Good to know that fans have to endure dumb moves to prove their worth.

If you bail on the team, you're not a fan. You can disagree with management, hate every move made, call for people to be fired but if you leave during the hard times you're nothing more than a bandwagoner.

You don't. In fact, I recommend not doing that because this is entertainment, not a cult. Don't let the "real fan" business cloud the conversation. We're all here because sports are fun. And if it's not fun, no need to convince yourself otherwise.

I think the main thing I'll say regarding criticism is that the tone and cadence of it matters. If someone is critical of a move or a draft, that's not only acceptable, but it's welcome here. Without that kind of discussion, this is a fairly dull place. There's something to be said for the statisfaction of a healthy debate.

People think guys like @The Zetterberg Era and I are lockstep, and sometimes we are, but many times not. We differ on several takes, but what I love about this guy is that I always understand where he's coming from and he's respectful. That's healthy. And it's why even if I'm not on board with his analysis of every player, it always makes me circle back and go, "Hmm, maybe he has a point."

So let's focus on that for a bit. The "healthy" debate part.

I think where people grow weary of criticism is when it is both:
1) Relentless
2) Overconfident

Months to years of relentless critique coupled with an unwavering confidence makes for an exhausting discussion. It's difficult to reach understanding and common ground when there's this oppressive negative cloud hanging over every message.

It's also going to rub people wrong when they are enjoying something, having fun, and someone says, "Hey, actually, what you're enjoying sucks and you're a sheep for not seeing it sucks."

None of this is directed at you @jkutswings , you're the man, but your message provided me a good jumping off point for something I've been kicking around in my brain after the last few days and seeing all the back and forth here.

I hope in the coming days, after free agency settles, we can all start to have a bit more productive debates and respect various opinions without getting too tribalistic in our views. We're all Wings fans. We're all here because hockey is awesome. It's been a rough go for the Wings, and rough times are still ahead, but I'm choosing to be optimistic about the current prospects and future because honestly... it's just more fun for me. Others mileage may vary.

lol I owe nothing to this team. The team survives because the fans pay money for tickets, TV, and merchandise. A team that can't be bothered to put a watchable product on the ice is a team that doesn't deserve anyone's time.

If Nylander is at all available I’d go in guns blazing for him…he’s the best case of guys like Benson I was slamming the table for. Kid is very underrated and unappreciated in Toronto for what he brings. He’d instantly be our best player.
In the Leafs forum there have been a few suggestions that he will end up in Detroit. I don't know if that is just "Yzerman is a shrewd mofo" talk or what. I do think you would need to give up Ray and possibly a D-man, although they are looking for cap relief to go get a $7 mil d-man.

This vides was posted in their forum. The suggestion is 2 first round picks and a prospect so they have the cap space to sign Orlov for $7 million x 5 years.

Get it done Steve!

I suppose I don’t understand the “watchability” aspect. Even in 19-20 at the worst of it, we had games and plays which were sick as f***. I know I’m a weirdo. I also just don’t watch every game when they’re bad.

You're a Yotes fan? Why are you spending so much time in the Wings forum then?

Filip Forsberg, since Trotz is starting to tank.

These would be ideal including Debrincat. I would go after all 3 and see which one agrees first.

I know some here don't like Forsberg because of whatever reason, but. he. scores.

If that is really what it takes to get Nylander to Detroit, I would be elated. But I am sure it'll be more than that. If it isn't? We have 2 first rounders next year and they can choose ALJO/Sebrango/Viro/2023 D draft class.

Forsberg has 8.5 million AAV contract for the next 6 years I believe. Nashville would have to retain 25%-30% of salary for it to work.

Wait, if we aren't a cult, what did I spend that $685 on?

that's what you get for not reading the papers

that wasn't a spend, that was just you exchanging that cash for bench bucks which is just a wise investment

supply is very limited so it takes a while for the shipping

Would like to second this.

Guys, let's make the debates productive this summer. I know there's reason for pessimism, believe me. But, starting threads like "we suck and are doomed because our 7th round pick was terrible" is not productive. That's a little hyperbole, but you all get the gist. Framing things productively goes a long way in better debates and more fun for everyone.

Hoping to hear news involving any of the following realistic trade targets being available:

Nylander
Lindholm
Debrincat

(or an even bigger fish with no warning)

The quote about waiving Yamamoto was probably off, but the second I heard about limited cap space I thought we were set to sign someone to a long term deal that would limit our flexibility once Ray and Mo get new deals.

Nylander would be a great get, assuming Kasper and Danielson live up to expectations.

What would you realistically give up for Nylander or Debrincat because now I want to see one if these guys. Get us a legit top line scorer.

Compher, Ghost, Fabbri, and a 2nd.

Otherwise there's no f***ing room to add anyone.
We should have everybody put in a dollar, and the person with the closest guess to the actual lineup for the start of the regular season takes the pot.

I'm just not sure if anybody will win. At this rate, there might be another dozen new names before October 12. :dunno:

Why give anything when for the price if a decent contract you could have Bertuzzi?
