Hard if not impossible to predict what SY will do at the TDL. He hasn't forgotten the team is rebuilding. giving away only one valuable asset (late 1st) in the flood of veteran acquisitions. If the right guy at the right age is available, someone who makes the team better now and 5-7 years beyond that, he'll try to get him but so will several other teams.

I think SY stays on message, which starting in off-season has been this year's team is a playoff team not a rebuilding team that would be okay with not making playoffs because better days are ahead. No, it's actually not okay to think that way. Sticking with the roster so far, and adding Kane, has contributed to the confidence and self-belief they are playing with now. So I think it's unlikely he does anything at all with the 18 regular skaters but tries, like he did starting in off-season, to improve depth. That means better/more options in the pressbox in case of injury. Three suggestions:

1. Trade 4th Round Draft pick to Minnesota for pending UFA LW Brandon Duhaime
2. Trade Holl (25 percent retained) to Anaheim for pending UFA RD Ilya Lyubushkin
3. Call up LD Edvinsson

Duhaime is a tough-minded player with size (6-2, 200) and willing scrapper, but more reliable than Kostin and can add to PK group on 4th line in case of injury.

Lyubuskin is a much more physical RD than Holl (well, couldn't be less physical) and can actually win board battles, defend net front and block shots. Also PK depth. Trading Holl with $750K retained clears some Cap space and player logjam.

Edvinsson up for good, work into a few games and see where it goes from there. Return to GR if their playoffs last longer than Wings'.

Is it just me, or is this the deadest it's ever been heading up to the deadline?

We are only like 10 days out and it's just crickets. No rumors, no early movement. I'm kind of expecting the least movement we've ever seen in a deadline.
I think the playoff race hasnt really shaken out enough quite yet. Theres a lot of teams within strijing distance. Usually theres some more separation by this point

yes but there is no reason to buy him out during this season. We might as well trade him if we aren't going to use him before we have to buy him out over the summer if that is yzerman's intentions.

Nobody wants Klim, and it doesn't make sense to retain money since a buyout eliminates 2/3 of his salary. He's under 26 years old.

Klim has low hockey IQ, skates as bad as Svech, AHL level hands, and he likes to run over goalies for no reason then get decked by the opponent, lol.

When you're a wagon, like Red Wings are, you don't need anything. 😜

Seriously, the team chemistry is so good right now, not sure I want any move made. But like many, I trust Steve to make the right move, whatever that is.
Agreed. My wish would be for gudas type defenseman. Playoffs are not for the timid when rules get looser.

I'm excited to see some playoff hockey again.

Idk, if you make no moves and you're a playoff team you're telling your team you're Stanley cup ready or no moves signals you aren't good enough to add to.

Not much in-between when we're talking about playoffs/winning.

Doesn't got to be Hanifin/Guentzel but man, Yzerman's got to throw a bone to the guys. They're playing hard.

That's entirely a fan's perspective from a guy who's never played any team sports. Even pro athletes prefer to play with friends, that's why Kane signed with the Wings. As much as I rag on Copp, DBoss is probably happy to have him on the team.

As a fan, I'd like to see some toughness added, but I don't think the players are asking for additional talent when the team is playing lights out aside from the 2 games right after the all star break.

Names at rumours:

- LW/RW Pavel Buchnevich, 5.8M, 2 years left, 28-year old Marian Hossa -syled two-way elite forward
- LW Jake Guentzel, 6.0M, 1 year left, 29-year old Tyler Bertuzzi-styled elite netfront grinder
- LW Lawson Crouse, 4.3M 4 years left, 26-year old physical netfront power-forward. Bigger and stronger than Guentzel, not as skilled.

- LD Noah Hanifin, 4.95M for 1 year from UFA. 27-year old overall defenceman.
- RD Chris Tanev, 4.5M for 1 year, 34-year old defensive defenceman.
- RD Adam Larsson, 4.0M for 2-years, 31-year old defensive defeceman.

- G Juuse Saros, 5.0M for 2-years, 28-year old smallish goalie.
Would stay far away from Guentze and Buchnevich because of the contract situation. Crouse is super interesting though. That is exactly the type of player I want for Dylan's LW. Just a little more gabagool for the top6.

Don*t want Tanev cause of injury history and contract situation. Like Hanifin a lot but the contract as well as the trade is prob gonna be super pricey. Larsson I'm hearing for the first time. That makes sense. That should push Petry down a spot, which I'm all for.

We also have to start being mindful of the money here. Moose, Kane, Raymond and Mo alone are already 18mil at least.

Crouse is a slightly shorter right-handed Rasmussen that gets PP time.

Because he is good on the PP, Moose is not. Plus, Moose doesn't shoot at 15% regularly and doesn't hit as much as Crouse, who has better edge work and balance and therefore actually seperates ppl from the puck when he hits.. Not the patented Moose bear hug escort-the-opponent-into-the-boards-and-lose-the-puck-battle-anyway.

Forgot: Crouse actually fights from time to time and doesn't just stare

Crouse didn't score a PPG until he was 24, which is what Ras is now.

Fights are not a positive.

Who cares when?! He is better. That matters. And his other advantages make him a better top6 option than Moose.

When my captain gets cross-checked in the neck for example I want the option of violence, not the option of mean mugging.

Give Ras more than 10 seconds of PP time, I'm sure someone can figure out how to bounce a couple pucks off of him.

Ras has 2 fights over the last 2 seasons. Crouse has 3. My oh my what a frightening pugilist...
