I only hope that Vancouver is getting Lindholm and then give him a bad contract extension so it messes up negotiations with Petterson.

All indications are that he's a rental.

Anyways, trade details:

Should we waive Holl?
Nobody will claim him. He's gonna be an expensive 7D for a couple of years then get bought out.

Fester isn't doing him any favors by pairing him with Ghost. If Chiarot isn;t back after break, Stevie needs to call up Ed.

It's not a matter of if or when it's what moves will Yzerman make? If we make the playoffs then we have cap space to spend, which I have no doubt in my mind he will do something. If we are out of the playoff race then who does he sell? If we are in the playoff picture I can see him trying to make significant adds.

I'd call Dubas and ask the price on Guentzel. Sign him to an extension, 5 years at 8 million and it makes this team instantly a perennial playoff contender. Two top lines of :

Debrincat - Larkin - Kane
Raymond - Compher - Guentzel

Albert Johansson, Berggren or Soderblom, Kasper, 2025 1st

I like Guentzel a lot, I'm not sure I love the price you've got, or the amount of cash per year on his extension but I can follow the idea. It's also going to require a roster player to be moved over for money, Perron is my personal candidate but, who knows.

He's the right type of sandpaper for our top lines, scramble those six players just about any way you want, and I think you've got effective lines.

If we are out of the playoff race, Perron, Ghost, and possibly a goalie will be the players for sale. Stevie may very well entertain offers for Sprong and/or Kane too.

I like sprong and I'd keep him but I'm guessing he'll be looking for 4+ years next contract which I wouldnt do

What's his trade value? I was thinking at 50% retained with his salary not being super high a cash strapped team who's a real serious cup contender might be interested

Can he fetch a late 1st?? If that would be the case and were not planning to bring him back yzerman would have to deal him playoff race or not. We can always end up using that pick in a package to get another big player

What's the likely return? 2nd and ok prospect? Really think with the trade market being weak and his low salary we can get a lot back

Kuzmenko, Jurmo, Brzustewicz, 1st + conditional 4th (becomes 3rd if they make the conference finals)

Massive, massive overpay.

However, Kuzmenko is a throw in on this deal. If Detroit could get him for say, a 2nd, or a 3rd + 4th? Probably not a bad gamble.

Or...

If Calgary is in full rebuild mode maybe we can steal 2 or 3 other players for picks/prospects?

1st + 2nd + Wallinder/AlJo + Berggren + Husso + Ghost

for

Rasmus Andersson + Blake Coleman + Jacob Markstrom

Major upgrades to Detroit's depth.
Coleman replaces Perron as the winning vet who can play a 2nd/3rd line role while being a MAJOR upgrade defensively. Net front on PP2, terrific shorthanded, and familiar with Fester as a coach.
Andersson is an ideal 2nd pair leader who can take PP1 minutes and is RD (where we could use an upgrade on Ghost)
Markstrom is a big bump over Husso even if the numbers say they're not far apart this year.

I would way rather go for Buch than Guentzel

That feels like a bit of an overspend if they aren't looking to re-sign the guy. Guess they had to spend extra to send Kuzmenko the other way.

Total overspend without an extension.... or maybe it's their backup plan to re-sign him if Pettersson asks for too much money and they have to trade him.

Either way, they're all in now. I'm just not convinced that the team is built for the playoffs. If the Canucks get into the Cup finals, it will actually give me some more confidence about the makeup of the Wings roster, so it'll be interesting to watch.

I think they end up losing to edmonton. Feels like whoever comes out of the east will beat edmonton in the finals this year. Bookmark this if I'm right lol

The West is a total crapshoot. As Boston demonstrated last season, regular season dominance doesn't mean much in the playoffs.

My guess is that the Wings will beat the team coming out of the West anyways. I'm always right, so plan the parade!

I wrote it in the trade boards, but thought I'd add it here to ask you guys what you think. By no means do I think this is an even trade (it could be?) but if Yzerman were to go after Scott Laughton (feisty, scrappy guy imo that I would like), would you guys like a deal in the neighborhood of:

Maatta+veleno
for
Laughton

Who adds, what is the add? Just trying to add a space for edvinsson without making a crazy move while getting meaner in the process down the middle. Everytime we have played PHI, I noticed Laughton without trying to look. He either scored, was a part of it, and was always in the thick of the scrums.

edit: Laughton has term left in his deal, so I assume we add more; however, phi is in rebuild mode and taking on two players where one is RFA and the other has one year left that you can flip next year at the deadline if needed. People have also said that he is one of the main reasons their PK is really good this year as well.

That's the trick with Laughton. He'll never get to play against us if we trade for him. For his career he has .79 points per game against the Wings and a .37 points per game against every other team in the league. Over 10% of his career goals are against us.

Laughton isn't going anywhere

the Flyers reportedly turned down a 1st+2nd for him in the offseason

St. Louis offered a 1st and 2nd round picks last year for Laughton and Philly turned it down. Sounds like they wanna keep him unless someone over pay.

his points have gone down kind of significantly compared to last year. What was offered last year won't be offered this year.

Regardless, was just gauging everyone

This is the exact and only reason we got dbc so what's your point.

Ahhhh no thank you
To get a top line d man that can play even strength against top competition that also plays on the pp and pk. Would be a perfect partner for Edvinsson. ASP might have a bit more offence in him but Andersson is better everywhere else. He makes under 5 mil for the next two years.

I would certainly hope that Rasmus, at 27yo is better than an 18yo in all-around play.

And as for a bit more offense... ASP has as many goals in an injury interrupted D+1 (26 games) in the SHL than Rasmus had in the 64 games in the OHL in his D+1.
