The Kuzy situation has been going on in Washington for a few years it feels like, I doubt many teams will pony up a ton for him.
I wonder if they’d take Fabbri+Neiderboch/Viro/McIsaac+conditional pick.
Kuzy is kind of purpose built right now for a contender. Makes too much sense for a team who needs one last push over the top.
He’s got 2x 7.8AAV, he’s 32 this season and is now on the decline and has always had motivation issues. He’s looking for a chance to win, probably a good market with a social scene (having watched him for nearly a decade in DC, and seeing him about town), not a ton of big responsibility - I.e be the leader of the team or help mentor young dudes etc.
Caps are in a weird spot where they want to ice a team for Ovi but are also in rebuild mode trying to work around the albatross contracts of the old core. The point of that is they want young talent on ELC or picks/prospects that will be something, or they want cap relief from some of the more difficult contracts (Mantha being top of that list)
We just aren’t good partners for them. Kuzy is too old for our core, and I’m pretty sure he’d be pretty disgruntled to go to DET. Caps would want high end prospects or picks, which we wouldn’t be willing to give up since we’re still in rebuild or they’d want us to take Mantha which we definitely aren’t doing.
Makes way too much more sense for a team like COL, CAR, SEA, etc to try to capitalize on a two year window to push for a cup.
