Hahah, like Edvinsson is "surefire" #2, dude has been buried in the minors and not even given a chance? If there is a chance we can get Zegras it has to be pursued with as fast as possible, and im sorry but "Copp + extra" isnt the thing that gets it done...
Surefire is your word, not mine. Trust me, you won't need to teabag ASP for a while. Why must Zegras be pursued at all? He is a nice 20-25 goal scorer who can't effectively play center in the top-six. He is a nice player who makes the forward group better, but hardly a unicorn bringing us a cup. More importantly, why is Anaheim shopping him exactly? Is Anaheim shopping him?

For the record Copp isn't bringing us anything at the moment.

Edvinsson (already buried and Wings have Sandin-Pellikka coming up)
Buried? You misspelled developing. And how exactly ASP excludes Edvinsson? Lighthouse and a flaslight, they don't even play the same role, Yzerman literally said after the draft that we didn't have a defenseman like ASP. And Ed has not been given a chance? 11 NHL games + pre-season camp just for giggles? Not to even mention that ASP is not even close to be NHL ready, people have way too unrealistic expectations on NHL readiness. At earliest ASP is ready 3 years from now.

Wings have builded elite defense for 5 years now and we supposed to throw away the time and the effort for a 2C? Yzerman didn't like Zegras "for free" in 2019, why would he spent any valuable to get him now?

If Verbeek is in the mood for trades, go after Gibson.

He is a controversial player, but what he will be is a point per player or even more. Copp isnt what he can be traded for. He is not an Unicorn, but Larkin and Zegras the 1-2 punch would be something that most other teams would drool to have.

Why would zegras be available though? Why can't he or gauthier or whatever move to the wing??

Verbeek rebuilding the team with his players. Look at the Wings, only 3 players that were drafted by Kenny.

Also, Zegras had a groin injury this season, the Wings have shit luck with groin/core injuries. So I'll pass. Not to mention that Zegras' defense is questionable, and that would be a problem with this D corps.

Add Zegras to this team that already has defensive issues, and they'll have to score 5 goals instead of 4 to win games.

I can see your argument with verbeek, but I just don't understand why you would just get rid of this guy because of that reason. But that's not for me to decide or judge, I suppose.

I wouldn't want him on the wings either, solely because of his defense. I was hesitant on kane because of his defense even pre-injury, but he has at least shown an ability to get it done or at least look like he can get it done. I never seen that with zegras lol. Then again, I haven't been looking too much on what he is doing out there all the time.

IF there is a chance to get Zegras i think wings should pursue it hard. It's not like you can get such a player for scraps. Maybe i overplayed the depth where Edvinsson is buried, but if there is a chance to swap him to Zegras, you have to agree that it has to be taken. It was just a proposition, not some actual offer...

You have to do no such thing. The same reasons Yzerman took Seider instead of Zegras applies to keeping Ed over Zegras.

I wouldn't want to trade Edvinsson for Zegras either ideally but the Wings are gonna lose Edvinsson for a hell of a lot less than that at some point if they keep not playing him

Just trade Ghost w/ 50% retained for whatever and give that icetime to Ed. Easy.

My honest thoughts on Zegras, are he is a guy who cares more about fancy moves and NHL lifestyle/celebrity than being the absolute best he can be. I think he is going to end up just being good when he could be great.

I don't think he's the guy you sell your farm for, the question was is it worth pursuing. I think you always gotta check right?

Sure, but no one in the Edvinsson level should go the other way, unless the Wings think they aren't tracking well.

Zegras doesn't look like he will be a center in this league. I think he has a ton of talent, so I can absolutely wrap my head around picking him up. But if the plan is to play him in the top 6 at center I just really don't see that. Now is Zegras the kind of guy you hope fits out on the wing and breaks games with an industrious center... Larkin, Compher, Kasper, Danielson, even Copp and Veleno are all industrial center 200 foot players by nature. He represents the kind of wing talent that can break open offense and feed a dependable team. I don't know if Yzerman is going to pull the trigger on this though. Really cannot blame him, but one of the reasons you establish a good culture should be to turn the odd player around. It can be risky, but you really cannot be risk adverse in professional sports and hope to win championships.

I would not part with Edvinsson for him at all.

There isn't a ton protected here when you go in for the deal. Edvinsson, Seider, Raymond are a no for me. Now that leaves guys of interest, you can talk Danielson or ASP others for protection, I kind of believe that GMPV would be after the guys he knows he likes in the system, guys he sees roles for on the team he is building and players whose ceilings he believes in. You could attach other futures, is Zegras a better gamble than a teens pick we are likely to have in the first, plus a couple prospects?

The only other thing here is if you're going heavy after the Ducks, you need to talk Gibson with them. He would stabilize the goal situation until Cossa and/or Augustine are ready.

Being around Larkin , Yzerman and our culture could change that. He is only 22 and has a lot of potential and proven abilities.
