You had me doubting my memory, so I went back and looked, and found some -- on this very thread.

I don't want to name names, but there were at least 4 vocal proponents of PLD, a couple of whom are actively participating, one with a comment on this very page. There's some discussion on pages 3 to 5, and later on about page 29 -- a suggestion to trade Raymond in a package for PLD is discussed, and liked by 3 other guys.

Admittedly there weren't as many PLD boosters as there were, say, Erik Karlsson supporters. Either would have been disastrous in hindsight, as would many still being discussed now.

Zegras, for example. His support boils down to "buh muh Michigan goals." Yes, all 3 of them.
Ah okay lol. Idk I must have missed it because I didn't remember it once. All I remembered was he has forced his way out of 2 organizations so why would we want him to come here and all that.

Wasn't trying to call you a liar, was literally just questioning it because I never thought there were proponents for him lol.

I remember the karlsson comments were closer to 50/50 though. I am not a fan of zegras tbh.

With the Wings having a pretty good grasp on WC2 in the East I am kind of expecting to see Berggren moved as part of a package for Hanifin.

Once the rosters expand you can bring up Edvinsson and run Seider, Walman, Hanifin, Edvinsson, Chiarot, and Maatta and let Holl/Petry ride the pine as depth.

edit: Gonna be honest, I completely forgot that Ghost exists. I would modify that to Seider, Walman, Hanifin, Edvinson, Chiarot, Ghost, and dump one of Maatta\Holl\Petry. Ghost on the third pair and PP2 would probably be the best spot for him to pick apart third pairs and fourth lines.
I take this move is made with Hanifin signing a contract extension with Detroit?

I cant see SY trading for an aged vet or a guy about to be a FA whom he dosent intend to resign...

Hanifin makes slot of sense and could see him sign here

Zegras makes sense age/contract/skill wise

Stevie gonna fleece Ottawa again? David Pagnotta seems to think both Montreal and Ottawa have interest. Don't see much on the Montreal side really, Ottawa interest's me.

Maatta/Chairot + Berggren for Chychrun
really don't want chychrun...and given what happened last time when we traded with each other, I highly doubt we would be trading again soon. Regardless that there is a new gm in place. Berggren probably still doesn't even hit their top 6 because they will give preferential treatment to who they have like tkachuk, giroux, etc.

I'd much rather do maatta/chiarot + Berggren for Markstom. Call up Ed. Trade reimer to a team willing to take him. Future considerations is fine with me. Trade Husso, maybe include him in the trade with maatta + Berggren to get markstrom. Add a pick if needed. Maybe Work it in to get hanifin and markstrom? At this point, I prefer markstrom to battle lyon. Maybe they create our version of swayman/ullmark and they switch off to keep them fresh? wouldn't mind that at all. Plus, at that point, we would have 2 more years of markstrom and 1 year of lyon, so our goaltending is completely set for next year and if we have injuries, hope that cossa can make it happen by then.

Neg...

i cant see Ottawa sending him to us for anything but an overpay, and player himself ain't very good

Likely the only way it happens is, like DeBrincat, Chychrun tells Ottawa he wants Detroit. That guts his value a bit and forces the inter division trade.

But I'm calling my shot now:
One of Chychrun or Hanifin will be a Wing. Makes too much sense for me.

I truly believe Hanifin will be or is st the top of our list
I don't see how hanifin doesn't become a wing but I have no idea why to back up that statement. I just think I keep saying it so it makes it a foregone conclusion in my brain, which is dangerous. I think it happens more in the offseason for some reason and again, I have no idea why.

I feel like we need RHD way more than LHD while we wait for ASP to be NHL ready.

RHD: After Seider, we have who? Petry ? Holl?
LHD: After Walman, we have Chiarot, Maatta, Ghost, Edvinsson, Johanson, Wallinder

If only Hanifin was a righty

Same, I don’t know why people think we are going to go hard after Hanifin.

The org seems to love Walman and Chiarot. Then I’d be very surprised if they didn’t see Edvinsson as a regular next year.

Hanifin is going to be a highly sought after player, and I don’t see us having the need to win that sweepstakes.

Plus there is a pretty good group of RD hitting UFA you could get one of without giving up picks/assets for.

Id rather just sign Brett Pesce or Montour for free they are both UFAs, bring up Edvinsson for free.

Walman - Seider
Edvinsson - Pesce
Chiarot - Petry/Holl

trade Berggren + Maatta + a pick for a goal scorer to replace perron

Seider, Edvinsson and maybe Johansson and Wallinder are the only long-term pieces there, IMO. Walman is good but I don't think Yzerman would hesitate to trade him if the right deal came along.

Long term, if your defense looks like this:

X-Seider
Edvinsson-X
Hanifin-X

You're in good shape regardless of who the X's are.

do we really want Hanifin making around 7 million on the 3rd pair?

In Tampa, Yzerman had McDonagh, Hedman, and Sergachev on different pairs. There's not really a traditional third pair in that situation. If it makes you feel better, Edvinsson can be the "third pair" D on his ELC.

I think with the leadership (from top to bottom ) that Zegras would do very well here. 1, 2 punch of him and Raymond on competing lines would be healthy for both.

Not sure what I would give up though.
