 years at the age of 30.

I think we are in dangerous territory right now because the chances are there to add and thereby get to the playoffs faster. But the assets we have to spend for that could really haunt us. Montreal tried to accelerate their rebuild, failed miserably. Ottawa is in that same sucky situation. I am willing to be patient, if Stevie does it right.

Yeah crazy, Berggren has one less point than Kakko.
There's a reason Steve likes to buy low.

If you take a look two years ago, I suggested Georgiev when he was struggling hard, and last year I also said I'd like to get Granlund along with draft picks. Now I am suggesting Kakko. None of these suggestions are based on stats, just what I saw and what I think they can be. I don't care that Kakko has bad stats this year, and that's exactly why I think it would be good to go for him. The cost should be pretty low and I personally think he can be a very good player. Obviously I could be wrong but Granlund and Georgiev would have been more than decent moves looking back.

I just don't like buying high on trades. It's low value.

But I do think we should probably focus on defense, I just don't know who I'd want exactly.

Probably unpopular but I'd make a move for Kakko
I had an idea of veleno for kakko. We have centers that can take the spot and you get kakko in the bottom/middle 6 and hope he just needs a change of scenery. I think as a hockey trade it works pretty well. I don't think we keep veleno after this year and we can try to bring up kasper to take his role next year.

For making the playoffs this year Veleno is definitely better than Kakko... And who is Kakko better than? Klim Kostin about that's about it?

I'm not exactly worried about next year's roster or looking to even revitalize a player when I'm in the heat of the playoff chase with other really good teams. If I'm Yzerman I wouldn't actively be trying to get worst for next year's sake when I'm one of the best scoring teams in the league right now in the playoff mix with long-term guys in place.

I said it in November and now it's February, I think fans need to wrap their minds around this team being good and being buys now, and for the next few years even. Rebuild is over, Red Wings are not picking in the top 10 again for at least a few years now, and they are prolly 1 elite type player away from competing with Boston/Canucks/Rangers, etc vs drafting in the top 10 again.

I said it in august I think after all the additions that we would be in the wildcard minimum. December almost derailed me but I just had to remember the injuries.

Then that's why I said they have to win 9 games in january for us to have a shot and sniff out florida. I didn't expect florida to win at their pace during the same stretch but we are still in short distance iwth them.

I really like the idea of Guentzel or Buch.

Though they might be expensive. I think a roster player goes back regardless.

I say that because I firmly believe Fischer/Copp/Raz line should not be touched atm. I wouldn’t mind parting ways with Fabbri.

However does Stevie want to mess around with the forward group chemistry? If not, Hanafin might be a better choice. Kane is a great pickup but believe we need one more offensive threat to be a player. Buch/Guentzel

We should be adding but...calculated adds

That means
- don't touch SE, ASP, Kasper, Danielson, Cossa or Augustine
- young enough to be here for the next 3 to 5 years..so currently under 30
- not throw our cap structure out of whack(need to consider salary out)

Given the # of vets on our roster, the depth of our prospect pool, and our salary cap structure I think we're in a great position to add a guy(or two) like Hanifin or Buch

I’m on the minority probably maybe even only guy who thinks Kaspar is expendable. Only because of Danielson

The trade market is pretty weak and I think we'd be able to get good returns for guys if we were to deal them

Curious on what ppl think we can get for

Perron
Kane (especially if he produces the next month)
Sprong
Gostisbehere
Maata(with edvinsson I think hes expendable)
Reimers

So you'd be content with a husso/lyon tandem?

can we try to keep one of those players for buchnevich and give them perron? STL is making a push for playoffs now so that might help them as well. That being said, I don't see STL trading buchnevich for futures if they are in the hunt.
Yes. I would. I don’t know about the rest of that trade stuff… but I’m not breaking the bank for a goalie upgrade because the only guys who are sure upgrades would cost way more than is justifiable for a team on the playoff bubble

Just asking to see what people think of the value of our guys

I'm on a different mindset ... I know it'll depend where we are but I'd deal them anyways if they're not coming back cause were a long way of making the playoffs and theres a great chance we barely miss out

I know it won't be a popular opinion ,so be it

For the sake of a discussion Im not sure you could get much more than a 3rd for most of those guys.

Maatta with retention might get you 2nd because he has another year left. Kane definitely won't be traded.

And for the record, I don't see Steve Y selling any of those pieces off as long as this team is in the mix.
