I think he had some type of major knee/hip issue last year so that makes me nervous. Not sure if he came back and was beaten out by the other guys or never fully recovered?

Should be ready for training camp
June 16, 2023
Thompson (lower body) is skating and expected to be at full health for the start of training camp, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson played only once after Feb. 9, stopping 37 shots in a 3-2 win over Calgary on March 23. He left the game in the third period versus the Flames and was unable to suit up for the rest of the regular season, or in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The rookie went 21-13-3 with a 2.65 GAA and .915 save percentage in 2022-23, and he was a viable Calder Trophy candidate before his injuries. Thompson is expected to vie for the No. 1 job with the Golden Knights during training camp.

Swayman is the goalie to go after.

Bruins can't fit him in, is gonna cost at least 4M.

Would be nice 1a/1b partner for Husso.
Korpisalo also be another option.

Yeah I wouldn't complain about Swayman or Thompson. But not sure Yzerman would do it with Husso playing relatively well and Cossa in the system.
I think Husso has the potential to be a top-10 starter. He had flashes last year before the team shit the bed. If Yzerman builds a decent team in front of him he will do well.

Too bad we didn't trade for Ross Colton. Have really liked him.

Maybe Yzerman could have offered 41-42-43, one of those.

And then Colorado did outbid with 37th overall.

He is MAYBE worth a late 2nd...I honestly figured he'd be traded for a 3rd rounder but maybe there was a bidding war.

I'd have offered a 2nd and a 3rd or Veleno and a 3rd. He'd be a great upgrade to the 3rd line center slot.

Yeah, but modern hockey is just more wearing for goalies. You need a dynamic duo. The years of Brodeur or Hasek playing 70 games are gone.

45-40 split, and go with the hot goalie at the playoffs.

It's insane how Vegas story went:

Lehner
Brossoit
Thompson
Quick (traded for depth)

And Adin Hill is the Cup winning goalie.

Our same kind of story at Wings case would have been a Cup run with John Lethemon.

Ross Colton may be listed as a C, but he played LF on the Nick Paul centered 3rd line every game in the playoffs. Never saw him at center. Not saying he can't play it.

I see all of Tampa's playoff games. My favorite team to watch.

I didn't watch Tampa that much this season but I liked what I saw from him. I could have sworn I saw him taking faceoffs though.

Oh, he may have, not discounting that. Just when they had everyone going, he's probably 5th or 6th on the center depth chart in Tampa.

All the Avalanche boosters are falling all over themselves with joy here, with the Colton pickup, but I don't see it.

I definitely disagree lol. In fact 37th overall is much higher than I thought. He is what he is, a 3rd line energy guy who pots 18ish goals a year. His cup winning goal seems to have inflated his value.

The reality still is that he if very effective per ice-time with his 18 goals per year. Not many guys completes that with 14min ice-time, without PP.

To be honest, I can't find any better energetic 3rd liner than Colton from the NHL. He is like Tkachuk lite. Everybody has to understand that Colton's role never will be 1st line minutes, but those kind of guys with lesser minutes, who accept the lesser minutes, are very valuable.

I want exactly that kind of guys to Red Wings future Bottom6.

Sounds like the Oilers will be letting Klim Kostin go. Get him as a Suter replacement.

If we didn't have Cossa in the pipeline, this would be the play for sure.

I guess Nashville has a ton of faith in Saros and wants to beef up another position?

it's probably related to all those rumors about them trying to move into the top 5

Saw this on the maple leafs board:

Friedman just said this on a radio hit in Edmonton.

"There was word the last couple days that it's not going great between the Leafs and Nylander".

630 CHED Oilers Now. His segment from today, about 9 minutes in

So, buckle up folks.

Maybe Nylander could be an option to after now?

I don't think we have what the leafs would want.
Have you seen their defense?

Olli Maatta would unironically be their clear cut #2.
